$100 a day, per person, spending money. Too much?

I'd be curious as to what you take for spending money, per day. Drinks, souvenirs, bingo, casino and just shopping. My wife and I calculate $100 a day for each of us. Does this seem about average?

Everything you purchase on board will be billed to your sea pass card. You cannot use cash on board, except in the casino. You could pay your sea pass with cash at the end of the cruise(though there's no way to know in advance exactly how much cash you'd need), but it is much easier to let the sea pass bill your credit card.

OOPS. I guess I didn't ask it right. Yes purchases on the ship get put on your Sea Pass. But I'm trying to figure out what most people plan on spending each day. On the ship and off. We budget a $100 a day for each of us. (And we run seperate credit cards.) I usually pay mine off at the Pursors desk before the end of the cruise. My wife...she pays hers off... eventually.

Hubby and I normally take $1000 for a 7-night cruise. I plan on $200 per port - but haven't spent that yet. We have always had money left so I take it and apply it to our shipboard account and have never had a balance by weeks end.

 

Unfortunately my biggest expense is all the pictures I keep buying.

If that is for a bar tab, then you will have a pickeled liver! If it includes your drinks, tips, photos, an evening or two in the extra cost restaurant, shore excursions and a nice commemorative piece of jewelry for your BW, then, it may not be enough. It all depends on what you like to spend money on and what you can live without.

OK, so everything is billed to your Sea Pass while on board? No cash?? Is there any way to keep track of what you're charging up or do you just need to write it down or keep a mental note of it?

 

No cash in the gift shops, either?

 

My daughter & her friend are booked in their own cabin with my husband's charge card. How can we track what they spend? They each only have so much money, and I sure don't want to end up paying way over what they have.

WE don't do excursions, but I love the casino and the Martini bar, so I figure a hundred a day for the both of us and am usually right on with that. Two hundred a day and I would be veeery happy.

Sue C, You can check your acct activity and balance anytime on your TV. Whenever you fill out the billing info in your document booklet it will ask who is responsible and who is able to charge on the acct under your credit card. Everything showed up under my "folio". My daughters had another cabin and for example when they charged in the arcade it appeared on their "folio", then was credited off and applied to mine.

Just stop down at the Pursors desk and ask what's currently on your Sea Pass. They'll pop it up on their computer. I usually do it every morning. With the question in my mind; "I spent HOW much, last night."

In addition, I do a pre-cruise estimation. For example, if there is just the 2 of us in a standard cabin:

Tips: $20 per day = $140

Wine: $30 per day = $210

Ships Pictures about $50

Shore excursions= $300

Beverages $20 per day = $140

Dine at extra tarrif = $50

Souveniers (t-shirts etc) $250

 

That is roughly $1140 for 2 people. If you have cruised before, just consult your statement to see what you usually spend.

In a suite, I have to subtract beverage expenses and add a tip for the concierge, so it is still pretty accurate. This is just a little under your target of 100 per person per day. Add is a nice little trinket for your BW and you have the $1400 expense account on a cruise. If you gamble, you have to add in more. I do, but I make a point of never letting myself loose more than $20. If I win some, I can play more or something else. I hope this helps.

I would double that for a great time. We usually spend about $2500.00 for the 2 of us on a 7 day cruise. My wife likes to shop and I love to drink and gamble. Good luck.

I think $100 a day will more than suffice. DH and I like to really enjoy ourselves and try not to pay attention to what we are spending when we are on vacation. We averaged less than $75 per person, but we don't do spa services and didn't spend much gambling. That total did include tips also, but not $ in ports.

On some of the older ships you can not view your account on your TV. You can go to the pursurs desk and ask for you total on your account. Every time you charge something you will be given a charge slip. We keep all of our receipts to compare to our final bill. If you keep your receipts you should be able to add up the total each day.

It all depends on what you plan on buying. On our last cruise we spent $6,500 (Cartier Watch) included in that total. But on the cruise prior to the last we spent about $700.

 

On average I would suggest $100pp per day to be a good amount to have a great time. Just don't lose it all in the casino.
