That is not how it was explained to me.  One time I accidentally turned my points into free play on the machine by hitting a wrong button and was told because I did that was SOL.  Usually the shops close at 11, which is the stressful part.  They typically say to stop back the last night late.  So at 10 or so I do, and they do some sort of calculation, and say go spend x amount charge it to my room, come back with the receipt, and they take it off the bill. But it is hard to spend that much in a short period of time knowing that they are closing, at least for me.  It would be easier to just have charges to apply them against already on my account, we just never do.  It is always a lot more, several hundred dollars more, than what the free play amount is. Except for the time I turned it into free play in the middle of the cruise, amount was significantly less.

If you want maximum comps, talk to a host about your options before playing your points as Freeplay.

In the past I have on occasion played my points and received some additional comps.  However, I have learned my best comps are without converting to Freeplay.

I have been Ruby tier with CAS for many years. Talking to the hosts on board has always worked well for me.

it's a tradeoff. i typically shut my play down at the end of the gaming day, one day earlier... so i can have hosts do the calculation and then have a full day to explore the shops and make my purchases with monopoly money. pro tip: there is nothing to stop you from "window shopping" prior to the last day! i always have a pretty good idea of what i'm going to buy before i'm awarded my comp. additional pro tip: some people don't realize that the comp is a manual credit. after having shopped, you will need to visit a host once again to make sure they credit your folio. yet another pro tip: if you have additional nonrefundable OBC on your account, either from a tier benefit or from a travel agent or whatever, please understand that the host will not be able to give you the full credit of your comp until that amount is also consumed.

the main reason the hosts want you to consult with them after you have finished playing is that their final calculations often include a win/loss analysis. if you play after you settle your account, and you win, it may look like you were over-comped. if you want to continue to play after cashing out, do so without inserting your room key or player's card and only play machines at which there is no possibility of earning more than $1199. play under the radar. i sometimes play 25 cent video poker on the last day, for which the top prize is $1,000. on my last cruise, i did in fact hit for 1K on the last day!

My two biggest wins are actually on NCL, one of $1,100 (years ago) and the other $862 (last cruise)

Now I can revise this to my biggest 3 wins of my life are on cruise ships.  Earlier this month I won a progressive jackpot of $1,167 on an 88-cent bet.

Just piping-in:

The casino hosts on NCL are rather indifferent, like you are bothering them; and if you don't approach them (on the last day), you aren't getting anything wiped-off your folio or added in on-board credit for quick use (as the shops close that evening).

That said, the casino staff and pit bosses are excellent and mostly all engaging.

It used to be if you booked through CAS, any credits were automatically given by the staff the last night. I remember playing the last night and noticed my points were back to zero. Has this changed? I don't want to miss out.

Casino guests (CAS invited or not) are invited to cash in their points. The hosts have no idea when you are done playing, so normally would never touch your points (in case you wanted to use them for free play). And if you want them to recognize your play with additional comps, you need to talk with them. You also need to work with them if you want to covert your points to $250 or $500 CASNext certificates for future cruises.

Thank you. I will be sure to see one of the hosts on the last evening.
