Can anyone share prior experiences with Milburn Dumas?

 

One Player that is not listed here is Dana Barnes, who we had on the Triumph a few years ago.

Was the most enjoyable Piano Bar experience in all our cruises! Sad to not see him listed.

Hi all,

 

I know that this is a Carnival thread, but I just got back from a 7 day western Caribbean cruise on the “Rockwall of the Seas”… “Flowrider of the Seas” cruise… (Forgive me John for I have sinned…) and I wanted to mention the piano bar there.

 

The guy there was skilled and sang reasonably well. It was pleasant to sit there for a bit and listen to his music. But it was a different kind of place. Certainly not an audience participation place… and certainly not a Ron Pass, Roger Conception, or Lauri Gardner rock the boat kind of place. And certainly not a place where I was going to order a frozen concoction to help me hang on.

 

When we pulled into Cozumel we parked right across from the Carnival Valor. This was our last stop. That meant two more nights on board without a “good” piano bar. It was the Valor’s last stop too. I wanted stow-away in the Valor’s piano bar, but I couldn’t think of a good way. So it was two more nights of early to bed and no “boat drinks” for me.

 

Are you listening Carnival? I know you are… so keep the piano bars rockin' and the “boat drinks” ready.

Steelerjen... Milby is a great entertainer. I have been on the Conquest twice when her was on there. The first time was great and the second time not so great. Maybe the second time was cause of the crowd???? Not really sure?

We had the misfortune of sailing with him twice.

 

He is an excellent piano player but has no clue how to do a piano bar.

 

Plays what he wants and eventually everyone leaves out of boredom.

 

Some nights just him and the bar waitress.

 

This was the first time we saw him.

 

Second time last year we decided to give him a second chance. Was even worse.

 

What I do not understand is why nobody tells him he either entertain the passengers or find a new line of work.

I think Milby is a matter of taste, expectations and dependent on the crowd he draws. I had a friend that got back from sailing the Dream with him and she said: "I was disappointed with the piano bar. He played the same songs and when we tried a request we were ignored. I saw your photos and was ready for a good time."

 

(the photos she was referring to were from the infamous BC4 piano bar with Ron Pass)

 

He does get good reviews too like love2sale. So like I always say, don't take others words for it, check it out for yourself. And try not to judge by the first night only!
