Beware Of The Quest

Recommended Posts

There is a time and place for kids. An alcohol induced "adult" event is not one of them. Period. That said, Quest is a big secret to people who have not attended. I cant imagine why anyone who inadvertantly brought their child would then let them stay for the performance once they saw what it was about. I do think there should be some sort of announcement reinforcing that the event is adult and may not suitable for children under 18.

You are your own content control. If you are offended - Leave. If enough people leave then the event format will be changed to encourage better attendance. If the event remains well attended - then you can consider yourself above the masses and find something else to do.

I do appreciate two things from OP -

1 - she was with a group and may have felt compelled to stay (peer pressure is a killer for some people) or perhaps her horrified shock froze her to her seat:eek:

2 - her post is a warning that the typical quest people know and love has possibly devolved into a much more lurid display. (which might be helpful for some folks):)

Oh, one more point about the Quest... It's only one hour (really only about 45 minutes that occurs close to midnight) of your entire cruise experience. As you'll find with many cruises, don't let one isolated incident ruin your vacation. And if you care to not attend the Quest there's plenty of other stuff to do.

As for RCI's reputation? I have found it to be a great line for families and those who enjoy port intensive cruises. We did a lot of research (online and by interviewing people who have cruised in the past) before we took our first cruise and we're glad we chose RCI. We've taken some cruises as a couple and others with our two daughters and had great times (yes, even the Bermuda cruise that was diverted to Canada at the last minute -- did I mention not letting one incident ruin your vacation?).

So, if you're reading these boards and wondering if RCI is for you, I urge you to take an RCI cruise and afterwards come back here and post your feelings about it. Everyone has their own opinion, and yours is just as valid as anyone else.

Brigitte, that's really not *it*. A poster was stating that if there are "people like that" on her cruise, she doesn't want to be on that cruise.

I say that if that is her attitude, she is right. She shouldn't be on that cruise.

Carol, Carol, you are right on the money. It isn't that the poster was against the Quest only. She was also critical of those who participate. I feel so dirty!

I'm confused about something....is the "Quest" printed as a PG-13 show or is it printed as an "Adults" only show? I agree with many posts in that adult entertainment is ...well......just that. Keep the kids away!

But, if it says Pg13 and I brought my 13 y/o I would be offended and mad as heck.

I personally do not think that sounds like my type of entertainment on a cruise, but I guess to each their own. Sounds more like behavior we would see in Vegas.......which is why I never go. IMHO.

We were on the Voyager last week and the quest was very fun!! IT states in the compass that it is for adults only It was also announced before it started that if anyone was unaware that "this is for adults only" Parents still let their kids sit through it!! Same went for the love and Marriage game show there were sooo many kids I couldn't believe it One of the contestents 9 year old was in the audience and the wife kept saying Im so embarresed my son is in here Geez why someone didn't escort him out It was very inapropriate!! But once again it was announced before it started that parents should be advised that it was an adults only show! I don't get it !! I prefer to keep mu keeps in a bubble as long as I can. :o

On the 2/10 Jewel, the Quest was billed as "PG-18" (whatever the heck that means!)

I had seen the last 10 minutes of Quest on the Explorer and had not been all that impressed. My roomie told me I just HAD to give it another shot. I was very surprised but not offended by what I saw. I was amazed at how many men were willing to run up to the CD in their tightie whities when he called for men's pants without the men in them. And I think my roomie set a new land speed record for getting her bra off without removing her blouse! But we had no nudity or suggestive behavior.

I did not see any children at our Quest - but then again, I was laughing so hard.... :D

we sailed Mariner the week after the OP (2/4-2/11) and saw The Quest... there was nothing out of the ordinary for ours... I'm sure it varies slightly by sailing, maybe??

there were children present and I was more appalled by the parents for bringing them but hey, to each his own... don't come crying to me when your Prosti-tot daughter becomes a pop star, shaves her head, and enters re-hab...;)

LMAO:p

RCCL used to always claim it was a PG-13 game. (2002-2003). Although the content of the game has not changed, the description has slowly changed from PG-13 (2002-2003) to Not Recommended for children (2003-2004) to Recommended for adults only (2004-2005), and now it would seem to PG-18. (Parental Guidance).

None of which would suggest that Children under 18 are absolutly not permitted.

