Carlisle Bay again.....

Aplmac, You helped me this morning on another thread about trying to choose a beach

and here you go confusing me again with the beautiful pictures of your beaches in Barbados.

I just love your pictures. Thanks

Thanks for the kind words...

Don't go by pictures alone, okay?

Skilled photographers can "shoot around" the ugly stuff ;)

but even aside from that factor, we have so many nice beaches (like Antigua,too)..

that it can be difficult to select Any One Beach, huh?

so don't drive yerself crazy seeking the perfect beach

..coz even Bottom Bay which appears gorgeous in pictures

has the disadvantages of being quite remote, hard to find (even for some taxi drivers)

and very few amenities when you get there

thus by directing you towards either Hilton or Rockley Beach!

Aplmac, I think the Hilton might be the best deal for us since the 35.00 per person is supposed to include the chair, towel, lunch and a drink and clean facilities. I kind of figure we would probably spend that much anyway's and the pictures look wonderful thanks to you. I wish we could do a tour that includes the cave's, the animal preserve and the beach, but I don't think my husband is up to it at this time. I truely appreciate you taking the time to post since you have the experience of living on the island. You and your family must be very special people.

By all means do Hilton.

You really should like it, and they have a spacious beach. ;)

I took a few pics there the other day, when we had lunch...

This was our table..

..it's easy to grow bananas in your backyard, for food.

Bananas-394.jpg

This new bunch popped out, just two days ago

but seeing as we now have about 2-3 months of Dry Season ahead of us

there won't be a lot of moisture to help grow the fruit

so I probably won't get to eat these guys until June or July.

What you're seeing is the early 'pod'.

As those purple sheaths fall away, each one will reveal a 'hand' of tiny baby-bananas.

If things go well, I might get six or seven hands that'll actually 'take'

and after that, it's up to sheer moisture content to fill them out over the next few months

until they're ready. ;)

Now you know! :)

OMG - Okay, I'm going to this beach next month. This picture is too breathtaking. I went to Barbados in 2004 to Malibu Beach.....it was nice but too crowded. This picture seems so private....heaven on earth...ahhh.:):)

Which beach is this?

Thank you.

Which beach is this?
That beach is Rockley Beach

often referred-to by us locals ..as 'Accra'

due to the name of the Accra Beach Hotel on that beach.

It's on the South Coast of the island, about 3-4 miles away from the port

and it takes about 15-20 mins. to get there

depending on the traffic thru/around the main town.

I have yet to see an "ugly" beach anywhere in the world.

Guess I am just Lucky?

I don't go out of my way to take ugly pictures

but this shot of mine comes closest to 'an ugly beach'

GrandAnse-566.jpg

but I understand that you live miles away from any beaches at all

and therefore any tropical beach looks good to you :)

Taken last week at the cockspur beach club, the storm never made it to shore :)

The beach was empty!

Nah...that shower is a few miles offshore and heading away from the island

since it's already on the downwind side of us

Our weather here is fairly consistent in that it comes in from the East or North-East

and exits out to the West or S-West.

SemmerWeather-301.jpg

But during Summer months of Aug. to October ^ ^

it can (and does) sometimes go all 'back-to-front'

- those are months you guys are not likely to be here

since it's hurricane season, humid as hell, hot and sticky too.

You don't wanna be here during those months.

Heck I don't wanna be here...

Please take these signs along our East Coast seriously, okay?

Every 2 or 3 years we get someone who reckons he's a strong swimmer

(-often a German?)

who drowns on the East Coast somewhere. :(

It's easy to be all hot and sweaty halfway thru an island tour

and want to go for a dip, but it's not worth being swept out to sea by undertow

which is usually how it happens..

At LOW tide, the rock pools become evident,

and you can safely sit in them, up to your waist, and get splashy.

There are two other places where you can swim (a good bit deeper than a mere tidepool)

but you'd need someone like me a local, along with you

to point out the where's and when's...

Otherwise, Stay Out of our boisterous East Coast waters! -please.. ;)

Trust me...none of us were swimming. We were on a wonderful photography tour of the Scotland district with a photographer from Barbados.
