Royal Caribbean's Genesis to Offer Towering Views?

Recommended Posts

'Towers' is indeed a poor choice for the word to describe what is going on. These are NOT going to be individual apartment-style block towers scattered around. Take 10-12 of these Central Park Balcony Modules and weld them end to end, fore to aft, and you have a 'wall' of superstructure that forms the upper half of GENESIS, exterior balconies that face the sea, interior balconies that face Central Park. Since CP will occupy the area directly above the ceiling of the Royal Promenade it will also afford the opportunity for more glass 'windows' to let the daylight in. The Royal Promenade will not be any higher than the RP's in the previous class ships, the ground floor and 3 floors of Promenade Window Cabins.

I did notice that the thread title said '..offering towering views'. Somehow I/we picked out the word 'Towers' and ran with that word, all along still knowing these weren't going to be individual 'Towers' but part of a wall of modules that offer 'towering views'. I think we are mostly on the same page now?

One thing I've noticed about the rendering we've seen is the lack of larger windows that would indicate the public areas on the lower decks (dining rooms, bars, centrum, etc. I certainly hope the dining room doesn't just have those windows immediately forward of the RCI logo at he aft end. Not too impressive. It makes me wonder how accurate the drawing is. But its certainly fun to guess.

In the artists renderings above you can see dozens and dozens of very large portholes just above and below the lifeboats, as well as many other medium sized porthole windows scattered about the hull. The locations of the windows near the lifeboats would lead me to believe that these are the many public rooms you are looking for, as quick access from the Emergency Lifeboat stations to the lifeboats would be from here.

In the actual shipyard pictures the angle is a bit too oblique and the pictures depth of field really prevents you from seeing too far down the hull, but it appears that the portholes may not yet be cut out of the steel forms that are currently assembled that make up the hull. This can happen later on as construction continues .

In addition to the post of mine above, I noticed above the 2 rows of porthole windows that would indicate the location of the dinng room, on the very next deck above (and just above the inflatable life boats) that there is a large 'shaded in area', which runs the same length as the dining room windows below it, that may indicate more windows on the upper level (?) of the dining room.

This is my first post on this thread -- I've been just reading and trying to catch up where ya'll are. I had not thought much about the construction of the ship until now but you all have made me REALLY CURIOUS !!! Now I really can't wait to see some more construction pictures of her and how she's coming along.

I'm calling my TA today about getting on the inaugural. Please forgive my "dumbness" but can anybody tell me her itinerary? I know she will base in Florida but any other clues?

Thanks, everyone. Ya'll are all great!

First off welcome to the boards dmwnc1959, please stick around you've brought allot of great points to the board.

Secondly there are a few confirmed facts that seem to have been forgotten and should not be argued. We know for sure that there is a Central Park area that includes interior balconies. There is no arguing that, the evidence is written and clearly visible. We also know that there is a Royal Promenade directly below that on the same floors as usual. This RP has a slightly different shape (probably caused by it stretching through an atrium for the first time) and reaches to the very back of the ship. That is where the Boardwalk is (probably the outside part). All three of those things are confirmed by the blueprints given to the ship yard. There is no arguing the existence of those. As far as atrium number and location that is still up in the air as well as the length of the Central Park. Judging by the bow curve in the hull it appears that the section directly in front of the current "towers" will hold the Front Atrium. You can also clearly see what appears to be the Theater which helps to confirm that as well.

Since we are speculating... have you noticed the aft area in the renderings? Which kind of resembles an open flat area. Would it be possible for the RP to actually extend all the way aft into a big open sun deck (of course there would be some kind of glass wall dividing the RP from the outdoors)? If that is the case, it makes sence that the shaded port holes and windows belong to the restaurant, which would be located on the three decks directly below the RP.

I took another look at the larger version of the photo from the article (took it from the home page so it's bigger but cut differently, i'll attach it) You can see that the "towers" go up from the promenade and then cut back allot before the central park section. That extra promenade section has beige boxes that are either the elevators or stairwells (I think elevator by the look and position). Both require extra protection and would thus look different. That may be the atrium area then. You will also notice that the top deck of the "towers" juts out at the very end of the existing section.

