We did a 12 pack of Corona by putting each bottle in a pair of his socks, wrapping in a plastic bag and shoving into his shoes, beach towels and jeans. Worked fine.

He musta had six pairs of shoes!! LOL :D

You had none break? Wow.

Good Question. I've already figured out how to smuggle beer in in cans. DH is the beer man, and he like the OP DH really only likes it on bottles. Im afraid they'll get broken too. I plan to use a coke case box for smuggling in cans. Thought we might save a few bucks. But on the other hand,I told DH if he wanted draft or bottles, he was going to have to start his own beer fund, lol.:)

Let us know if you do smuggle in bottles and how that works for you. I like the sock idea, but DH aint taking 6 pairs of shoes. lol He plans to take 3 pair. :)

DON'T smuggle glass bottles! The reason they sell only cans or put it in a plastic cup is to keep glass shards from between your toes! Please keep all glass at home. If taking liquor put in plastic or buy in plastic. Please!

The beer he purchased onboard was always served to him in its original glass bottle.

They also serve soda in glasses, and they're just as easily reduced to shards as bottles.

The last 2 cruises I have been there were no glass bottles that were handed to anyone, no "glass" glasses.. ALL plastic (with the exception of the dining room). In fact except for a couple of "imported" beers all were in either plastic bottles or cans...

Well, they were on the 4/5 Splendor...

I would never try glass again after a bad experience with a glass bottle of tequila.... we do fine with plastic bottles of everything. Can you find the beer you want in those plastic bottles that they use at sports events and stuff? .... or what about those special air packs they use if you buy bottles coming on or off the ship... I just think plastic might be easier...

I agree it would be easier LOL. Unfortunately, the kind he drinks is only served in glass.

Bobsfamily. You must have just not seen the glass. And the reasoning doesn't fly as they serve soft drinks in glass.

Misty.... Are we turning into smugglers now? We seem to keep meeting up at these smuggling threads....

We are probably going to load up on tube socks and bring a bottle or two of belvidere and I am definitely bringing 2+ bottles of Baileys for my wife as she has found a love for this stuff lately (she never drank much in the past, and now its like an IV!!!! :D )

Smuggle away my friends, tube socks and freezer bags should work just fine in all cases....

On one of our prior cruises, we flew in the night before. And part of our pre-cruise partying, we bought beer, water, snacks. As we were packing for embarkation, we had a handful of beer leftover and weren't sure what to do with it. So rather than leave it in the hotel, we decided to throw it into our gear and see what happened. We didn't care if we were caught or not, since we just assumed we would be.

I have this really cool backback that has a zip-on/off cooler on the bottom (for lunch or whatever). We take it on all our cruises. Anyway, I threw the beers into the cooler section of this backpack and low and behold.... it made it thru without any problem. I was shocked!

Not sure I would go thru the trouble, in the future, to smuggle glass-bottle beer onto the ship again. But knowing it IS possible is kinda cool.

Exactly what are you trying to smuggle? Are you sure it doesn't come in aluminum? Sometimes cans are just for the asking/ordering from a local liquor store. My suggestion would not be "tube socks"; but maybe some bubble pack. Believe it or not - I always take a lighted makeup mirror on cruises and pack it in bubble pack and (knock on wood) so far so good. Chick.

Smuggling beer in glass bottles is too much work AND possible breakage problems for the $ savings IMHO.

Smuggling beer in cans gives you beer not worth drinking.

I understand the whiskey smugglers, haven't a clue about beer smugglers.

About the serving aboard of glass or not,

EVERYONE WAS RIGHT

There are no glass bottles, or glasses, served on the LIDO DECK. Or around any pool area. The bars and lounges elsewhere on the ship DO serve drinks and beer in GLASS!

AH - I don't think I've gotten a beer anywhere else but Lido.... casino drinks were in something as I usually was not worried about the drink... lol

Yup - they even pour the Corona into these strange looking plastic contraptions. DOD and other drinks all served in plastic cups on Lido. Big no-no having glass in pool areas.

I can think of a few beers that come in cans, but no decent beers in plastic that I know of. Plastic breathes and can introduce oxidation, so it makes a poor choice for ales that can stand up to aging. Here are a few craft beers that might help dispel the can=crap stigma. Pour these into a glass to avoid the tinny taste from the lip of the can.;)

Sea Hag Ale

Brooklyn lager

Sly Fox beers (pale ale, Pils, dunkel lager)

Pilsner Urquell

Surly Brewing company beers

Fat Tire Amber Ale

Old Chub

Dale's Pale Ale

Gordon's ale

Guinness

Boddington's

Beamish

Find a good beer store and ask if they can get some of these.
