cbrsandiego Posted February 23, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2009 If you were going to surprise someone with a cruise (Mexican Riviera), and you were going to make them an Easter basket to announce the vacation, what would you include? Travel size stuff, sunscreen, itinerary, what else?
sports-mom Posted February 23, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2009 Awww, what a nice gift! :) some things to add... Wacky (Kids) sunglasses & Sandals Champagne/wine & glasses coupons from carnival (if you can buy them) Hawaiian Shirts Disposable camera Photo album Mixers
Cruisenouvelle Posted February 23, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2009 How thoughtful! How about inexpensive mini binoculars (about 10-15 dollars), a little tube of Dramamine (just in case!), a lilttle bottle of pina colada mixer (if the person imbibes!), a travel guide, a pocket Spanish pronunciation guide, a roll of quarters for the casino slots, a pair of flip flops in the person's size... lots of possibilities. Hope you get to go on the cruise too!!! ;)

paul929207 Posted February 23, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 23, 2009 Throw in a good papeback to read on sea days.
sail7seas Posted February 23, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 23, 2009 Snall travel clock - many cabins do not have alarm clocks. Highligher pen to mark things on daily program he wants to do. Duct tape. What guy wants to leave home without a roll? :D So many uses. ;) Brochure of future cruises - in case he insists on booking your next cruise while aboard. :)
cbrsandiego Posted February 23, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted February 23, 2009 thanks so much to all! this will be our 4th cruise, and the first surprise one :)
zoethesailor Posted February 23, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 23, 2009 If it was my gift basket, I would have appreciated bug spray. As funny as it sounds, the little guys can get very hungry and it would have made my trip much more enjoyable! Oh, and maybe a hat.
Treven Posted February 23, 2009 #9 Share Posted February 23, 2009 Yes, thank you! It is for my husband :) Oh, how nice. I'll carry your suitcases if you let me come along. Oh, on second thought I'll pass. I've already been to the mexican riviera
Romy40 Posted February 23, 2009 #10 Share Posted February 23, 2009 Cruisenouvelle's idea about the binoculars is right on!! We never cruise without ours.
Northshorecruisers Posted February 24, 2009 #11 Share Posted February 24, 2009 Great idea!!! We are thinking of surprising someone to join us on our next cruise and I was just going to put docs in a Christmas card. How boring is that! I'll be making notes on the items suggested here and start picking up things for the basket. Thanks for starting this great thread. Please report back on your husband's reaction. Roadtripster Posted February 24, 2009 #12 Share Posted February 24, 2009 Make up a "do not disturb" doorknob hanger and put the info on that. Print off photos from online from the ports you are thinking about and buy a dollar store photo album to put them in. Bottle of champagne Poppers/streamers that they used to use when you first set sail. Some thing that obviously says Bon Voyage. What a great fun suprise. Let us know what you do. Iluvmypuggle Posted February 24, 2009 #13 Share Posted February 24, 2009 How about rum runners if you haven't already purchased them :) If you're trying to tie in the Easter theme, maybe you could put a fun fact about the ship and/or the ports in those little plastic Easter Eggs. notentirelynormal Posted February 24, 2009 #14 Share Posted February 24, 2009 How about some Mexican pesos for the expenditures on shore?

I like that idea. Also, a disposible waterproof camera would be a nice addition. Too bad you couldn't get one of the "chocolate ships" to include. Am not sure if you can order them to be sent to you from Carnival, but it would be worth asking. granny:cool:

timeforadaiquiri Posted February 24, 2009 #17 Share Posted February 24, 2009 How about Immodium AD? Might come in handy....
dot73 Posted February 24, 2009 #18 Share Posted February 24, 2009 If you still have money left over after filling the basket, get him an onboard credit for him to splurge on anything he wants on the ship.
llamola Posted February 24, 2009 #19 Share Posted February 24, 2009 Did one for my son. I included band-aids/ Nite-lite (interior cabin)/ room freshener and TUMS....
Trevoli Posted February 24, 2009 #20 Share Posted February 24, 2009 I would NOT include Immodium AD in the basket. Take it with you, for sure (that stuff is worth its weight in GOLD), but don't put in the basket. Nobody wants to be reminded of anything bad that might happen to them. Same with bug spray, bandages. Maybe you could pre-arrange a couples massage, and make up a fun coupon for that. Attach it to some massage oil.
Northshorecruisers Posted February 25, 2009 #21 Share Posted February 25, 2009 Trevoli - great idea!!! Couples massage is great!! You could always pre-purchase a dinner in the specialty restaurant and enclose the confirmation in the gift basket.
Iluvmypuggle Posted February 25, 2009 #22 Share Posted February 25, 2009 I love everyones ideas.. I hope to one day get a surprise cruise basket (with a cruise of course). Let us know your husband's reaction when you give him the gift!
2sunny Posted February 25, 2009 #23 Share Posted February 25, 2009 Yes, thank you! It is for my husband :) YOU are a GREAT wife!!! I agree with what everyone else has already said. If he enjoys quiet and reading (like my DH) a paperback or two, might be a good idea. The rolls of quarters are a wonderful idea. Does he need a new bathing suit? I always recommend Gift Certificates from the cruise line. You can buy them over the internet and print them right out yourself! Perhaps a pre-paid credit card in a plastic Easter Egg? Obviously others have given you lots of great ideas also. I wish you a wonderful, wonderful cruise!
cbrsandiego Posted February 25, 2009 Author #24 Share Posted February 25, 2009 Some great ideas. I will be sure to visit after Easter and let you know his reaction.
docBarb Posted February 25, 2009 #25 Share Posted February 25, 2009 My husband and I always take can and bottle coozies (the insulated covers) and get asked by many people "where did you get those?" They are always dissapointed when we say we brought them from home. Put these in the basket and he will be the envy of the ship!!
