OBC in the casino?

I have not sailed HA yet. We have a cruise coming up and I am wondering if you can use OBC in the casino? (We can on Princess)  Thank you.

If it’s OBC from HAL or CCL stock it is non refundable and cannot be used in the casino.  If it’s OBC that your TA gave you most times it is is refundable as is any OBC you buy or someone gifts you.  Refundable OBC can be used in the casino.

Thank you for your reply.

Say I have $300 non-refundable credit on my account and I go to the casino and put $300 onto my account, How do they keep track?

Basically, I am asking if I can cash out non-refundable credit in the casino.  It's been done on other cruiselines.

I am wondering if anyone has tried this?

People were successful with this in the past, but HAL has caught on to it.

When you board and look at your account, you will see two balances, total and non refundable. The non refundable is, for the most part, used first but any casino charges would be taken out of the refundable balance.

Thank you.  You really helped by explaining how it works. I really appreciate your help.

HAL definitely caught on and fixed their system  to prevent this. In the past, since charges are deducted from non-refundable OBC first, you could use OBC in the casino then cash that out. If you redeposited, it went under refundable OBC, which you could then either cash out or have credited to a CC.

In Dec 2023, my cabinmate tried to do it and it went back into non-refundable OBC. She had done it in May 2023, so the change happened sometime in that 7 months.

My recent experience with Princess shows it is no different there (Regal Princess, October 2024). It was different at one time. on both lines At one time few did it. Then it was talked about and many did it. Then they took it away.
