Question about my grandaughter in an arm casting because a wrist fracture

My Family and I (wife,son,daughter in law,grandson and grandaughter 7) will board Icon of the Seas for the March 22,2024 sailing,my grandaughter

broke  her wrist and is on a arm cast. Does RCI policy allows her to be in the pools and hot tubs,and to ride in slides,her doctor says that with care 

is ok, she will use a waterproof cast cover that protects over the elbow

Not sure on policy but if she has a broken wrist I wouldn't go down slides as that may cause further damage. I don't think the cruise insurance would allow that. A quick search shows that people have been in RCI pools with water proof cast.

we had a similar situation with our 11 year old grandson.  He was allowed in the pool but not on the water slides.

She may already have a waterproof cast. When my son was that age and broke his wrist the upcharge was minimal, about $20. No issue re going in the pool. Have fun!

Random thoughts: 

- I wouldn't think Royal would care /pay any attention to her cast; I'd think that'd be a parental decision.  

- I agree with the above posters that slides might not be a great idea for her. 

- I wasn't aware that waterproof casts were available -- nor that the price difference would be so small.  Who'd ever not choose waterprooof, even for just showers at home?  Good information to tuck away for "just in case". 

- One little thing:  When my daughter broke her arm as a teen, she had trouble dressing.  I bought her two pair of old-lady jeans with elastic waists and slip-on shoes.  They were very useful for those weeks that she wore the cast.

Royal absolutely DOES care.  Our grandson was told that he was not allowed on any of the slides with a cast.

They don't even allow glasses or goggles on the slides, no way a cast will be allowed, as you experienced.

Years ago we ran into a similar situation.  My younger daughter had a fall which resulted in a concussion plus a cranial hemorrhage 3 weeks before our cruise.  She was cleared by the specialists to go on the cruise.  They strongly discouraged any water slides or active activities (basketball or soccer) and explained to her why.  She was 10 at the time.  She was not happy on the cruise as her brothers were having fun on the slides but I reminded her about how bad she felt when the accident happened and the hospital stay and I told her it's better safe than sorry.  We still had a lot of fun but there was no way my husband and I were going to risk anything just so she could go on a slide.

As an adult cruising in a monte with a crushed wrist, I plan to bring my waterproof cast.  I just hope to have this external fixator removed cause i feel like Frankestein. 

 

I can be poolside and on the beach but still will be careful for sure.
