Christmas and New Years Cruise

We have booked for ‘25

 

We went this December and there was a dinner with crackers that’s we missed. A Christmas jumper day. A panto and then a Christmas song tribute band. 
 

What is it going to be like on actual Christmas Day. 
How have people managed with young kids with Santa and stockings. Elf on the shelf and Christmas Eve boxes. 
Also we never go out on New Years so nothing to compare it to.

We took our stocking as usual and hung them on magnetic hooks on the cabin wall, father christmas also bought us a couple of little presents and the rest he left under the tree at home.

I didn't bother with a christmas eve box we were too busy having fun on a beach and we don't do elf on the shelf.

We did take a few decorations to put up in the cabin and decorate our cabin door.

We just relaxed during the day and got ready for dinner early as we had a time to meet Father Christmas in the atrium and the queue was really long. Everyone is allocated a dining room and a time to have dinner on Christmas day.

we are in Lisbon on Christmas Eve so can’t imagine being on a beach that day as it will be too cold. We only really have done the Xmas market as Lisbon

Yes it will be chilly in Lisbon, we just got wrapped up and went for a walk, had some nice food, looked in the shops and bought some Christmas decorations from a lovely shop.

We honestly didn't miss any of the usual Christmas stuff because we were experiencing new places and the ship has lots to do.

We have done many Christmas and NY cruises on P&O. Be aware that usually (but not every time), the ship will be at sea on Christmas Day so no lying on beaches!! We always took decorations for the cabin and there is a festive atmosphere on the ship. We have done the NYE on deck till the small hours until a few years ago when we couldn’t be bothered (something about old age!!!). No more of these cruises for us though as we have got fed up with the travelling and flight delays. I am sure you will enjoy……..

Father Christmas appeared up by the funnel on Christmas Eve just before we left the port. I guess he couldn't do it at sea it would have been a bit hot up there. He then came down with his elves and joined in the sailaway

We were told there were about 300 children less on board than we had in the summer.

Thank you.  We are trying to decide whether to go away for Christmas next year because for the last few years we seem to have been visiting family rather than staying in by ourselves and we both feel that we don't want to be doing round trips of about 80 miles to go to family get togethers when it is cold possibly snowing or icy. 

We have already warned DH's sister that we will be staying at home on Christmas day this year and she is not happy.

That will depend on the ship - obviously not on the adult only ships

We've done the last 2 years on Iona, there are a lot of families but it is very mixed. We're a late 60s couple and enjoy it.
