Has anyone ever set up a party for your CC Board mates on board? Sailing Princess in April and would like to set up a little come and go/meet and greet party for our board members. CC has a partnership with RCL/Celebrity that let's them hosts parties, but just wondering if anyone has worked with Princess to try to set something up, even with a no host bar??
I am in the process of setting up a CC meet and greet on our Mexican Riveria Cruise April 23 on the Dawn. You have to contact Princess direct and ask for the events coordinator for your ship. CC meets of 15 or more guests can be set up prior to embarkation through the events coordinator any CC meets with less than 15 people have to be arranged on board.
I was told it would be a no host bar but no other details yet as we do not have the required number of people for them to set things up yet. The phone line people have no idea what a meet and greet is and the one i spoke to sounded horrified that i wanted to "Critique" their cruise line when i said its for cruise critics lol. Finally she put me through to the events coordinator who it turned out was the right person to talk to. Hope this helps.

Actually Barry had posted the emails for all the onboard coordinators. They have changed a bit, but I wrote to the one listed and the lady that took his place wrote me back. She has been wonderful to work with. Group size was never discussed, although I am conservatively estimating 60+ now. Additionally she forwarded an email for me to the CD of our cruise that has responded to all my requests in the affirmative and will have his assistant CD at our party. They are supplying nuts and chips, I sprang for some appetizers and we will have a no host bar. Thanks for your response, hope this one helps you too.

Send them an email telling them what you'd like to do. They make contact with shipboard personnel for arrangements. On our cruise, leaving tomorrow, we have a meet & greet arranged at Skywalkers lounge. Princess will have a no host bar and some snacks. I've arranged for some appetizers (you pay for those) the coordinator can mail you the list, I might have included it earlier in this thread. Berda, our coordinator forwarded my email about the CD hosting a game we're going to have to him and he has assigned the assistant CD to be at our little party. They are going to supply some promo items for the games. I've also arranged, through Berda, a private slot machine tournament for our group. Princess will host it, but if you want prizes, it's up to you. We're going to charge everyone $10 to enter and they split it 70% to winner, 20 to 2nd and 10% to third. Again, Princess is including some promo items, t-shirts and stuff. Good luck and have fun.

Just an update to what Bo'sun Hank posted: I recently scheduled a CC Meet and Greet for our upcoming Star Princess Transatlantic cruise and the coordinator for that Star has changed. The new contact for the Star is Berda Davis:

Our Roll Call members for the Grand Princess sailing to the Norwegian Fjords on 16th July plan to meet on the first sea day (17th).

I sent an e-mail to the current CD on Grand (James Ibrahim) and within a couple of hours I had a reply saying that he had made arrangements for our group to have use of the Wheelhouse Bar at midday for our meeting. Unfortunately we will not get to say Hi! to James and thank him personally as he is transferring to another ship but he has assured me that the CD for our sailing, Billy London, will be made fully aware of the arrangements made. Nearer to sailing I will e-mail to request that a reminder be put in the Daily Patter and just to confirm all is still OK.

We have not requested anything special to be laid on for our group - just wanted somewhere to meet up. I expect that if you ask for specific services with drinks and nibbles you would be asked to pay for these. Having said that on our Baltic Cruise -CD John Lawrence - we were treated to champagne on arrival and some nibbles and John and his charming wife came along to welcome us and give us lots of useful information about the trip.

I e-mailed grandprincess@princesscruises.com and marked it for the attention of the Cruise Director. I guess you could substitute the words grandprincess for any other of the ships you may be travelling on. Give this link a try - hope you will be as lucky as us.

Billy was the CD on our cruise last week. He had Leah work with us and we had a great time. I had bought 5 dozen little rubber duckies to take with us and numbered them. I also ordered enough appetizers for about 30 people (45 showed up and Princess added some trays on their own) for our meet and greet. Princess gave us about 2 dozen prizes for drawings, including a case of champagne. We also kicked off our "most adventureous duck" contest. Everyone was taking their duck with them and getting photos to enter in our contest that ended on our 2nd sea day. Princess again brought champagne for prizes. We had also arranged a slot tournament, we collected $10 from each entry and split the money as 70% for 1st, 20% for 2nd and 10% for 3rd. Stewart, our casino host gave each of the 4 finalists a bag, a t-shirt, a key chain and a deck of cards.

The key is to NOT ask for the moon and to let them know WELL in advance what you are planning and then be flexible working with them.

Sorry that Carnival has bad appetizers, Princess has wonderful appetizers.
earlier in this post I included the price list for bars and appetizers for Princess.

smooth sailings,

Hank OUT

I appreciate your providing an eMail address that can get you to the CD.

We just got back from a TA on the Westerdam, and the shore based contact confirmed our meeting time, place and refreshments. The place and time were OK, but no refreshments were there. The Bar Manager, Walter came by, I showed him our confimation, and he immediately subsituted champaign for the cookies. He also arranged a second Meet and Greet, with invitations, and it was great. All refreshments were gratis!

