pooltime53 Posted May 6, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 6, 2008 I am doing a 7 day cruise on Carnival at Port Everglades then on to a cruise on Princess the same day that I get off Carnival. Does anyone know if the terminals are within walking distance, or will a taxi be willing to take us?
firefly333 Posted May 6, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 6, 2008 Its kinda spread out but I could walk between the two. You shouldnt need a taxi unless you have a lot of luggage or to save wear and tear on the wheels of your luggage. Those streets tear up the wheels. Heck its only about $12 taxi from the airport to the port, so it would only be a couple of dollars to grab a taxi sitting out at your port. AdrenalineRush Posted May 6, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 6, 2008 Most of the taxis wouldnt want to take you that short of a distance and lose out on a fare going out of the port. I have seen them refuse pax, so if you go the taxi route, dont tell them you only want to go a short distance until your bags are in the trunk. Something else to consider, even if you are the last one off the Carnival ship, it would still be around 10ish, would you really want to stand in line that early for the Princess cruise? I know some do like to arrive that early..so its a personal choice.
funship freddy Posted May 6, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 6, 2008 The Fort Lauderdale taxi authority does not allow them to refuse service because of distance. I had a cabbie TRY and refuse to take me "across the street" to the Fort Lauderdale Grande.....he changed his attitude when I dialed the authority phone number from the back seat of his cab. He wasn't happy...but then neither was I.
Kurbanfan Posted May 6, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 6, 2008 It looks closer then it is. I think a taxi driver would have no problem taking you over there. Won't hurt to ask. But like the others said you will probably get there too early.....so maybe a nice walk wouldn't be a bad idea........ I would love to do a b2b like that!!! fllady Posted May 6, 2008 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2008 They also have shuttles that will take you to the parking garages maybe they could drop you off on the way. Can't hurt to ask, and they ar free.
BraysMom Posted May 6, 2008 #7 Share Posted May 6, 2008 Good luck getting one to take you; about eight years ago we were once dropped off at the wrong Celebrity ship at this port and no taxi wanted to take us such a short ride. We paid a taxi $20 to take us to the other Celebrity ship, after already paying to get to the port from the airport. Although language was a communication barrier and the cause of our initial problem, we learned a valuable lesson. Now we always ask the porter if we are at the right ship before allowing our luggage to be unloaded from the taxi. Even though we could see the other ship, it was a long walk with too much luggage. Now we take less luggage ;) , but I still think it would have been a lot of wear and tear on the wheels if we had walked. As a side note, the upside was that a Celebrity employee escorted us through the line to embark when he learned of our experience. We did not expect that, as it wasn't Celebrity's fault that a taxi had dropped us at the wrong ship. We only told him what had happened in a "can you believe it, we are idiots" kind of way. Later, we realized that we had forgotten something important so we got off the ship to see if there was a drug store fairly nearby. We were going to try to hire a taxi to take us, wait for us, and then return us to the ship. This same rep saw us, found out what we needed, told us to hang on a second, went and talked to someone, then came back to us and took us in his own vehicle to a Walgreens and then back to the ship. He told us if his boss hadn't let him take us, he was going to loan us his car! Nice guy, great personality, great ambassador for Celebrity. big_duck Posted May 7, 2008 #10 Share Posted May 7, 2008 The other question would be will Princess be willing to take your luggage that early in the morning. Take you time getting off the ship. You could always ask a porter if (with the right tip) be willing to cart your luggage to the other ship if it isn't that far.
Cruiser from MS Posted May 7, 2008 #11 Share Posted May 7, 2008 I know when we left on the Liberty a Princess ship was docked next to us, but there were also two other Princess ships at the far end of the port. You can check the port calendar to see where your ship will be docked and maybe Princess can arrange a transfer to pick you up at the Carnival Pier.
