CHOPPERTESTER Posted April 22 #276 Share Posted April 22 (edited) Great blog Laurieal ! Lurking on this post as we are doing the Westbound OTS in Oct with our 35 ish son (manual chair). You were pretty brave at Disney. He thought Slinky Dog was pretty extreme. I'll see if he has any questions for you. We're doing Paris, Lucerne, Venice & Barcelona pre-cruise. Planes, trains & automobiles it is. Edited April 22 by CHOPPERTESTER
Rare laurieal Posted April 22 Author #277 Share Posted April 22 I took my lunch up to deck 16 to get a good view of the upcoming officers vs guests pool volleyball match. From my viewpoint, I could see the volleyball game very well. I could also see loads of people down on deck 15 enjoying some soft serve. I had to make my way down and have some. After that, I made my way to the theatre using the Promenade as a way to cross the ship. I wanted to swing by Sorrento’s and see if they had some small bites as well as pizza. On the Wonder and Anthem, they used to have things like olives and prosciutto and cheese. I developper a bit of an obsession with the spicy cheese on Wonder. I didn’t see anything like that on Oasis, but perhaps it’s because I wasn’t there during peak meal time the two times I checked.

I’ll be happy to answer any questions or look things up for you if it can help plan for your trip. Sounds like some very fun pre-cruise plans! And once the Europe part is done you’ll have loads of sea days and some extra hours of sleep to rest and recuperate.
Rare laurieal Posted April 22 Author #279 Share Posted April 22 (edited) I arrived early for the Liars’ Club game show. They were having an auction for The Make-A-Wish Foundation. They were auctioning the following: a VIP pass for shows, a VIP pass for the zipline, a pickleball clinic for two, a Flowrider lesson, dinners at specialty restaurants for two, a Bingo package with cards and a t-shirt, 100 digital photos and an All-Access Tour for two. After the auction, it was time for Liars’ Club. I had seen this show before on the Wonder with the cruise director, the two comedians and the comedy juggler. This time, it was four members of the crew For anyone who was at the show: HURRAY! It was a fun show, and I’m not going to compare it to the show that had professional comedians in it, but I will say I think it works better as an evening show. I had a good laugh before the show even started. A woman approached me and said she was following me. Of course, I thought she meant Cruise Critic, but no! We’re talking actual stalking, here. You know how there’s always that one person on the cruise that you see everywhere? I’m that person for her 😂 I’m back in the room now and I can really feel the ship moving. I’m having a bit of a rest and some light unpacking and getting ready for an evening of classic cruise fun. Shows! Food! Cocktails! OBX-Cruisers Posted April 22 #280 Share Posted April 22 I saw on the daily paper that the Oasis is hosting the "Nations Scavenger Hunt". NOW I am really really wanting to be on your cruise. We did this on one of the Royal cruises and it was the best thing we ever did on a cruise. The cruise members themselves love it and they help you out finding other cruise members from countries that you need often telling you where to go to find a member from a particular island, country etc. PS: Watch for the crew who look like they work in the engine room if/when you need Romania.
Rare laurieal Posted April 22 Author #281 Share Posted April 22 It is formal night and I am out and about all fancy. And by fancy I mean I’m wearing my formal sneakers (they’re black), the darkest jeans I own and a top with no Disney characters on it. The promenade is also looking fancy. But I fear I may be at a ventriloquist show! I usually avoid those and the app didn’t mention any dolls. But here I am in the theatre looking at a slideshow of dolls. I do have a cosmo, so let’s see how this goes. 7
Rare Dolby1000 Posted April 23 #282 Share Posted April 23 I'm so enjoying your reports! Mostly, I lurk about here on Cruise Critic but then I saw Ronn Lucas on your entertainment guide and I had to comment. We saw Ronn in Las Vegas years ago and loved every minute (i enjoy ventriloquists). Quite envious for your show. If you stayed, can you tell me if Scorch (a green dragon) is still part of his show? Thank you Keep posting, I almost feel as if we are all with you. I take inspiration from your travels. Dolby1000
Rare laurieal Posted April 23 Author #283 Share Posted April 23 Fiiiiiiine. I loved the ventriloquist 😂 His show was absolutely amazing. I don’t have a lot of experience with ventriloquists, so my opinion means very little, but I thought he was incredibly talented. I will for sure go and see his upcoming matinée show if I can. I wasn’t expecting to cry during a comedy show, but I lost it a little bit when he told us about his grandfather and how he used to make puppets talk for him. Those of you who followed my adventures in Alaska may remember that my grandfather passed away last year when I was in Vancouver. Then, we lost my grandmother early this year, so I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a little sensitive in the grandparent department. Based on the cruising demographic, I’m going to assume there are a few grandparents reading this thread. What you do with your grandkids matters so much, even if it seems little, like making a puppet out of a sock, or pulling them around on a sled in the backyard or baking gingerbread people. Shoutout to all the awesome grandparents on this thread. And now I’m going to go think of something else because I don’t want to be known as “that lady who cried in her soup” here at 150 Central Park. 16

