wkelly5688 Posted September 8, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2008 We are sailing Dec 7th on Norwegian Pearl out of Miami and flying in on the 6th. Looking for advise on hotel accommodations and transportation from the airport to the hotel and then the ship, (cost effective or free shuttles and so forth. We typically stay at Holiday Inn type hotels. Any help would be appreciated. TIA Bill & Diane
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 8, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2008 While you will get good advice on this board I would also post this question on the Florida ports of call board. Keith
Rare silentbob007 Posted September 8, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2008 Many people like the Holiday Inn Port of Miami which is a short, $10 taxi-ride from the port. It is probably about a $25 taxi ride from the airport. You could also stay in a Miami airport hotel with a free shuttle to/from the airport and then look into transportation options to the ship ... which might include going back to the airport on embarkation day and taking a fixed-price cab from there. We are staying at a La Quinta Inn and Suites at 8730 NW 27th street. Got rate of 76 by calling a discount number. They have free shuttle to hotel from the airport, and cab fare is about $35 -$40 to the pier. We stayed there last year and it is not deluxe but is very safe and clean, breakfast included. If you decide to stay there we are looking to share a cab and split the $40 fare. Let us know if this works!
cb at sea Posted September 11, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2008 If you want something better than a Holiday Inn, the Intercontinental (which is run by Holiday, so you get priority points!) is right across from the port and it's gorgeous! Upscale and nice! In Miami, taxis are the way to go. Faster and relatively cheap--$24 or so from the airport to the port. The cabs have a set fee--unless they've really raised them, it's NOT $40! Let us know if this works! This is a pretty decent hotel, in a nice, pretty safe area in West Miami-Dade County, in a city called "Doral". You will be close to two very large shopping centers, (Miami International Mall as well as Dolphin Mall) and many restaurants such as Tony Romas, Shorty's BBQ, Red Lobster, Macaroni Grill, Long Horn Steak House, Pollo Tropical (Tropical Chicken), etc.
wkelly5688 Posted September 12, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted September 12, 2008 I appreciate everyone's help. We booked at the Intercontinental for $136 a night. Will probably do the taxi thing from the airport. Does anyone know if IC has a shuttle to the port? How about the Bayside Market Place? Is that walking distance? Is the area safe at night? Thanks Bill & Diane

No free shuttle to the Port of Miami, however a taxi should only cost you about $10.00 for the ride (not per person). Bayside is within walking distance of your hotel and the area is safe at night. It is considered a tourist area, therefore there is a lot of police presence in the area, with that being said, it is good to always be aware of your surroundings.:)
