Murder Mystery Dinner

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone--

Something I wanted to post right away cause I couldnt find alot of info about it ...

The Murder Mystery Dinner was great!:)

The Brilliance had a choice of 2 nights. On the Panama canal 10 night it was held on both Grand Cayman and Costa Rica nights. It was 50 per person. My husband and I found it very entertaining and funny. We went by ourselves and were seated with several other couples who we enjoyed spending the evening with. The very talented main singers and a few dancers are the actors. The food and service at Portofinos is excellent. Plenty of fantastic food. Everyone gets the antipasto, ceasar salad, and there was a choice of filet of beef and a chicken. And tiramisu. Yum. And they sure do keep topping off the wine!

No, there is no eating off the regular menu on those nights. The murder-mystery takes up the whole restaurant.

My husband and I glad we went!:)

I am glad to hear some kind of review about the Mystery Dinner at Portifinos. Sounds like you had a great time. I am not sure if we will do it or not.

My husband and I also went to the Murder Mystery Dinner in Portofino's, but on the Jewel of the Seas in February. Just like the OP, we highly recommend it!

The cost was $49/person, and was funny and interactive. The food was comprised of a special menu, but because I am a vegatarian, and there were no veggie options, I asked our waiter for something else. They brought me a very good portabello mushroom dish as my entree, and I had the appetizer salads with everyone else.

It was only offered on one night on the Jewel, probably because it was only an 8-night cruise. If you've got the time, and want to spend a bit more on your SeaPass account, do it! You'll want to book within the first couple of days after you board though because it will be full!

We did it this past April on the Jewel of the Seas.. Everyone in our group seemed to enjoy it, tho' I felt the dinner was not quite as good as I had hoped.. I'm more of a 'fish' eater, and that was not offered that evening!:( :p

I would do it again, if the 'group' was interested, but if I was on my own, I'd pass.. Again, just IMHO..:D

My friend and I did the Murder Mystery dinner on Mariner of the Seas in January and it was great fun. It is as interactive as you want it to be. There is a lot of laughing and chatting about the 'plot' trying to work out who did the murder. The meal was lovely. I would though, like to try Portofinos without the set menu some time.

I highly recommend the Murder Mystery dinner to anyone who is thinking of doing it - its a great night.

Glad How interactive is it?

On the Jewel, it started in the Safari Club, where the characters are introduced and the story is established. When you are seated in the Safari Club, if you don't want to be involved in any audience interaction, just be sure to not sit in any of the chairs in the front right around the perimeter.

For example, my husband and I like to get involved in comedies, improvs, etc so we like to sit up front. We did this at the Safari Club, and when the "fortune teller" grabbed someone out of the audience, she pulled out my husband. She looked into her crystal ball and said that she saw him as a runway model. At that moment, "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred started playing, and my husband proceeded to walk like a male model and up and down the runway over and over and over. I think they thought he'd do it once, but he is a ham and wouldn't stop until the music stopped. He was a little too good at it by the way.

Anyway, from the Safari Club, after the plot was established and the drama began, we were all escorted down the hallway to Portofino's where we ate dinner, and the story continued and ended.

While at Portofino's, I don't recall any of the audience members being asked to do anything; that was only for the portion in the Safari Club, so you can really control how involved you get by where you sit while in there.

DH and I are interested in this on our upcoming cruise. Do they offer 2 times per night to coincide with the 2 dinner seatings or is only offered at one time. Our cruise is 14 days so I am assuming that they will have at least 2 nights. What times do they start?

Thanks,

Gail

We did the murder mystery on AOS and really enjoyed the evening --- but if you want true Portofino food, this will be disappointing. There is not the selection or the attention as the evening is all about solving the crime. On AOS we started in the Viking Crown lounge with hors d'oeuvres and the first act of the play. Then we were taken to portofinos where the tables were arranged as 4 large, long tables. We had dinner and interviewed the suspects after eating. Then there was a little more character work and finally we had to vote for who we thought the murderer was. Lastly, all was revealed. It was fun, but do it for the whole experience, not for the food alone.

On our 8-night Jewel cruise it was only offered at one time, and I think it was at 6 p.m. (I am going from memory...LOL...even though it's only been a few weeks since we were on it, I can't remember for sure!). It was on a day when we had to be back aboard the ship in port at 5 p.m. so it didn't cut any of our excursions short. We were normally scheduled for late-seating, so this was early for us.

I am sure that it varies with ship and itinerary. Someone told us that the Brilliance had just started with the 2 nights for the 10 day sailings because it was so popular.

And both nights it starts at 6:45 and you meet in a lounge for champagne and the for the start of the entertainment. (note:it does begin on time).

Maybe you could try emailing Crown and Anchor to see if it is offered on your sailing.
