What's Royal's motivation to make a deal with you?  They have your money.  They have you over a barrel ... if you cancel, they get to keep your deposit, and someone else will snap up that room at the higher price.  

No, I wouldn't waste a phone call on this idea.

Oh, yes.  We're retired, so we don't have to concern ourselves with work any more, but being away from home does cost money ... for example, our dog kennel is $48/night, which certainly adds up for two weeks.

I try not to cancel a cruise, but move the booking id and deposit over to the new cruise.  Sometimes they charge me the $100 change fee, but sometimes not.  

 

Cancellation (before final payment date), involves a lot more steps, while moving the booking over to a new ship and date is pretty quick.