PS: The blue tarp is really a cargo crate, lol.

I'm a little late to the dance here, but where is all this information confirmed? I'm not doubting it, just curious.

An employee from the Aker Yards has been releasing information, hints, and photos on another forum. He's currently on an Independence Sea Trial. There have also been a few people that have met some people close to the project on various cruises and all the stories seem to match up the the Aker guys though they gave less detailed info, more hints.

I think that most of us picked up on what they meant by towers. They are indeed towers but not skyscrapers.:) Your comments so far have been very good and interesting. Welcome to Cruise Critic.

On the other site that has a lot of information concerning the Genesis, it was reported on one of the older threads that they back of the Genesis will be a huge wall of glass to let in more natural light. This makes sense. It was also reported that the Royal Promenade will be a little different than that of the Voyager and Freedom class. More open with some natural light. So far the person reporting this stuff has been spot on. He has not been on line lately due to the Independence. Hopefully after she is delivered we will hear a few more bits but I'm afraid that RCI is tightening the ropes on the amount of info being given out.

I posted this awhile back on All Things Genesis:

For anyone not sure who the Aker Builder is, he has a series of Genesis updates over at http://www.cruisepage.com/

1)stamps- http://www.*****/travelpa...c&f=1&t=009922

2)first blocks- http://www.*****/travelpa...c&f=1&t=009946

3)cabins, Royal prom, Central Park and "Board Walk"- http://www.*****/travelpa...c&f=1&t=009963

4)keel laying- http://www.*****/travelpa...c&f=1&t=010036

5)keel layed- http://www.*****/travelpa...c&f=1&t=010054

6)central park confirmed- http://www.*****/travelpa...c&f=1&t=010080

7)funnel project- http://www.*****/travelpa...c&f=1&t=010093

8)lifeboats- http://www.*****/travelpa...c&f=1&t=010206

9)construction update- http://www.*****/travelpa...c&f=1&t=010218

He has since confirmed in this thread http://www.*****/travelpage/ubb-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=010296 that Central Park will not have a roof.

To give you an idea of how credible this guy is back on 10/31/07 he mentioned that there was possibly going to be another "ultra-voyager" (Freedom class code name) class ship to be built between the Genesis ships. A few weeks ago we all got public confirmation that they are negotiating that deal but have pushed it to after the two genesis ships launch. http://www.*****/travelpage/ubb-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=009968

This has nothing to do with the Courtyard/Central Park/Boardwalk, but has anybody commented on how you can see back part (only part there as of now) of the Theater in the construction pic?

I'm guessing the RP and forward atrium will be located right outside of the entrance to the area?

Yeah, I noticed that. It looks odd, does anyone else think it looks off from the usual. Possibly a new shape (solstice style) or some other form of entertainment venue. Looking at it I'm just having a hard time visualizing the seating arrangement yet it still is clearly some huge show venue.

Just a quick Thank You for the warm welcome to CC. As I mentioned before I had lurked behind the scenes for quite some time before jumping in and registering to become a member. I am glad the graphics I posted were of some assistance in clearing up some of the points that were tryng to be made.

Looking forward to the next Royal Caribbean news press release with more details (and hopefully pictures) so we can stop guessing (but we do love to speculate dont we) and start booking our cruise on her! ;-)

It almost looks like, if I must say, a planetarium. It's only two decks high, but extremely wide and steep. Like...a planetarium.:D

Who knows, it could just be, like you said, a new theater arrangement.

I would LOVE to see a planetarium on her. I had an opportunity to experience the one on Queen Mary 2 while cruising on her and it was amazing. I think that it would be an incredible addition to GENESIS and her 'soon to be announced' array of diverse entertainment options.

I hope that there will be a DVD produced showing the building of this ship like they did with the Voyager of the Seas. That was a great DVD.

I would hope so too! This will be a master work of art that NEEDS to be preserved, that's for sure!!!
