From the Caribbean to Canda?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I have to honest, and until have not considered any cruises to Canada or New England. Because of pricing and convenience though now, I'm looking at one on Explorer in early September. We've only been on three cruises, but they've all been to warm, tropical ports. Will I feel cheated on a northern cruise? I have to say, I'm more of the mind set that no cruise is bad & I'm not inclined to complain about food or little things. I was just wondering if you still get the cruise "feel" as much or since the ports will look more "like home", will it feel more like a road trip. Just wondering...

Thanks!

Personally, I vacation in warm-weather spots because I love the pools and beaches. Going north is NOT an option, for me.

I have no desire to "sightsee". I want to relax on a beach, or by the pool, read and drink!

For me, being on a cruise is only worth it if it's warm. The weather is what I cruise for--not simply for being on a ship!

I agree 100%. Someday I might want to take an Alaskan cruise, but now is not that day. To me, cruises need to go somewhere with palm trees and beaches for it to count.

Hi, fellow Pennsylvanian.

We have done two Canada/New England cruises, and loved them both. They aren't "beach & resort" cruises, but they were wonderful in their own right.

I love the Explorer, and would jump on a C/NE Explorer cruise in a heartbeat, particularly since we can drive there!

I'm in the great white north, Montreal Quebec to be specific. I wouldn't ever think of actually cruising to this part of the world, I spend enough time wishing i were in the south, never mind paying for a cruise to find out I was right. For sure there are some beautiful things to see and fun things to do but it's really not the same. My DH & I took an Alaskan cruise a few years ago, the cruise was great but we didn't get the feel that we had actually rested and relaxed, it's just different, we're both glad we did it but not in a hurry to try it again & I honestly think I'd have the same feeling about an east coast cruise, unless you were lucky enough to hit perfect weather & I'm not even sure when you'd be best to schedule it, you're likely to need some sort of wet weather gear a good part of the time, so i'd say unless you're getting an amazing deal, stick with the warmer points south.

All that being said, the worst day on a cruise is better than the best day at work, IMHO ;)

We took Explorer in Sept 2008 out of Bayonne, excuse me Port Liberty, on a new cruise. We were scheduled to go to Newport RI, but Newport was cancelled due to tendering problem on Labor Day weekend. New London,Ct was scheduled as the replacement, great for us as I grew up in Ct and have cousins and a sister that still live there.

We drove up from Fla, don't think I would do that again, found the Port very disorganized, you put your bags on the cart and then Porters expected to be tipped.

New London was great, Coast Guard was everywhere, helicopters and high speed rafts with guns and person on the guns. Repoted to be biggest cruis ship ever in CT. Townspeople very friendly, interviewed by local paper etc.

Next stop Halifax NS, then St Johns NF and on to Bar Harbour, Portland and Boston. The only thing we noticed was that ship seeemed to be to big for those ports. Esp New London and Bar Harbour. Casino was a problem with so many walkers in the aisle
