Upgrade Fairy Visited the Oosterdam

Be careful what you wish for on the Oosterdam. Their Nightclub with loud, pounding music is in the middle of the ship. The sound rises up two floors and is quite noticeable Some people know this and do not book cabins over this area.

We had a cabin in the bow of the Zuiderdam (4011), just over the show lounge. We got to hear all of the shows TWICE, once while we were at the early show and again after we retired to our stateroom. :D

Really?

Never heard of that - which stateroom did you have where you heard the music?

Fortunately for our OP, all VE's are 3 up, midship on Deck 5

We had a similar problem on the Volendam this past March. We were over the dining room and got the baked alaska parade twice. One morning at 1AM we were treated to a piano through the PA system. We also heard the maitre'd's pep talk to the wait staff prior to opening.

I can't believe that HAL is unaware of the problem. A couple thousand dollars worth of insulation would likely fix it.

We were on the upper prominade deck right above the Nightclub two decks down. We first heard music and that loud "bass" around midnight the first night. It kept us up until 3:00AM. The next night at 12:30PM we called the front desk to complain. They sent a security team up to verify what I said. It was so loud you could hear the words of the songs. They agreed. They said they would turn it down. I called agoin at 1:30AM. This time theyd ent a guy from the Nightclub. He confirmed it as well. They all played dumb. Like we were the first passengers to ever notice this. They moved us to a new cabin the next day. Holland America is one of the few cruise lines who put their Disco/Nightclub in the middle of the ship.
