Entertainment on the Sun

Recommended Posts

The Dome has 3 different Cirque shows, twice a night respectively. And only the one time per show per sailing. Ie, 7 night sailing, 3 nights have one of the Cirque shows 2 times in the Dome.

Arena has 2 of the promised 4 production shows, twice a night the night they go, plus the full compliment of guest entertainers.. something in the Arena every night...

O'Malley's has live Duo.

Crooners has the pianist.

Atrium has lots of activities

Princess Live has different activities.

And so on

Everything is open except Park 19 activities.  There's some seating a s some games like Cornhole and such available there but the ropes course, slides, roll glider thingy, etc still not open.

Wow thought there was supposed to be crique type shows? And thanks for your reply!

The Dome shows are Cirque - "Art Beat" played last night according to the Patter posted on the Live From for yesterday here.  They had launched the production shows for Vallora and Fiera in the Arena so not sure why they haven't been playing recently.

Are all the new venues and shows up and running on the Sun?

I'm on the Ship right now.

There does appear to be shows running everywhere.....but getting to them is another matter entirely.

Princess Live....Explorers Lounge on other ships.....is so small hardly anyone there....which affects the atmosphere. Plus there are two great big pillars in the middle of the room blocking the stage.

It's a terrible design.....awful room and lacks atmosphere.

There's no chance getting to see the show in the Dome so not able to comment. And I haven't been anywhere else as only been on two days.

All in all.....the entertainment is dire.

Ouch - thanks for the update. If the dome shows seat just a few how do you get in? Also thanks for your input.

The dome seats 250 people for a ship of 4000+, you have to get there an hour before the 30min show. Most of the entertainment has been in the Piazza in the form of bands, singers and games. If your on the 3rd floor above you cannot see most of the floor below. They did announce the first production show will be tonight, so no there have not been any so far.

O'Malleys is small, maybe 100 person capacity. Same with Princess live and the comedy shows, very limited seating for a ship of 4000+ passengers.

We will not be sailing on the Sun ever again.

Thank you so much for your reply - very disappointing to hear. Ugh 🙁

And don’t expect the music in O’Malleys to be the typical sing along style. It’s not. Spent many nights in an Irish bar in Boston so I know them all. Was SO excited to spend some time there. It was so disappointing. And the sound system is so bad you can hardly hear what they are singing.

Sailed on Sun 8-27April… Princess Live was always hopping with Comedy Acts, Trivia, Karaoke, Bingo, Destination Talks, etc. We headed there about 30 minutes before the Comedy Acts and a couple times was hard to get seats as there was already something going on; once that concluded, we could usually find a seat, but filled up quickly. Saw a couple Cirque shows in the Piazza - they last about 20 minutes so wouldn’t queue up to see one in the Dome. Dome has singers, violinists, bands, etc later on most afternoons. Saw Valora, the Pirate production show in The Arena. We got there about 30 minutes before show time and easily got a seat. Liked the ‘horseshoe seating set up’ for this show; the stage extended into the audience and part of it revolved and raised and lowered and it lasted about 45 minutes.

Crooner’s Bar area had entertainment which we enjoyed before heading to dinner - piano player, singing duo, The Cats Violinists (very talented! gals). Really enjoyed the band Xcite; they were regulars in the Piazza and on Lido deck some afternoons. There was a DJ on deck at given times and every night after the main entertainment in the Piazza, a DJ played until 1-2am for dancing (there is no designated Disco venue on board). O’Malleys has entertainment each night and it was always jam packed (so much so that we didn’t have chance to eat there!).

The entertainment suited our needs and understand there will be more offered in the Dome and Arena on upcoming cruises. Happily we are headed back to the Sun Princess 1-21June, just a few days wait left! Looking forward to experiencing any progress since April.

Our experience…

Exactly the same for us, it depends on what entertainment on a cruise means for you. We don't usually do production shows so, when were on in early April, we loved the music around the ship and the Princess Live/Piazza offerings.  We're booked to go on her again in September.

We finally got into the dome to watch a Cirque show. Got in line at 9:15 for a 10:15 show. They have zero reserved handicap seats. Watched a lady come in with a scooter, she was then told to take the scooter back to the entrance, she came back with a cane and then they still did not have a seat for her. Her and her husband are sitting in the middle of the entrance way 20 feet back from the middle entrance to the dome. Extremely poor planning for Princess.

It's a real shame that they designed a ship with such a large capacity & not take into account people not being able to attend their shows without an hour wait.

It'll probable be our first and last time for the Sun.... and never for the Star when it's sailing.
