Pent house butler?

Recommended Posts

We will be in a pent house suite on the Grandeur in April.  This will be the first time that we will have a butler.

Having been pleased with the room steward service on previous cruises, we are not sure what a butler would add.

Would anyone like to enlighten me as to what to expect?

Anything you want, from shining your shoes to delivering dinner course by course.  The Butler will deliver room service for you, will bring you canapés any night you want, will make additional dining reservations, cancel shore excursions if you decide you don't want to go,  keep your in room bar stocked, and about anything else you might want.  When we had 2 excursions in one port, with limited time to change from a water to a land excursion, we had our butler place sandwiches in our cabin so when we came back the the ship to change, lunch was there for us so we could eat while changing.  They'll take you laundry and return it.  Basically anything you can possible want done, the butler will handle.

Remember they love their jobs so use them. Don't feel like you're inconveniencing them.  If people don't use the butler, the position could be done away with.

Enjoy your cruise. Your butler can certainly add to the experience.

We did not use his services so that portion of the up-charge for penthouse was a waste of money although the cabin was great. A butler can do a lot for you - you just have to want it and use it.

We do make good use of the butler's services, and most have been very efficient and professional.  Our best butler serviced us in another line (Crystal pre-covid), but Regent's butler have been more than acceptable and we have duly appreciated their worth in our reviews.  Thank you, Regent!

On Grandeur there are 3 specialty restaurants. You can make a reservation for each of them before the cruise. If you want another reservation while onboard, you can ask your butler to make those reservations. Also, if you decide to eat dinner in your cabin with room service, your butler can arrange that, and will serve it to you in your cabin, course by course if that's what you want. They will also shine your shows, have a few items pressed on boarding, and even unpack and pack for you if you want that. We really haven't asked much of our butler in the past, but one time we asked him to look into the excursion we had already booked the next day since we would be off the ship that day, and he found out what we needed to know. If there's any way they can help you, they will.

We select our suite based on the ship, promotions and itinerary.  We love the Penthouse suites on the Splendor and Explorer, so we have a Butler on those ships (and will when we travel on Grandeur one day!).  On Navigator we stick with Concierge.  When we do have a butler, we utilize the services and enjoy getting to know them.  Our experience has been that he is always available, quick to respond, and gives us that little bit of pampering that we don't really need, but do enjoy.  We've had previous butlers stop us in the hallway to say hello.  Coffee/breakfast service, canapes, answering our many questions throughout the cruise, and the smiles that make you feel special.  Do we need a butler, no.  Do we enjoy it when our level of suite includes one?  Absolutely!