I am very disappointed with HAL's shore based coordinators. I'll be in contact with Princess's people as previously arranged, but I will also try to get to the CD. The wheelhouse bad does appear to be a great place for a day time meeting.

This was posted in a post in January 2006.

Please advise your fellow cruise critic's to contact onboard services at Princess Cruises with these types of request. The ship's are busy with other priorities.

We at Princess Corporate offices do all the setting up of parties, meeting's etc for the various ships.

Princess does not sponsor complimentary cocktail parties unless it is an earned amenity. If you wish to have a party we can do a no host party (everyone pay's for their own drinks), as I have done in the past for the Cruise Critics, or a based on consumption party, billing the escort.

I am attaching our price list so you will know what your options are.

Following is a list of names and ships they coordinate with their email addresses:

Grand and Island Princess - Sue Tieman - stieman@princesscruises.com
Star Princess - Sergio Lopez - slopez@princesscruises.com
Coral Princess - Coleen Reyes - creyes@princesscruises.com
Diamond and Sun Princess - Diana Hall - dhall@princesscruises.com
Pacific, Tahitian Princess - Jan James - jjames@princesscruises.com
Regal and Sapphire Princess - Jenny Streeck - jstreeck@princesscruises.com
Caribbean and Sea Princess - Berda Davis - bdavis@princesscruises.com
Golden and Dawn Princess - Berna Grayer - bgrayer@princesscruises.com

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.

Regards
Sue Tieman

I contacted the person for the CB and she let me know that she no longer is for the CB, but gave me the name of the person who is.

It wouldn't hurt to contact them.

FYI
We have just finished setting up a M&M thru PCL on the Emerald Princess that sails on 5/29. We contacted the On Board Svc's dept and they sent us the same letter with prices:eek:
After some "skilled" negotiating;) they did say that we could have a lounge, dry snacks, a no host bar and that staff (CD etc) would drop by:rolleyes:
It was like pulling teeth!

I think it is great that Princess is going out of their way for our members especially since there are no officially sponsored parties for Cruise Critic folks on board Princess. Whatever they do for us is "extra", and shouldn't be expected.

A "no host" bar sounds just perfect, along with the dry snacks (which can be found elsewhere on board). Also, remember that their 'paid amenity groups' have preference for the SPACE on board....

I guess what I'm trying to say is...you shouldn't expect special treatment because you are a Cruise Critic member.

I completely agree with you Laura. The deputy CD that worked with me, AFTER I had made arrangements through the coordinator in Santa Clarita, was terrific to work with. They really appreciate as much detail as you can give them as soon as you can give it to them. I was talking to one of the assistant CD at our m&g and he told me about another group that was aboard and was really upset because he wouldn't offer a prize of dinner for 12 at Sterlings!!! The more you are willing to work with them the more they'll work with you. Our party was a tremendous success and Princess actually set up the 2nd m&g on our 2nd sea day to finish the contest we had devised.

I'd suggest that if anyone is having a hard time working with Princess they may want to review all correspondence. I had a tremendously easy and fun encounter with them that made the entire thing wonderful. They will offer dry snacks if you are not inclined to try to make a go of your party. Finally, to those that are working it out and the CD wants to put it in the Patter, I would suggest the verbiage that I used, "CC Board Meeting in Skywalkers Lounge..." That will keep the people that want to complain away. As soon as some folk see "CRITIC" they want to fill someone with all their tales of woe. I've found most of those tales to be somewhat self-induced.

We are just back from 31 days on the Sapphire Princess. This cruise has a single number for b/b trips. I set up, with the on-shore coordinator, a Meet and Greet on the first sea day of each segment. I was able to get a second meeting arranged with the Asst Chief Purser. We had a wonderful, friendly (as usual) group of CC people, who spent a lot of time with each other. We heard that some people tried to set up a meet on-board for the cruise before ours, and were turned down.

I think its important for the initial request be made through the coordinators in Santa Clarita. On our trip, the Cruise Director wasn't very accessible.

Have fun
so you call princess ahead for this? too bad they dont do what Royal C. does, they host it,..well no liquor but lots of nice food in a pre reserved room . it was the last cruise we did and it was with people from here, it was nice!
You are right - except....

On our April crossing on the Westerdam, I had arranged a meeting (unhosted and no bar). We were supposed to have coffee, but none was there. The Bar Manager came by, saw we were not properly hosted, and ordered Champaign for all of us. He then insisted that we give him our room numbers so he could host a by invitation only party for us. We had Champaign, and lots of refreshments and about 60 of us showed up. In addition to our host and some members of his staff, we were joined buy the Cruise Director, the Hotel Manager, and,,,,and,,
by the Captain himself. They spent about an hour with us, and it was SUPER!!!

Some ships and their crew just knows how to make it a bit better!!

We are sailing on Emerald next week and i arranged for a M & G in Skywalker on first full day. You book this 45 days before sailing. They offered some coffee and snacks and we will have a cash bar. I'm hoping about 30-40 show up. Last week on HAL only one other couple came. The Beverage magr. set it up and offered free drinks as well as coffee, danish and cookies. I've been to some where the asst CD joins us and brings champagne and joins us for a Q & A.
