Aquahound Posted November 20, 2007 #26 Share Posted November 20, 2007 BTW I have sailed the Color Fantasy earlier this year and was amazed about the product delivered especially having in mind this ship is going back and forth between Kiel and Oslo 365 days a year on a regular ferry schedule. It was more like a mini-cruise experience. Wow! Thank you for sharing that. I was amazed at those photos. I had no idea another line had the Promenade, right down to the English Pub. FitzLA Posted November 20, 2007 Author #27 Share Posted November 20, 2007 Yeah, I don't think that RCCL can do anything. It's just like NCL putting a rock wall on their latest ship, or Carnival putting a movie screen on theirs (copying princess). Ship designs evolve, nobody can be 100% original. Carnival and Princess are both owned by Carnival Corp. So its no wonder they have similarities.
Rare BillOh Posted November 21, 2007 #28 Share Posted November 21, 2007 Interestingly, it sounds like they plan to have ship's facilities open while the ship is docked. I have never been on a ship that was allowed to keep the shops and casino open when the ship was not actually at sea. I wonder how they plan to pull that off. Maybe the back of the ship is still in international waters while the front is docked?
cruiserbryce Posted November 21, 2007 #29 Share Posted November 21, 2007 some time ago there was discussion about large floating cities, which this seems to be more than a cruise ship...but isnt this just a concept at this point...a project that large to debut in 2010 would seemingly be already under construction
ChampionCruiser Posted November 26, 2007 #30 Share Posted November 26, 2007 Carnival and Princess are both owned by Carnival Corp. So its no wonder they have similarities. But nCL and RCCL are not.
Rancher Dave Posted November 26, 2007 #31 Share Posted November 26, 2007 do you think they even have a port somewhere that will hold that thing?505 meters = 1656.82415 feet More about calculator. I guess it will be like the biggest pick-up trucks in a small parking lot, just take two parking places. I'd think at some point there would be an issue with being able to get everyone to muster stations in a resonable amount of time that could constrict the ship growth to some artificial point without significantly changing the design of ships into perhaps two decks for lifeboat boarding, but then, they would have to design the lifeboats where they would not be stacked when launching.
