RCI - Rome on your own - Drop off point

Recommended Posts

Hi, does anyone know where the drop off and pick up points are for the RCI Rome on your Own Tour? and approx. how long you have on your own. It's a 9 1/2 hour tour, so I'm thinking it's at least 6 hours.

Thanks

Brilliance drop-off point was at an underground carpark just along from St Peters. We were then escorted a short way on foot to a local store which was designated the pick-up point
Can't remember times, but I think it was about 6 hours free time

Did the Rome on your own a week ago on Splendor of the Sea. The drop off point was two blocks from St. Peters and you will have to be back in front of the shop where the tour orginates by 4:00. I think we had about 5 hours. This was my first trip to Rome and I was very impressed. We had the chance to see the Pope but went out touring on our own. Saw the Panethon, the Colliseum, and Circus Maximus.
Another tour that we did that was very impressive was Les Baux de Provence. That tour I would classify as very picturest. Tim and Cathy

I am interested in this answer also. We are on Celebrity and I was told that the bus would drop us off at People's Square which is close to the Spanish Steps. Anyone know? We are meeting a guide close to that point.

Anyone that has spent some time in Rome...do you know if it's feasible to start at the Piazza Navona, then the Pantheon, head to Trevi Fountain, check out the Coliseum and the Forum and then head back to St. Peters for an hour or so. All in 5 - 6 hours on your own? Looking at maps and distances this looks fine... but distances on maps can be deceiving.

Thanks

OK folks here is what Cathy and I did. The ride from port to Rome was much more interesting than the ride from port to Florence. Since our tour was on a Wednesday we were told on the bus that if we wanted to see the Pope he comes out on the square (St. Peters) every Wednesday. We elected to stay away from the crowds so with a good map headed for the Panethon. It was alittle tricky to find but after some close manuvering we found it. From there we headed up to the area where the militay and parliment building were. Since it was a militay holiday alot of the armed forces were in the area and the streets were blocked for a military parade. Anyway we got real close to the collisum and did lunch at a side walk cafe. There was a fly over by the Italian Air Force and once that happened the crowd dispersed. Once we made our way back to the collisum there was all kinds of different ruins in the area to see. We made our way down to Circus Maximus and headed over to the river. I knew walking back up the river would take us back to St. Peters. By the way the river walk was really nice what I call green and very European. Once we made it back to St. Peters we toured the square for about 30 minutes and then made it back to our drop off area two blocks from St. Peters. Not bad for the first time in Rome. I talked to someone else who made it to the Panethon and asked if they had any problem finding it. They said it was easy from St. Peters. It only cost them 6 euros for the cab ride. If you get frustrated you can alway catch a cab and pay a small fee. We were given a map with the location of the drop off point. We were told if we were lost to get a cab and show the driver the map location that would be the best means of returning to the drop off point if lost.
I think the best thing to do is take a good look at a map of Rome and decide the direction you want to go if dropped off at St. Peters. You can see alot but you can't see everything. Have fun, we sure did. Tim and Cathy

Hi everyone,
This is what we did.
The coach dropped us off just by Peoples square. We walked down to the metro (about 200 yards) and caught the metro 1 stop to St Peters.
We went into the Sistine chapel and spent quite a bit of time looking around. We were quite surprised that there was no queue and there is an awfull lot to see.
We then came out and walked back to the metro and travelled towards the Trevi fountain (chnging lines on the way, there are only two routes on the metro) where we had some lunch. We then walked to the Panthenon and then the Spanish steps and then back to the coach.
You do need a good map with the metro stations shown.

We were in Rome in 2000 on X Millenium, we did Rome on our own and were bused to a shop just outside of st. peters. We did the Vatican museum about 2 hours(Cistine chapel) and then we walked to the Pantheon, the Coliseum and the Forum, and finally walked to the Trevi Fountain before walking back to the shop to catch the bus back to the ship. We had about 6 hours and we didn't eat lunch, just ate a slice of pizza from the little carts all over town. It was a nonstop walk, and very tiring, but very doable if you are in good shape. Our group ranged from 42 to 55 in age all in good shape. I love Rome and we are going back for a few days on a land trip this fall.

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to see. And I hate travelling in Groups. I was interested in "A walk in Renaissance Rome" but it didn't include the Col. or the Forum and I couldn't see missing both.

We walk a lot at home so I'm not too worried about that and I figure if we're exhausted by the time we hit the Forum, we'll just get a cab back to St. Peters.
