Time spent at ports.... Less than other lines...

Recommended Posts

Oh no?! Guess you didn't see this previous post, is this sufficient to 'warrant' the comment, lol?!

Examples:

RCI: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico 8:00 AM 7:00 PM

CCL: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico 10:00am 10:00pm

RCI: Philipsburg, St. Maarten 9:00 AM 5:00 PM

CCL: St. Maarten, NA 7:00am 5:00pm

RCI: George Town, Grand Cayman 8:00 AM 4:00 PM

CCL: Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands 7:00am 4:00pm

No,I saw it....

But 3 examples, out of hundreds of possibilites, for a TOTAL of 4 hours between

the three,2 being at one port.....Does not qualitfy as an injustice...

You must be kidding me?! If you have time, go at it! I'm not going to go thru EACH and EVERY cruise, you gotta be kidding me!! I'm sure that there are a lot more examples, even others have noticed this. And who said anything about 'injustice'? You sound like a drama Queen/King!

I am wonderig as well if it has do do with port charges. On our upcoming cruise we depart Lanzarote a 5pm to arrive in Tenerife the next morning. There is very little distance between the islands and it would be nice to have longer on land when you arrive at a destinaition, I have noticed as well that we depart Tenerife at the same time to head for a sea day. It made me wonder whether Spanish authorities charge based on the number of hours your are in Port and thet RCI was maximising on its's savings.

As far as Cozumel - Perhaps they've had to have one too many semi-comatose passengers drug out of Carlos and Charlies at 10 PM? If most reputable places are closing at 5 pm, why hang around?

On the Navigator - April 6th - why we have to leave Cozumel at 6pm in order to get to Belize the next morning. Come on now - I can swim faster. But - the casinos will be open and the machines will be chinging into RC pockets.

This is starting to make more and more sense...

Less time in port + more time on ship = more $$$$ for Royal!

Gee, why didn't you just come out and make this claim at the beginning instead of playing the I wonder why game?

You really work too hard to stir things up. It is a lot easier just to say what you mean in the first place, then others can figure out that the discussion isn't an actual discussion in the first place. Instead people feel obligated to explain something to you that you already have your mind made up about. Which wastes their time. JMHO.

I never gave it much thought but ....

I can tell you that I picked my next cruise, yes with Carnival because the ship is in Cozumel from 8am until 10pm. I have plenty of time to spend time on a beach, shop, and enjoy a bit of night life. What Royal ship has that long of a stay in Coz?

When we were in St Thomas in January, there was a Carnival ship in port when we arrived and still there when we left.

I dont think it has anything to do with cut backs though and ripping off the cruise line customers. Its just how they do their itineraries.

Why not, if you want to accurately portray the situation? You are the one implying some sort of trend. Choosing three itineraries out of hundreds and only being able to come up with a difference of an hour or two in those three ports is hardly convincing evidence of whatever it is that you are trying to prove. While I agree that one should pay attention to the number of hours you will spend in port on your cruise, the three instances that you site would certainly not cause me to choose most Carnival ships over Royal Caribbean.

I said that I've NOTICED. Does that mean that I go thru each and every port?! Of course not! Funny, others feel the same way, the RCI appear to be in port less....! I'm not asking you to choose one line over another, it was just AN OBSERVATION! Sheesh! Guess you're the only one entitled to have an opinion or thought....

When I book a cruise I do not decide which one on the amount of 'port time'. I do care about what ports are listed but I arrange my day according to the lenght of stay in each port. Who cares about an hour or 2 less in one port compared to other cruise lines, you're on vacation for crying out loud.

Another point about 'more money on board' for RCCL. Yeah, right, RCCL MAKES you spend money while on board, as far as I know we still have the choice of how, when and on what we spend our money on aboard ship.

we havent noticed this...a little like other have mentioned...we had a lot of time in Cabo when we went there with RC but with Princess recently we were gone by 2pm...I dont think that across the board the time is shorter...maybe on a couple itineraries
It could be. The less time in port means the more time for traveling. The more time for traveling means a lower speed can be used. A lower speed means less fuel used. Less fuel used is money saved.
And on top of that, more money spent ON the ship!
I've noticed that RCI stays at port on an average less than other lines, is this part of their cost-cutting efforts?
I've noticed many cruise lines are shortening their time in port. Not only Royal. Let's face it, the ships bring in more revenue when they are out at sea rather than being docked.

On our recent Explorer cruise Feb/09 out of 4 ports we arrived after the other ships and left before the other ships. On a fifth port we did stay until 11:00 but that was do to damage to propeller they tried to fix.

Hi,
We are sailing on the explorer July 9th and they are changing our intinerary. I'm thinking it is due to the propeller damage you are talking about. Do you have any information about how your intinerary was changed and the propeller damage. Your help is appreciated.

negc and xpcdoojk, as you can see by other responses, I'm not the only one that noticed the port times, i.e., RCI vs. other lines... sorry for asking such a 'stupid' question or making such a 'dumb' comment... BTW: Are you guys related or twins? Just wondering...

I've been dissapointed on my last two cruises in Cozumel that we haven't been able to take the Sunset Catamaran after an earlier excrusion. It does seem like they are leaving Cozumel earlier than than they did a few years ago. I don't know why though.
