oraf7 Posted July 30, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2007 I know this sounds like a stupid question but there are 5 of us cruising in 2 days for 9 nights and I am just curious what your method is for storing your dirty clothes. Do you bring an extra bag or ??? Just curious this board always has ingenious suggestions that I would never think of.
robthens Posted July 30, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2007 We bring a laundry bag (light weight, draw string). We put it in the corner of the closet. All the diry clothes go in that bag. Then, on the trip home all the dirty clothes go in the same suit case. Works for us. Kitchen trash bag would work just as well.
Lynn the Cruiser Posted July 30, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2007 We bring a laundry bag (light weight, draw string). We put it in the corner of the closet. All the diry clothes go in that bag. Then, on the trip home all the dirty clothes go in the same suit case. Works for us. Kitchen trash bag would work just as well. That's basically what I do, too. My sister keeps hers in a bag under the bed with the suitcases.
daisysheridan Posted July 30, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2007 We have a pop-up laundry 'basket' that we stick in the closet floor.
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 30, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 30, 2007 We bring a laundry bag and then overtime put it in an empty suitcase. Keith
Kailyn Posted July 30, 2007 #6 Share Posted July 30, 2007 What's great for the trip back home are those compression bags. They don't need a vacuum to suck out the air. You can get them at places like Mori Luggage and REI, but I also saw a pack at Target last week.
ChefPeg Posted July 30, 2007 #7 Share Posted July 30, 2007 My sister keeps hers in a bag under the bed with the suitcases. This is what we do too. It's already in the suitcase at the end of the cruise.
Cruzfan34 Posted July 30, 2007 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2007 We have a laundry bag with an open weave...kind of mesh-looking. The air flows through it so there's no "aroma" by the end of the cruise. :p
KLLund Posted July 30, 2007 #9 Share Posted July 30, 2007 I use those huge zip-locks .. treat em like a vacuum bag .. and keep the odor out of the state room .. in laundry as soon as we get home.
Happy ks Posted July 30, 2007 #10 Share Posted July 30, 2007 We send things out to be laundered, especially the underwear :p . I'm probably the odd person here, but we hang a lot of our clothes back up in the closet, towards the back, once they're worn. I find it much easier to repack if stuff isn't wadded up into a hamper. We may put a few things into the suitcases during the week, I keep 2 gallon ziploc bags for dirty stuff. For me, a laundry hamper is just another "thing" that can be left home to lighten the load. klct39lg Posted July 30, 2007 #11 Share Posted July 30, 2007 We like to pack light, so I end up doing laundry. I don't mind. Plus, my DH is a runner so I cannot leave his running stuff until we get home. (ick) Whatever dirty clothing we have at the end of the cruise, we put into a plastic bag and then into one suitcase. :)
Cruzfan34 Posted July 30, 2007 #12 Share Posted July 30, 2007 We do bring the travel packs of washing detergent and I'll wash my dainties out and hang them to dry...sometimes wet swimsuits also. I won't put wet clothes in the laundry bag. You're just asking for mildew!
hajekfam Posted July 30, 2007 #13 Share Posted July 30, 2007 We put our dry cleanable (hanging) clothes back in the closet after wearing like Happy ks - keeping them to one side. fThey do go back into our garment bag on the last night. For our machine washable clothes, we bring one of those small mesh pop-up hampers - they weigh next to nothing - and put it in a corner of the room. When it gets full, we pull out the suitcase that is under the bed and pack those dirty clothes. Makes last day packing easier as most items will already be packed. It'sRC4ME Posted July 30, 2007 #14 Share Posted July 30, 2007 I have a big mesh laundry bag that I put things in and I keep in in the suitcase, under the bed, so no smells escape. I pack all my "delicates" in a large ziploc bag (with the air squeezed out), and then put them in a drawer when I unpack. Once they are used, I put them in the ziploc in the suitcase. I also bring a travel sized spray bottle of Febreze, and find that it works wonders for freshening things I am going to wear again (I assume I'll wear all daytime clothes twice), and for getting smoke smells out of DH's tuxedo after he spends a couple of hours in the casino. JolieMadam Posted July 31, 2007 #15 Share Posted July 31, 2007 Aaah! There is nothing like the aroma of soiled laundry...to eliminate that, we hang our dirty clothes up to the back or unused end of the closet. That way they air out before they go to the suitcase for repacking. It's amazing that they do not have the dirty clothes smell doing it this way. We even do this with our soiled gym clothes. When dirty clothing is in a nice warm plastic bag, the bacteria is going to proliferate and it will reek. The front zippered pocket of the suitcase is used to hold the laundry on the return trip but we do place it into a plastic cleaners bag then.
