Thought I had decided Wyndham over Cabbage...now??

We had made the decision to spend the day at Wyndham but I have now seen pics of Cabbage beach and it looks unreal.

Anyone done both who could give a little guidance?

It depends on what you are looking for. Cabbage Beach is just a long stretch of beautiful beach.. Sometimes pretty rough.. there are not amenties, no restrooms, bar/ grill/ snack stands or lifeguards.

You can rent a chair from the locals.. and some locals sell rum drinks from thier cooler. Lots of locals selling t shirts, hairbraiding and even drugs..

Lots of Jetskis' and other motor boats in the area.. Very active beach.

It's nce..

Wyndham is a resort.. the sheraton beach next door is really VERY nice.

There are pools, slides, waterfalls, swim up bars, bar and grill, beach and poolside service, daiquari shack, dj, restrooms, casino, ice cream, souveniers and LIFEGUARDS. Only a handful of vendors on the beach.

Jet ski's are controlled on the sheraton beach.. and the swimming area is roped off for safety.

It depends on what you want from your day in the sun. I personally enjoy both.. sometimes I want to relax with a cool drink and a restroom nearby.. and sometime I don't mind roughing it a bit.

This is really helpful. I've been to Wyndham a few times and liked it. I am taking my sister and 3 teenaged boys.

If the beaches are both pretty, it seems like maybe Wyndham would be better it just appears to me that Cabbage has a far prettier beach.

I think my sister would NOT like all of the selling on the beach...and, to be frank, I don't love the idea of access to anything illegal for the teens.

Since they will be legal to gamble and that's big for them, I guess I'll stick with Wyndham so that they can hit the casino.

I was in Nassau on Thursday. We decided to go to Cabbage Beach. We were there early and it was not very crowded but definitely filled up as the day went on. It was a lot of hustle and bustle so not very relaxing but the water was gorgeous! The locals definitely asked about chairs, umbrellas, drinks, hair braiding, dresses and jewelry. I got approached probably every 5 minutes and that's not an exaggeration (sp?). All you need to do is politely say no thank you and they move on, they were not intrusive whatsoever.

We went to the Sheraton last week on our cruise, and I am so glad that we rented the room here instead of going to the wyndham for the day. The sheraton property is MUCH nicer than the Wyndham in my opinion. We walked over to the wyndyam so that the kids could use the slides, and they were not even working. A guy there said that they were having a sewer problem. The pool at the sheraton was sparkling clean, and the beach was practically empty.

We got a day room for $99 for four people (kids are both under 12). The room was on the ground level and about ten steps from the pool. The sheraton actually has about four pools with waterfalls, and a zero entry area. We had lunch right on the beach, and a very relaxing day.

Taking the #10 jitney was a piece of cake. We walked a couple of blocks, and then it took about 15-20 minutes to get to Cable Beach. The stop is right in front of the hotel. It was $5 for the four of us.

I am really interested in the day room at Sheraton. Problem is we have 5 people and to get two rooms would cost us the same as Wyndham with lunch. However, I guess having the room is what you pay for.

I agree that Wyndham is dated but I have always liked it.

How did you book your room??

We were at the Wyndham/Sheraton a few weeks ago- did the $40 day pass and felt the buffet lunch at the Seaside was well worth the price.

We spent the day at the Sheraton - felt the pools were very nice and the beach area good.

Have fun and let us know what you decide and how it was.

I think I would enjoy the Wyndham with my family, what are the rates, and do you book ahead? I will be there July 16th, Thursday. How do I get there from the port? How far? Any age restrictions? My youngest is 10. Thank you so much Scubagirl! You are the best!

The wyndham is $40 pp and it includes a buffet lunch at the seaside cafe near the casino. Kids under 3 are free.. Same price for children.

You go to the front desk to get your passes.. no booking ahead of time.

You can either take a cab (about $5 pp).. or hop on the #10 jitney from downtown on George Street (just ask the locals.. it's close by).

The jitney's run every few mintues and cost $1.25. Just tell them you want to stop at the wyndham.. reverse to get back.. they stop running around 6:30/7pm.

How is the ocean water at the beach there, is it crystal clear and calm surf? Is there a rocky bottom, or sandy? How about seaweed? Should we take water shoes? Once again I thank you!

The beach at Wyndham is a shallow lagoon and is a bit rocky;.. but next door is the sheraton beach. (which is really very close as you can't really tell where one starts and the other ends). The sheraton Beach has a sandy bottom .. and is quite calm.

