White Pass bus and train combination?

Hi guys,

I don't remember where I read an advance to take bus up and train down. How could we do it technically? Is it possible to book only one-way ticket for train? The same question about bus. What bus is recommended?

Thank you in advance,
Ilya
P.S. I'm novice here and relatively fresh cruiser. Only one cruise in the past: Norwegian Wind, November 2003. In future: Norwegian Star, Alaska, September 12.

It is usually best to take the train out of Skagway as most of the narration is in this direction- toward the summit. There usually are 2 bus return routes. Best I think is the bus that goes into the Yukon so as to see the great scenery there- the shorter bus trips are about 20+ miles and return from the summit back to Skagway with a possible stop at Lairsville- a recreated Gold Camp. A lot of people enjoy going to the Yukon and take photos of the beautiful sign entering it, (a bus stop). The summit is in BC.

There are several bus/train combos (at least with Princess).

Just make sure you know which one you are looking for - there is one that combines Liarsville (via bus) with the train and then one that combines the Yukon (via bus) with the train. There is also the Best of Skagway which is a different combination I believe. So research what you want and book accordingly!

Thank you all for help. Here is extract from the NCL Shore excursions book

Is it the trip Budget Queen wrote about?

WHITE PASS RAILWAY, BUS & GOLD RUSH TRAIL CAMP. This tour combines the White Pass and Yukon Route railway with a scenic motorcoach ride along the Klondike Highway and a visit to historic Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp. As you crest the summit of the White Pass, you will enter the eerie landscape of the Tormented Valley in Fraser, British Columbia. Here you will debark the White Pass train for the return motor coach ride along the Klondike Highway. From the vantage of the highway, you can view Dead Horse Gulch and the railroad route etched in the mountain face where you traveled just an hour before.

NCL also propose Best of Skagway combo tour, but it’s too pricey for us, as it is more expensive and doesn’t give discount for child.

And again, if we are booking independently, is it possible to book only one way trip for train and bus? Does anybody has the appropriate links?

This is the short tour. Yukon had the link for independent bus/train options. I think???