I was on the SoS in Jan. They announced this was an "adult only" game and if children were under 18, to please leave. Right beside me was a mom, dad and their young sons..maybe 10&12? They stayed. I looked at the parents to see if they understood the request. Figuring they did, I was disappointed in their parenting choice, but, they were not my kids so we participated. Yes thsoe boys saw somethings they probably questioned the parents about later, but I fault mom and dad. They opened up the "can of worms.."

Can you watch this debacle without being dragged in to participate unwillingly? I'm all about pain, suffering, and humiliation as long as its not my own. ;)

Absolutely. DH and I watched it once on Brilliance. It was held in the Colony Club. We got there early, grabbed a seat at the bar, and watched mayhem and chaos ensue. If someone does try to drag you in unwillingly, just say no. They can usually find passengers more than happy to join a group.

I read one or two people say that they would have to start cruising other lines because of Quest. Well the show has become so popular that it now is a main stay on many other cruise lines. In fact if you look on You tube there are no videos from RCCL just the other cruise lines.

Wrong! I went to youtube 2 days ago and did a search for RCL Quest, and at least 2 two-part vids came up. I watched a minute or so of the first one (don't want to spoil it for ourselves!) and I was appalled! NOT because of the content, or how the game was, but because there were people who OBVIOUSLY had played the game before, or saw a video of it, and had brought a bag full of items. Matt (the CD in the vid) had no sooner called out an item when this SAME guy came up, with the items in question. Now, you tell me that the guy pulled 2 bras off his teammates in the 2.5 seconds it took him to run up waving them! Kind of puts a damper on things when you know from the first round that cheater guy is guaranteed a win. If that happens on our cruise, we'll probably drop out and just watch. :(

We were with a group, who we encouraged to go see this show, only to be horrified by the results!!

Beware on the Mariner!!

I was on the Monarch and went to see the Quest. I found it to be in bad taste, and not to my style. I then did what anyone can do if they want to, I left I used my legs to leave the room. Its the same way with watching TV I hear people talk about how bad somethings are. I say then why do you watch it.

This is the part I don't understand, if you thought the quest was so bad why did you stay?

I make a point to avoid the Quest silliness. But I am amazed and how many people think it OK for guys to run around without pants during Quest, yet somehow find it inappropriate for a woman to take off her top.

Do mean run around without their underpants on? I hadn't noticed anyone concerned about a woman wearing a bra that in many cases covers more than a bikini top.

I have seen men without pants or underpants at 2 of the quests that I attended. I know on Rhapsody recently some of the tattoos that were shown were in areas not usually presented in public. I've also seen piercings that were in placing I don't want to think about. I think I may have accidentally shown a bit more that I should have a couple of years ago when I attempted to remove a bra under my blouse. It's things that happen in the heat of the moment.

I don't remember on previous cruises but I know on Rhapsody CD Abe Hughes said at least 3 times that the quest was meant to be an adult show and children should not attend unless the parents wanted them to see some things that may bring up questions that parents don't want to answer. Some parents did let their kids stay, but my husband and I didn't participate (although we did watch) so we did not actively contribute to corrupting the minors.

I haven't ever seen lap dancing or men pantomiming sexual acts yet. Those might be new ones for the list. The list doesn't seem to change much from ship-to-ship or year-to-year so I guess it needs revamped.

Thanks to all who commented on this thread. I am booked on the Mariner this summer and might have considered bringing my son who will be 13 to Quest. Now, I'm not sure, but I am grateful for the information. Is Quest the only entertainment that is racy or is there more?

Quest and Love and Marriage are supposed to be 18 and over, your son should NOT be there. It states it in the compass and they make an announcement at the beginning of the show!!!This is an adults only show

That's another reason we don't even bother to go watch anymore. It spoils it when people bring big bags of the "usual suspects" and cheat their way to winning the stupid little prizes (stupid little prizes, IMO; I know not everyone feels that way).

The beauty of a cruise is there is something for everyone on the ship. Quest is not for everyone, there are many other activities to choose from. It's not for me, but if you like that sort of thing, go and enjoy. What I don't like is that children are allowed in there. I went once, and participated about ten years ago, there were children present. It's up to the staff to "throw them out". The staff has no problen refusing to serve liquor to minors, certain clubs are over 18, adults don't participate in Ocean Adventure, or go to the teen get togethers, so this should be kept "adults only". If parents are so worried about their pre-teeners being alone for the hour, that thought pattern is inconsisstant with allowing them to view this game.