Generally speaking.. all of Cable Beach is calm and sandy.

Can you book at the sheraton? Or just the Wyndham? I want the water slides and floats most importantly, so which is the best way to go? Thank You!

Either.

Wyndham has a day pass that includes lunch at the seaside buffet $40pp.

Sheraton has a day room for 2 ppl for $99. Does not include lunch. (you can add 2 add'l persons for $10 each. )

They are sister properties.. so you can use either.

Both are available same day.

Wyndham is CLOSED from August 17 - Oct 5th. So the pool and slide will not be open at that time.

Via NCL....

Seems like we got to Nassau a little bit late and got to get off the boat, but still a little late. We had no tours/excursions planned. We fig'd we'd walk around and then go back to the pier, change into our suits and then head to cabbage beach. NCL's dock was the farthest on the port and was FOREVER away. Especially for a pregnant woman in flip flops, with blisters (take blister band-aids!). So we saw the water taxi and just went ahead and rode it across to paradise island, headed to cabbage beach. But before that, we did hit the straw market and let me tell ya, it's the same crap in a different aisle. If you've seen one aisle (or even one set-up?) you've seen it all. The ladies are forward, but appreciate a nice "just looking, thanks".

Okay, so onto the ferry - it was a nice ride. It cost us $1 less pp than the taxi cab. But we couldn't find cabbage beach without a TON of walking and asking for directions. Should have just taken the taxi. We ended up right beside the end of the resort and the beach was to die for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DH got $20 coconut drink (all you can drink) but recall - there's no bathroom facilities and we had on no swimsuits, so it was about as much as DH's bladder could handle. It was Hawaiian punch and maybe vodka? Idunno....

When I got onto the beach, the locals offered lounge chairs set up anywhere we'd like (2 for $20) and we said no thanks. Then he offered 2 for $15 so we decided to stay for a bit.

Water was clear, beach was a little crowded, but if you walked a bit, you could see that it was less crowded.

Beach appeared non-rocky and PERFECT, but walk down was rocky. Take a cab, pay the extra $1pp! Spare yourself the embarrassment of getting lost!

The cab ride back was HORRIBLE. The driver was wreckless and even his little closeness alarm on his van was beeping. Yowza. We about got killed a ton of times, but I guess that's the norm! LOL

Will probably be posting pics later tomorrow!

Let me know if you have any ?s!

Dude, the cab ride can be horrible but worth it. And being 6 mos. pregnant, the walk was far. You figure it out on your own.

Never will know the pregnant part... although have had the experience of my wife being that way twice... can be beautiful but WOW the mood swings.. lol

I was joking with you as you said take a cab but it was horrible. I have ridden in many cabs in the Bahamas and generally just talk to my wife and ignore what is going on outside... you should try Panama.

Hey were you in nassau this past saturday if so we were too! And I took a pic of NCL when we passed by on the water taxi headed over to paradise island. We were gonna go to cabbage beach after we viewed the aquarium at atlantis. We paid the $35 at this store that sits to the right as you come in the marina village. So we didn't have a tour guide person we were on our own. I realized that if we would have waited until we were inside of atlantis to pay for the dig then we would have had one. But it was totally ok because when we came out of the dig we were right in front of their pool and beach area. Although we were able to view their grounds we werent supposed to have access to the pools nor their beach. But we were curious to see how far we could go before anyone would say anything. Guess what!, they didn't. So we made our way over to the area where they have the kayaks and the bicylcles with the huge colorful wheels on them. And one of the guys who worked their asked if we needed any towels and we said yeah and he brought us some. He told us the prices of the kayaks and the bicycles but we didn't ride any of those we just went and got in the water and sat on the big cirlce things that were in the water. Then my sister wondered what was on the other side because she saw people over that way. And she went to see and low and behold their was more beach on the other side but we were still inside of atlantis because they had a security lady standing their too but she didnt say anything to me and my sisters i guess because we had their towels wrapped around us. But as my mom and rest of our family was coming up she stopped them and noticed their wristbands but then they said another security guy came up to sit with her and asked them if they wanted to go on beach and he said they could. But on that side of beach was the jetskis and parasailing. So that's what my sisters did the jetskiing I wanted to do the parasailing but the clouds were a lil too dark for me plus i was scared anyway! But atlantis was very beautiful!
