I read the answer to this question so long ago that I have forgotten what is was. Does the Coral washer and dryers take quarters? Where can you buy the detergent?

Thanks! -Matt

Quarters are the coins used in most Princess machines, though some ships have free ones. I don't remember about the Coral, but you can save money by bringing your own detergent in a zip lock baggie. It doesn't take much space in your bag, and you can choose the brand you prefer. I also pack fabric softener dryer sheets in a baggie. You also might need a set of brass knuckles to defend your laundry while it's in a machine. Some of the "ladies" can be scary!!! For heaven's sake, don't abandon your clothes to go back to your cabin. You might find them on the floor when you come back! :(

Yes the Coral takes quarters.

In the laundry room vending machine.

I have not had problems using the laundries on either of our two Coral cruises. The machines have powdered detergent. Since I prefer liquid, I found small bottles of Tide liquid and used precious packing weight to bring it. It was worth it! You can get 8 loads from one bottle. The laundry rooms were always clean and everything worked on both cruises. We lucked out that our cabin was about six doors from the hallway to the laundry, so it wasn't difficult to go from our balcony to the laundry to check on our clothes and not miss much sunshine.

On the Island Princess recently, Coral's sister ship, I spent a huge load of quarters and then some. Everything costs 4 quarters: the washer, the dryer, the detergent, the Downy. (That's still only $4 a load). As mentioned above, the coin machine was very balky, so I resorted to ironing (always resourceful, that's me) my dollar bills and then the coin machine accepted them. One can also get rolls of quarters from the purser's desk, the Casino only gives out chips!

What was said above about leaving your laundry in a washer or dryer is quite true! There's always somebody who wants your machine desperately and will "dump" your laundry in a heap somewhere. Bringing one's own detergent is a personal choice, but I did bring my own Bounce, those sheets weigh less than powder detergent.:D

We were just on the Coral last month, and used the laundry a few times. The machines take quarters, and there was a change machine in the laundry room where you could change bills. Also there was a vending machine with soap, but I brought my own. I found the small bottles of liquid very handy, as they work well for a presoak if you have a bad stain. There were irons and ironing boards as well. We found going at odd times worked well for avoiding crowds. My friend and I went after the evening shows, when everyone else went to bed. The laundry room was not next to a cabin, so it did not disturb anyone. I picked up a collapsable laundry hamper at a dollar store, and that was a really great thing to have.

Enjoy your cruise!

:) Just got off the Coral in April. On previous Princess cruises I carried my own laundry soap, fabric softener sheets and quarters. What a PAIN IN THE NECK. And it is true, you shouldn't leave your laundry unattended. This time we took advantage of the $20 all-you-can-stuff in a bag offered at least once every cruise and sometimes twice on longer cruises. We were able to put a lot of laundry in the bag and they also pressed the t-shirts and shorts that we put in. I'll never fuss with laundry again on a cruise.

I'm going on the Coral over Thanksgiving. Does anyone know if they offer the Bag of laundry special on all Coral cruises?. We are arriving in 4 days early to take the DD to Disneyworld and driving down to Ft. Lauderdale departure morning and really won't have time to wash up what we've been wearing and probably won't want to do laundry any time soon.

Thanks

They probably won't offer the laundry special early in the cruise.

I also take along my detergent, fabric softener sheets and a stain stick. Also, my DH comes armed with a roll of quarters.

I only tolerate one brand of laundry detergent, so for me, it is worth carrying it along. And, I find that measuring out just what you think you are going to need - enough for three or four loads for instance - keeps the weight down in the luggage. Since I don't the detergent and bottle home, it creates space and weight for shopping!!!!

On our last set of 3 b2b it was nice to come home with only a few loads of dirty laundry and the dry cleaning for the dry cleaner, instead of three weeks worth of laundry hassle.

With multiple washers and dryers on board, it usually only takes about 75 minutes to get 3-4 loads done, instead of most of the day at home!
