How is the work on Sky coming?

Maybe we should start a list of everything we want the "first" cruisers to report on -

I want to know about the buffet stations, where and what? I hate standing in line and finding out I didn't want anything there anyway. (which I have learned to do but DH has not)

:D

I'm sailing the Sky on 8/4 and I would like to know about this too when someone returns. The buffet lay-out on the POA was probably the worst I've encountered on a ship.

I'll fill you in on all the details as soon as we get back. I'll get lots of photos to share.

I and DH will be there on the 14th. Our first cruise ever. I am excited, hope we like it.

Welcome to Cruise Critic Bobiken! We'll be on that sailing with you as well. Have you joined our roll call yet? It is always nice to meet fellow CC members.

My question is this, if all the renovations have been done, what is Sky doing this week?

My son has been on the Sky for the last month in the Bahamas helping get the ship ready to sail working LONG days. He is an ASM (Assistant Systems Manager) working on the computer system.

He called last night from Miami and said they are still very busy and things are not ready to go yet but will be by Monday. Colin Veitch was on the ship this week checking things out.

Enjoy your cruise - he said the ship is looking good!

I am looking forward to the Sky in Florida. I have no update but I truly hope it is a a quality ship. The competition will not be tough for this Bahama itenerary. RCCL Majesty, Sovereign do not impress and the carnival ships are way past their prime. Yet, if this comes out similar to the upkeep of NCL Majesty it will be sad.

I'm looking forward to a freshly refurbished ship. I actually sailed on Carnival Imagination in January a few months after her long dry dock and I have to say that except for basic layout she was unrecognizable... they can do amazing things in a relatively short period of time. I had friends who were on the second sailing after the dry dock and they actually thought they were on a brand new ship.

I may start looking to cruise on "fresh" ships from now on!

Kylie-I don't know about everyone else, but I sure want to give my thanks to you for posting this info! :D

Sounds like they're doing a good job getting the Sky ready!

I love McDebbie's idea of a list of questions!

To all the early Sky cruisers who have been on Carnival recently...is the bed and bedding as comfy as Carnivals comfort bedding? One of my favorite things on a cruise is cocooning in my bedding while the ship rocks me to sleep.

My DH loves to play bingo and go to the casino on the ships. How much is the bingo? I've scoured the NCL board for info and all I come up with is it's pricey. If so, I guess he could spend more money in the casino while sipping all those free drinks! ;) Is it only a certain times that you get free drinks with the casino card? Is beer included?

I am so excited about trying out NCL. When I booked this cruise I didn't know anything about Sky's history. I am really excited about all I've read. Thanks in advance for all the info you early Sky cruisers bring back!

No, they left the artwork the same as it was.....

I can confirm that. I was in Downtown Miami the other day and I saw the Sky, same artwork which by the way, I LOVE! :) Less than 4 days and I'll be sitting in my balcony on the Sky! :D

You paint a great picture and I am green with envy. I'll be on Sky in November but I hope you will tell us every detail from your cruise.:D

We are thinking of taking the 3 day cruise on the Sky after Christmas with family, many of whom have never cruised before. We would also like to know if there will be lobster night, or what the menus for the 3 day will look like. Thanks and looking forward to the reports of those who be cruising! Have fun!

We are sailing 8/11 and there is supposed to be "Lobster Galore" special where lobster is served two out of our four nights :p according to the email from NCL...

I thought for sure that NCL would have change the art on the hull.

Wrong again. :(

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter one iota, but sailing to the Bahamas with leis on the hull really does give me the jitters.......

I agree, this just makes me think there are no real plans for keeping the sky for the long term

I seriously don't get why this bothers anyone. It is just hull art, you don't look at it once you are onboard, only at embarkation and debarkation. And even then, it is just flowers. There are LOTS of flowers in the Caribbean. I'm sure they only had so much to spend on the rehab and they decided to spend most of it on the inside of the Sky instead of on the hull art. Sounds good to me!

We need the hull art in case we get lost and need to identify which ship to get on. I hope we don't get too drunk and start thinking we are in Hawaii.

Just kidding!

It has been posted here that the Sky is and has been for sale for awhile.

However, the 3/4 day cruises should be profit makers for NCL. Short cruises tend to be more party oriented as people try to get 7 days of fun in to a 3-4 day cruise. Bar Revenue....Casino Revenue...Spa Revenue.....Specialty Restaurant Revenue.

The ship is also staying fairly close to MIA so there will be less fuel used.

IMHO the Pride of Aloha had the best looking hull art of the 3 Pride ships anyway.

Also, Besides the Hull Art the Pride of Hawaii got very little interior changes when converted to the Jade.

The cruises will be fun no matter what is on the side of the ship.
