Looking one way...

Harrismith-799.jpg

and then the other..

Harrismith-798.jpg

This remote location is out on the South-East coast of the island

a bit harder to find than Bottom Bay just next door

-if you can believe that.

It's an entirely different access road

and then you gotta identify the track that jumps a curb

and takes you across some rough ground, towards the ruin of the old Harrismith House.

It took me some time to figure out how to get there -and I live here! ;)

Aplmac, thank you for sharing your beautiful photographs.

This was our first time to Barbados and we were uncertain where to go on our only day in port. Because of your photos we chose Lobster Alive which was perfect for us. Being from the rainy Northwest, we needed the big umbrellas for shade. The sand was soft, and the water amazing - so clear. My favorite beach day ever.

Later we spoke to cruise staff who enjoyed their day at the Boatyard Beach next door . . . jet skiing and playing beach volleyball. But the quieter Lobster Alive was a better fit for us.

In early 2010, I asked your advice for Rockley Beach verses Payne's Bay (as it turned out we did not go to either one.) At the time, you said you did not particularly like Payne's Bay. I am not a good swimmer and like calm water. We will be in Barbados again in March of 2012 and I wanted to recheck your opinion regarding these two areas. I love your pictures of Rockley and in them, the water looks fairly calm. I don't mind a little bob but I'm not real keen on waves. What do you think? We did try to go to the Boatyard in 2010, but they had no umbrellas left and we knew we could not take the sun all day so we ended up (I think) at Brandon Beach.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Here are some pics we took in Aug 2010. One of our best vacations ever.

This island is truly paradise...

The people here are among the friendliest I've ever met, and I love the food...

Thank you for sharing!

Always nice to see what visitors "see" and take photos of.

Glad you enjoyed our island so much.

Please come again sometime.

I finally made it to Shark Hole, over on the S-East coast of the island

(near CRANE...kinda..)

Heard about it all my life, but never actually knew where it is, or been to it.

I'm reliably informed that you should be careful swimming here

(if you can even find it!) -particularly at high tide

due to volume of wave-water forcing its way out of the enclosure

thus creating a one-way-only current.

On a peaceful low tide, I'm sure it's quite safe. "Read" the water! ;)

Hastings Beach..on the way to Hilton -in this direction..looking West

These pages of beautiful pic's of Barbados have to move forward. ===> Keep on bumping them!

Alpmac~ this year I will do my wish

and walk from Rockley Beach back to the Hilton. ===> Good exercise if nuthin else! ;)

Last time I went to Rockley Beach, I stayed and had a wonderful day with friends.

Rockley Beach is a great day ashore!

There's just about everything to be had, close at hand.

Showers, beach chairs and umbrellas, food and drink, taxis nearby,

-even the bus back to the ship passes right there...it's hard to beat!

Just be sure to ask someone which way back to Bridgetown,

so you don't end up at the airport instead!

Glad to hear you'll do (or did?) your walk from Rockley to Hilton.

You'll see a good chunk of our coastline that way.

Hastings Beach -looking the other way -East towards Rockley Beach and the boardwalk

Carry your camera, and sunglasses: our beach-sand is very light in color

and is hard on the eyes after awhile.

On our last stop, we walked from the ship through town, and all along Carlisle bay, then back onto the roads, and then along the beach again, all the way to Rockley Beach. We had a great time. Along the way, there was a KFC right on the beach, and they had free wi fi. It was a long walk, but we really enjoyed it. We had a flying fish sandwich and drink while at Rockley beach, then we headed back to the ship. It was a really nice walk. The beach is much prettier at Carlisle bay. Next stop, we will probably just walk to Carlisle bay, and get some chairs at Lobster Alive. We have done this before. We just love the beaches in Barbados!

These are pictures are from along our long walk!

This satellite view shows you half the area you covered on your walk from the Port to Rockley Beach.

Carlisle_Bay.jpg

It shows the Port area(upper left)

all of Carlisle Bay,

-right out to Needham's Point(lower right) where the Hilton is...

and even a tiny bit of the South Coast beaches, heading East (along the right btm. edge)

We were in Barbados in March on Celebrity Summit and loved it. Here are some shots from our Segway tour.
Nice pics!

Your first shot is taken at Gay's Cove, looking South.

Your middle shot is the blow-hole/s at Little Bay, less than a mile away from Gay's Cove.

Your last shot...well, you know what that is...

We were in the car on our way to Little Bay and there was a whole herd of Segways in front of us. The silliest thing we have ever seen. I know it must be fun and all but man did it look goofy. And then there was one guy trying to impress the ladies of the tour by stunt Segway riding on the hills and mounds of the beach. (Well at least as much "stunt riding" that you could do on a Segway.) Pretty funny stuff. This is not meant to offend anyone, just to let those involved know that they entertained us greatly.

Thanks for the identification! And, yup, I sure do know what the last shot is!

We've done Segway tours in several places and they are great fun! This tour in Barbados took us away from the roads and beach, so we got to see the view from higher up. It was definitely an experience I'd recommend.
