We are going on the Victory this coming Sunday - YIPEE!! I emailed Levi for the Bumpiing Tours in Dominica, he was very responsive and helpful on email, quoted prices, where to meet etc. He said for us to pay at the end of the tour with cash

Hello all,

 

We recently booked on the 10/4 sailing and I have been reading this thread to get up to speed on the ship and ports. I cannot thank you all enough for the wealth of information. And a thousand thank you's to Aplmac and Beentravelin for the truly awesome pics.

 

Cool avatar Aplmac. If someone had a pic of the craps table... I would make that my avatar. :D

 

One topic I don't recall reading about is the cruise director. So what's the scoop? I know it is their job to sell excursions, but how intrusive was the selling?

Our drill last week was at 9:30. There were some folks arriving very late due to plane delays. Dinner was long over and right after drill the deck party was starting. They won't serve you dinner if you arrive after 8:30. No matter what.

 

It is $20 to pier from airport plus $1 for each bag. Tons of taxis lined up, just follow the procedure and get your slip. One of our CC buddies got scamed by a not taxi person near taxi stand. He paid about $35 and driver dumped him about a block from hotel. Told him the hotel entrance was around the corner. Beware.

 

We did Best Tour with Levi. It was cut short due to traffic tie up at Falls. We waited about an hr. to even get up the hill. So only 20 min for snorkeling at Reef and no Mr. Nice fruit stand.

Wee Jimmy is the CD. He does a wonderful job and he never once mentioned an excursion.

Wee Jimmy left for a 3 month vacation at the end of our cruise. I don't know who the replacement is. We talked with Wee Jimmy at airport. Also the Captain is on a 6 month vacation. This was the first cruise ever that the Captain was so visible. He was laying on lounge everyday on Lido and attended the nightly entertainment, casino, and Disco. Our CC friend sat next to him on Lido two days and had great fun. He too was skiiping SJ at airport. Talked to a lot of the guests there also.

If there is more than one ship in Port at Dominica when you get there

know that the road to Trafalgar Falls is going to be jam-packed with tour-vans!

 

As these folks discovered, it wasted a precious hour of their limited time ashore

-not to mention the severe overcrowding on that skinny lil mountain road that curled even my hair

...and I live and drive all the time in these islands! ;)

 

 

Wife and I have resolved to never do Trafalgar again.

OK maybe maybe if there's just the one ship(ours) in, that day. Maybe...

 

 

 

Trafalgar's a nice enough spot when you get there, great falls..

but it's the Getting There that is more-often-than-not..arduous!

 

 

I'm real sorry now that I didn't take more pics of the traffic situation.

The only one I have is this, which shows a very small portion of the goings-on!

This is the car park at the Falls terminal. This is the sane bit! :D

 

There's dozens more vans parked down the narrow winding road, waiting to get up.

I now realize we were fortunate to get there early

..we only waited maybe 5 mins. if that.. at the very last bend

just before the car park you see here !