Loved every minute, too. We saw the green dragon in his intro video, but he wasn’t part of the show. I think he had Willy with him, but I’m not 100% sure of the name. I just posted a picture of him.
Rare laurieal Posted April 23 Author #285 Share Posted April 23 Central Park looked lovely, tonight, although a bit wet so I’m guessing it rained a little while I was indoors. Dinner tonight was at 150 Central Park. The plan was to use tonight as the first night of my Diamond Plus BOGO and then complete the BOGO offer tomorrow at Chops. After two years, I was reunited with my favourite bread. Things got a bit intimate at my table as I delicately tore into it 👀 I had the Roasted Spiced Pumpkin Bisque for my appetizer. It’s the same thing I had last time, but it was so delicious that I had to get it again. I promise I’ll try something new when I return in a few days. For my entrée, I had the Roasted Tenderloin of Beef. They can do it for just one person, but it doesn’t come with table side theatre. I was very fine with that. It was incredibly tender and cooked to perfection (barely). The truffle mashed potatoes were also a big hit for me. I would get this again without hesitation. For dessert, I had the Peanut Butter Chocolate Tart. Now that I’m looking at the menu, I realize that it should have come with some black currant sorbet, which would have helped cut the sweetness a bit. Still, it was delicious, I just wish it came with more of the little fruity circle things (or some sorbet). 150 Central Park did not disappoint and I’m excited to return and try all new things. After dinner, I had a chocolate martini at the Treillis Bar. I didn’t think to take a picture because I was too busy dealing with the elements. It’s really windy tonight, y’all! If you want pictures of chocolate martinis, I invite you to check out my Alaska review where I drank about 50 of them. 7
Rare laurieal Posted April 23 Author #286 Share Posted April 23 I’m currently sitting at the Aqua Theatre, but my secret source (aka a guy I just met) told me it’s probably going to be cancelled. It’s so windy that I kind of hope they do. While I wait, here are some pictures of the Boardwalk.
Rare laurieal Posted April 23 Author #287 Share Posted April 23 It’s been called: Aqua Show is cancelled and our reservations will be transferred to tomorrow night. They were communicating with the bridge for a while, trying to find better weather, but in the end it wasn’t meant to be. I cannot imagine how much time all that manoeuvring will cost us in the race across the Atlantic. Boleros was really hopping and I was tempted to stop for a little bit, but I am all out of energy and Diamond vouchers. I’ll see you tomorrow! Pet update: I am a towel dog owner, now.

Rare laurieal Posted April 23 Author #292 Share Posted April 23 Good morning! I am very grateful for my two functioning brakes this morning. We are moving and we are grooving. I woke up startled early this morning when my sliding cabinet doors started opening and banging on their own, and I must ask: sliding doors? On a ship? I ended up stuffing a pillow in there, which solved the problem, but I couldn’t go back to sleep and watched The Office while being rocked by the ocean. But now I’m up and ready to start the day! And I know which end of the ship I’m staying in, now, so I’m feeling pretty optimistic about things.
Rare laurieal Posted April 23 Author #293 Share Posted April 23 Because they are holding the Crown and Anchor Top Tier event in the Aqua Theatre this morning, I decided to have breakfast at Johnny Rockets. The place is packed, so clearly I’m not the only one who came up with that brilliant plan. Still, I arrived at just the right time and I was able to get a table immediately. I got the Cheesy Bacon Lovers. I remember liking it more on the Wonder. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, except maybe I would have liked more potatoes. I just wasn’t wowed by it.

Rare laurieal Posted April 23 Author #295 Share Posted April 23 After breakfast was the Crown & Anchor Top Tier event. People started lining up early. The line went all the way around the carousel. There was a band there to liven up the Boardwalk. The Aqua Theatre ended up being full. It’s not surprising when we take a look at the numbers for our cruise. They had someone from the Aqua Show doing an acrobatic demonstration. I really can’t wait to see that show! It started raining, and suddenly the theatre started emptying. I left before the end, too, because I wanted to watch the Enrichment Lecture about how ships navigate. 6
wolfganghowell Posted April 23 #296 Share Posted April 23 Absolutely loving your review - thank you for taking us along. The Disney portion was a real treat - been 10 years and it brought back memories of the happiest place on earth!
Rare laurieal Posted April 23 Author #297 Share Posted April 23 (edited) The Enrichment Lecture was interesting again, today. But afterwards, I wanted two things: to finish my book and (to finish) a doughnut. So I went up to deck 16 where I got a doughnut from the Windjammer. Then, I got a Peach Daiquiri from the Lime & Coconut (not on the list, I know, but it was right there). I found a sunny spot and started reading. I had the best view in the world. Now, I have finished my book and it’s a bit early to return to my stateroom to shower and get ready for dinner. To pass the time before I decide which book I’m going to start next, I’m in the Aqua Theatre for the Sexiest Man Competition. It was absolute madness on the Boardwalk with popcorn and cotton candy and hula hoops flying everywhere. Families seemed to be having a great time and I didn’t run into anyone. Success! I don’t think I’ve seen the Sexy Man thing since before the pandemic. Not sure what criteria they use these days. If it were me deciding, it would be cooking, puns, and good use of punctuation. Will report back later. Edited April 23 by laurieal 11

Rare laurieal Posted April 23 Author #299 Share Posted April 23 They ended up going with a more…traditional approach to the Sexy Man thing. No puns were involved at all. I found a seagull friend! During the show, we had our first time change. I know they do those differently depending on the ship, but it has always been the same for me for eastbound TAs. At 14:00, we had to set our clocks forward and suddenly it was 15:00. It was way too much sexiness all at once for this lady, so I returned to my stateroom for a little rest before dinner. I will mention one thing I don’t like about my stateroom. In order to reach it, I have to pass in front of the spa/fitness center. I do not appreciate the reminder that some people are living healthy cruise lives and are exercising. It’s just like Disney World. We were there during a race event and I would run into people jogging or stretching all over the place. No, thank you. I had a surprise waiting for me in my stateroom. Last time I received something like that, it was hiding a banana. I opened it with trepidation only to find that the only fruit in there was a chocolate covered strawberry. Excellent.
