It'd be interesting to gather here and find out how many of us who live on the LEFT Coast - CA, OR, WA... who love to cruise and how often - and when you have completed a cruise, do you then plan another one as a ritual - I DO. Corkey Carol

Hi corkey, fancy meeting you here!

This time I'm doing it different. We're cruising from the right (wrong:confused:) coast in 10 days. Can't say I'm crazy about all the air logistics etc. to get to FLL----especially since we're a few miles from both San Pedro And Long Beach Cruise terminals. Yes, we're planning another----this time to Alaska. At least that's somewhat on the Left Coast!

Welcome Ed - we haven't been to FL to sail to the Caribbean in about 5 yrs - we've been doing TA's that arrive in Miami tho' - and have now been leaving out of NJ - do enjoy Miami ... hate the air requirements too - esp now that we have to pay for luggage.

Hi Carol..

Az may not be the west coast yet but someday it is suppose to be..:)

All kidding aside I have the Radiance planned to Cabo in Sept. Next year the Oasis in Oct but may change dates if we even go. Am still looking at early 2010. Will be doing Mariner in 2011. I like to have a few cruises booked. It gives me a reason to get up and go to work and love communicating with new posters on CC and getting to know them.

Have gone to Florida 2 times and it is so tiring and expensive. We soooo loved driving to San Pedro, staying at the Doubletree, and will never forget our Mariner cruise in Feb and the Acapulco Rest. I notice so many Roll Calls are going to the Acapulco now pre-cruise MR.

I have a feeling we will be doing MR mostly due to convenience and of course Gene's problems with dizziness after flying then getting on a cruise ship.

Hi Laura - hopefully this thread will take off too - hopefully!!

Yes, I love the convenience of driving to San Pedro - plus we love Long Beach and the surrounding areas - and also the chance to visit relatives.

I would really LOVE to have more sailings from SF - so convenient for us.

I am looking forward to our April 2011 Mariner - and like you, I have to look forward to some cruises or Carol isn't a happy gal - and when Carol is happy, our household is bright and cheerful and Everyone is happy!!

Haven't done the Mexican Riviera yet. Really looking forward to just a 2 hour flight to Seattle in June. :D Our shortest yet. On our last cruise, we had a person on our role call in San Juan, PR. He got a screamin' deal on Caribbean Princess. Then just before the cruise, which was overbooked, he was offered a booking 2 months later and a credit for a future cruise. Must be nice to live near a port.

Even living 6-7 hrs from Las Vegas-San Diego and LA I am happy. Phoenix location is nice for that reason. Always am happy for anyone getting a great deal though for a cruise.

Our shortest flight was from Phx to LV usually 55 mins the pilot made in under 30 mins (pilot warned us they needed to get there fast and he did)...no drinks. I could handle flying more if they were short like that. The cross country ones are killers.

You said it Laura - I hated the flight from SF to NJ for our Explorer cruise 3 weeks ago - even tho' it was a straight flight to get there - then coming home, we had one stopover in Ohare, delayed one hr... all that flying time coast to coast - now we have to pay for luggages and make sure the wt is within the limit to avoid more charges...

So yes, I hope we can do more west coast cruising -

You'll love the Mexican Riviera, especially if you go on the Mariner as Laura and I just did 2/22/09 for the inaugural sailing. Enjoy your future cruises... do you do much from Seattle? as far as going to Alaska? Carol

Hi All. This is our first cruise from Seattle. But the being able to fly there on Southwest for $400 for both of us is making me think we'll go again in the future. We were actually planning a road trip to Seattle for 2 weeks, and then saw a cruise for the same price. :D

Worst flight - I couldn't figure why so many people paid $100 or more for a "day room" in Tahiti. So on our last day, we went sightseeing in HUMID Tahiti all day, and got on the plane at midnight. I felt so miserable on the 8 hours home - hard to describe, but definitely needing a shower.

Good morning all West Coasters and even those close enough.:D Carol at the rate we are moving North, Palm Springs could be in San Fran in a couple 1,000 yrs. or we will have Beach front property.

