sullaRaffaello Posted February 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2007 Does anybody have any experience with this? I had booked a cabin for two on the Queen Mary 2 transatlantic for April in the Queen's Grill. The travel agent informed me that there would be a $150 per person on board credit. My travelling companion cancelled before final payment. I knew that I would not receive any reduction, since, at that grade, a single pays for the other person, whether they are there or not. I presumed that my onboard credit would continue to be $300 for the cabin since I am paying for the equivalent of two people. When I attempted to ascertain this from my travel agent, she said that the credit would only be $150, since it is "per person". This was confirmed by Cunard when I called them. This seems to be incredibly chiseling on the part of Cunard to use the literality of words to snag an extra 150 bucks when they're already getting close to $8000. Do all the lines do this? kitty9 Posted February 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2007 From my experience on most of the cruise lines out there, they all do this.
Rare Roz Posted February 18, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2007 It can vary between lines. I'm going on a CC group cruise on Carnival. We're getting $100 per cabin in shipboard credit and $50 in casino chips. I thought since I was in a solo cabin I would get half of that, but I'm getting it all. Yippee! On my HAL cruise last November (another solo), there were 4 (!) bottles of wine (compliments of TA) in my cabin. They were running a special, each person got 2 bottles, but they gave me double. Only 1 free dinner dinner in the Pinnacle, and 1 free photo. A lady I work with is quite large. She has to buy 2 tickets on SW when she flies, but they won't give her double Rewards credits. I don't think that's fair (or should I say "fare" :D ). She insists on 2 packs of peanuts and 2 drinks. LOL! Roz

sullaRaffaello Posted March 16, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted March 16, 2007 As a follow up, I sent a letter to Carol Marlow, President of Cunard, explaining the situation, and my reasoning. Several days later, I received a voice mail from someone in customer services saying basically, "Yes we understand your point, but no you're only getting $150." Absurdity. claud925 Posted March 16, 2007 #6 Share Posted March 16, 2007 Make sure the cruise line is not charging you for your companion's port fees or taxes . . . as a solo you need only pay your own. This is the one (and only) time that the term "per person" and not per cabin will work in your favor.
