I see that Bottom Bay is about 14 miles from Bridgetown. How long would it take to get there? Would we be able to find a taxi to get back if a prearranged one doesn't show? Is there anything near Bottom Bay in the way of drinks and food? Thanks in advance

I see that Bottom Bay is about 14 miles from Bridgetown.

How long would it take to get there? ===> 45 mins. if he knows where he's going.

Would we be able to find a taxi to get back

if a prearranged one doesn't show? ===> Laughing Out Loud? It's remote. ;)

Is there anything near Bottom Bay in the way of drinks and food? ===> No.

MAYbe one of the local guys on the beach who sell bracelets/necklaces/trinkets

also has a few drinks in a cooler..

but don't quote me on that because I'm not at all sure!

Usually, the pre-arranged taxi thing works well if he tells you..

Don't Pay Me Now, pay me when I come back for you!

It's their way of reassuring you that they will be back.

We LOVE the Mullins area and have rented villas in St. Peter for 5 years:

looking out from the beach behind the Holetown police station. I think someone called it "surfside" for the beach pub there:

I bought a GoPro! :)

Got it in St.Maarten while on the cruise.

Here are a few first efforts.....

Great pictures, Mr. ALPMAC!

I picked one of those GoPro HERO cameras, too, plus I also got the Phantom quad copter to carry it aloft.

Phantom.JPG

I’ve only been successful once or twice with it. Most of the time I just trim the sea grape and crash.

My aero buddy did a successful 10 minute flight with it and the video is great.

The wonderful thing about the Phantom platform is that if you turn off the transmitter, or it loses signal, it returns to its starting point through GPS without any inputs from the pilot. Big plus for me!

The HERO is a great camera. Have fun with it! :)

Many thanks for the informative close-up shot of the quad-copter

and info about its "easy" lol operation. Never seen one, up this close!

Love the bit re. 'trimming the Sea Grapes' but I understand.

Helicopters of any kind are not easy to operate!

I got the GoPro Hero 3+ Silver

-cost me $400 for the basic camera package PLUS some accessories

and am now learning its capabilities, fiddling with various formats and settings.

That’s some very nice video, Mr. ALPMAC! You’re a lot further along on the learning curve than I.

I love the resolution and wide angle coverage of this camera, I was going to invest in a camera stabilizer for the Nikon D800 to shoot video but after looking at your video it looks like the Hero3 will do all that I need without image stabilization….in HIGH DEF, too!

I just looked and I did get the same model as you did, the Hero-3 silver:

phantom-ps.jpg

I picked it up in NY at B&H for about the same price as you got yours.

After looking at your video(s) I’m going to have to re-evaluate my usage of this wonderful, little camera!

Thanks for sharing! :)

You have the Hero3 Silver (you bought it last year?)

I have the Hero3+ Silver. (I bought mine Feb. 22nd. this year)

My max. resolution is 1080.

Mine's even smaller than yours. Mine will rattle around in your housing!

See comparison picture at

http://gopro.com/cameras/hd-hero3-silver-edition

under Read More(click on that link and the page/info expands

with a shot of your camera and mine, side by side.

The 3+ is slightly smaller, 20% smaller and 15% lighter GoPro reckons..

Yes, I bought it last year.

I always pay the price for being an early adopter!

That ‘+’ model is sweet! I had no idea that there was such a thing.

I’m going to check that '+' model out plus a 3-axis gimbal for it on the quad copter and put the (old) Hero3 on one of my fixed wing planes. Super!

Should justify the price with more flying time with the lower weight.

It just floors me that they can put that much camera in such a small package.

The thing rivals video from a Nikon DSLR even with that tiny little lens!

Amazing.

If your Silver 3 model is the first GoPro you've owned

there's no way you're an early adopter. :)

A few nights ago I did an image-search via BING

looking for the original GoPro camera

and it came up with an interesting assortment of pics

showing early "GPHero" and other cams.

I'm including a few of those pics below, as attachments.

I had no idea about those earlier models!

I bought the camera and the quad-copter as a package and never looked back.

They’ve sure come a long way!

Thanks for taking the time to dig out and post those pictures, I’m a little more knowledgeable now, however……

……I still like your GoPro Hero3+better…..Thanks for helping me spend my money!

LOL :D

Nothing more satisfying than spending other people's money! :)

I had no idea these forums existed. What a resource!

I'm seriously thinking about just taking the GoPro as a sole camera for travelling. I can get screen grab for stills in Adobe Lightroom 5.3 or even Photoshop CS6 and for most stuff it would be quite adequate.

Thanks for the bootstrap, Mr. Aplmac! :)

I think that looks very good!

Resolution and sharpness look good on the 32” monitor. The out of focus areas do fall apart as they should. Color saturation is quite good, too.

The thing that amazes me is that it appears so steady even being hand held. I can’t explain that except it must have to do with the extreme wide angle lens (apx 24mm?).

I think mine came with an underwater housing that I took off, but I may try that, too when we come back next January.

If I get some “good” video (first person crash video!) with this thing I‘ll post to this thread of yours for a professional critique. :)