I hope also we will gain more Cruisers, it is wonderful to have a thread that keeps going.

Always wanted to go to Tahiti but the Humidity scares me - I always feel like I am choking! and when you are showering in humid weather, it's as if you never cool off even tho' water temp is cold cold!! Carol

Friends from our very 1st Cruise in 2002, did 2 or 3 Tahiti Cruises and I have always thought of doing one. I think what deters us is the long flight over and back. Now unless we could manage that 30 day Australia on Princess, back to Los Angelas, that would take care of the long flight back.

You are close enough!! carol

Thanks. Now I really feel welcome..lol

Tahiti and I would not do so well together it sounds like.

I would not mind even doing a cruise up the west coast ... San Francisco and Seattle. Do they have those?

Maybe start in San Diego and stop in LA and up the coast. Would that not be cool to have an overnight in SF and Seattle both and then back to SD or LA? I would do that in a heartbeat. Maybe they don't do those because the casino would have to be closed while at port all that time.

Hi Everyone! What a great thread! My DH and I have taken 2 cruises (we got a late start, but are loving it!) Both to Alaska, one leaving from Vancouver and one from Seattle, just a 20 minute drive from our house! This September we will be doing the Panama Canal on the Infinity and good news, we leave from Seattle!!! We end up in Ft. Lauderdale and are staying there for a day. I'm really not looking forward to that cross country flight -been there, done that - NOT fun. But we just have to fly one way. The best part is not having to worry about the flight being on time to make the ship, I have heard many, many stories. I don't care if the flight is delayed, I'm just going home!

We would sure love more cruises out of Seattle besides Alaska. Its beautiful there, but we need a change sometimes!

Happy cruising all

Melody:D

Arizona they have what they refer to as Pacific Northwest cruises, they sell out faster then they get them online. Their March 2010 from Vancouver to San Diego is sold out.

The Radiance sails from Vancouver BC, Nanaimo, Victoria, Seattle, Astoria, oregon,SF, Catalina island, San Diego , 10 Nights. I might look into that one if we can't manage one I am looking at for the Fall of 2011.

Melody, good afternoon welcome to our thread. We live in So Calif & I got acquainted with Carol thru our California thread.

Found you! I know Carol and Gay already, my DH Carl and I live in Escalon which is not quite 2 hours in either direction to San Francisco or Yosemite and about an hour under Sacramento.

I saw that you guys were talking about Tahiti. My dad used to own his own catamaran and has sailed down in the South Pacific several times. I just wished I could have joined him on a trip or two. He, also, used to try to get us to fly to Puerto Vallarta so that he could pick us up and have us hang out on the boat as he cruised up and down the Mexican Riviera coast line. Had too many kids at home for that back then!

I'm getting ready to leave in 3 weeks on a Mexican Riviera cruise on the Mariner from San Pedro. We have a great rollcall going. We are doing a Poker Cabin Crawl and a Slot Pull Tournament. Sounds like fun!

Gotta go fix dinner now, ugh! :)

I know there are cruises that start in San Diego but go on to Ak - I wanted to do the AK one again in 2010 but it seems like the route starts from Vancouver and ends in San Diego - I will pass SF - didn't make sense to me to go all the way down to San Diego then fly back to SF when I am already there - cruises start in SF for AK but those are on Princess - Celebrity does an SF to AK and you return to SF by flying from Vancouver. It's an older Celebrity ship, the Infinity. I just have to do more homework and search ships/cruiselines/destinations if I want to do a left coast route. Of course there will always be the Mexican Riviera ones! Carol

Hi Carol..... AZ is close enough to the left coast, easy drive or just a 45 minute flight. Having the Mariner is very nice, Radiance too coming in September!

I agree this could be a great thread.

Hi LInda:

I love that the Radiance is coming to San Diego - it's a longer drive for us since we are so used to going to San Pedro for the Mexico bound ships. Oh! like Laura says, you two are close enough to be Left Coast folks! it's not that far from where you both are!

I hope more folks who travel from and along the left coast come in and share their experiences with all of us. Carol
