jenphan Posted February 12, 2009 #26 Share Posted February 12, 2009 i know you have found some solutions. i am only posting this as an emergency backup. i forgot my passport at home when i boarded ruby princess mid-jan to western caribbean, i had a copy of my passport and id + copy of my birth certificate. when i went to check-in, the copy of my passport & id was sufficient to allow me onboard. the passenger next to me showed the staff an expired passport, but was still allowed on board because the caribbean was considered as a domestic itinerary, so you should not have any trouble in canada. however, at US customs, don't give them a copy of your passport because they said i could get into trouble for that (its illegal to copy them) but luckily they let me off with a warning. hopefully you wont need to resort to this. RickEk Posted February 12, 2009 #27 Share Posted February 12, 2009 Wish me luck we sent off the information!! *crosses fingers Good luck, but do know that Princess will follow the US and Canadian government's ID requirements for that voyage... all you need is a State-issued picture ID and a certified birth certificate to travel on the Sea Princess roundtrip from San Francisco.... even after the June deadline. Starr Mtn Posted February 25, 2009 #34 Share Posted February 25, 2009 Hope I'm not duplicating what may have been suggesed above. My Mother had a similar problem when she tried to get her Social Security benefits. She didn't have the appropriate birth certificate. One of her older sisters was able to sign a form and have it Notarized. The form stated she was X number of years older than my Mother - and she could confirm that Mom was born on such a date, place. I would think something like that would suffice. Especially if there are other current documents available (eg: dr. license). And you have time to process the Passport application. Best wishes for success and a wonderful cruise.

2sunny Posted February 25, 2009 #39 Share Posted February 25, 2009 I am sure that it is a real PITA and also very frustrating but please keep plugging away to find enough items to satisfy the Passport Office and get your Passport and then be sure you never let it expire! It will be worth it once it is behind you - EVERY ONE should have a current passport you never know what the future will hold! Good luck and let us know how it goes! Starr Mtn Posted February 25, 2009 #40 Share Posted February 25, 2009 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!! His passport came!!!! What a freaking relief!!!! >>>>>>>>> Sorry I hadn't read everything before I posted.....but so happy that you reported back with the good news. Hopefully my suggestion may help someone else on how to file a form regarding the status of their birth. Just a cautious suggestion: Make a couple of copies of the first page of your passport (w/photo and information). Leave one copy at home with someone you can contact, and bring another copy with you. We always leave our passports in the safe in our cabin - but bring a copy on shore. We are quite aware a copy isn't the legal document - but it has a lot of information that may help you if you don't get back to the ship on time. That information may be of benefit if you need to fly to the next port, for instance.
krogerlady Posted February 25, 2009 #41 Share Posted February 25, 2009 Don't know what your ages are, so this might be a loooooong way off for you, but the suggestion to straighten out the birth certificate problem is something you might want to do while its fresh on your minds, because come time to retire, you have to prove how old your are, and the birth certificate is it. Good luck.
