Cost of chairs on Grand Anse

Just back from our Caribbean Cruise and did our usual water taxi trip to Grand Anse Beach. Water taxi good value at $10 pp return. Shocked by the increased cost of loungers after being asked for $40 for 2 chairs and a parasol. We walked further down the beach and got a pair for $30 but even this made this beach the most expensive of the 2 week cruise. We also found the chair suppliers quite aggressive in their attitude and rude to some people. This was disappointing and may venture a little further to other beaches next year.

Sound like a good plan… My one suggest going over the hill to La Plywood… Shabby chic and ethnic….Where one’s custom would be greatly appreciated and truly valued.

Food and drinks very reasonably priced.

When look at menu prices, there are in ECD.  To roughly convert ECD into USD - Divide the ECD by 2 - Then deduct 20% = USD

We may avail ourselves of a private island tour and this beach is recommended for a beach break with lunch after. Looks like a large bay/beach, any recommendations on a spot to enjoy the beach, and also have a bite and a drink?

 

@PORT ROYAL, is the Morne Rouge beach where it looks Ike La Plywood is located also nice? Or is Grand Anse THE beach of choice for most visitors?

LP is on BBC Beach, which is at the northern point of Mourne Rouge.  And yes, the views are stunning.  Plus S.H.T. Never ventures that far.   One’s custom at LP will be greatly appreciated.

Grand Anse is not the place it was.  It’s now Babylon and getting more expensive as the years pass.   Some have posted also rudeness has increased.  The best place to eat on GA was Umbrellas, but to get a front row table on the balcony will now be a long wait.  Also, heard that the food quality has dropped.

GA is only considered THE place, because it’s cheap and easy to get there, either by ferry or cab.  Some even walk.

 

Because liquid sunshine may appear towards the end of the day, suggest purchasing cheap, pocket folded, plastic Ponchos, just in case

Is there a water taxi to BBC/Morne rouge beach ? Or how should we get there from the cruise pier ?

 

I think I would prefer that beach to Grande Anse.

No water taxi.. Take a Cab… The Cab controller’s kiosk is inside the covered cruise terminal. The fares are government controlled and published at the kiosk.  Work on about $20 per cab each way plus tip.  
Outward driver will be pleased to be booked for one’s timed return and will arrive early to put one’s mind at rest.

Recent Plywood update..

We originally asked to go to La Plywood.   Taxi dropped us off right next door at kalingo.   We rented chairs.  No need for umbrella as plenty of trees.  We purchased a couple of drinks while there.  A lot cheaper than all inclusive.   Taxi was $16 each way.  We arranged for our driver to pick us up also.  BTW, looking over at La Playa it looked pretty rundown   

Thank you so much for this valuable update…. Will now make others aware of the poor state of Plywood, so they make the right and informed choice.
