Can we buy or pick up the Stockholm card near the cruise port? We will be on Celebrity Eclipse in August. Thank you.

yes there is a tourist information at Frihamnen where you will dock they should sell the Stockholm card.

Either at Frihamnsgatan 66 for berth 638 or at Frihamnsgatan 15, for berths 634 and 650.

Desdichado62 - I was looking at trip journey on the SL.SE website and from Slottsbacken stop to Frihamnen it returns this journey:

  1. approx. 03:15 Slottsbacken
    bus_grey_pic.gif Bus 96 towards Odenplan
    approx. 03:17 Kungsträdgården (på Kungsträdgårdsgatan)

    arrow_down.png
  2. approx. 03:25 Kungsträdgården (på Hamngatan)
    bus_grey_pic.gif Bus 91 towards Frihamnen
    03:40 Frihamnen

As I know I will be taking Bus# 76 from the cruise terminal to Djurgarden, which I think goes to Slussen and Gamla Stan, would I be able to take that same bus #76 in the opposite direction, back to Frihamnen? If so, what is the frequency of that bus back to the terminal? As the ship leaves port at 17:00, I hope to be back by 16:15.

Regarding your search, the time (03:25) and bus numbers (91, 96) indicates that it is the night bus.

Have in mind that we use the 24 hour clock. 00.01-11.59 is AM, 12.01-23.59 is PM. 12.00 is midday and 00.00 (24.00) is midnight.

03:25 is the same as 3:25AM, do another search for 15.25.

Yes you can use bus #76 back to the ship from Gamla Stan as well.

The frequency seems to be every 12 minutes in the afternoon.

Thx, I knew that but definitely was not thinking properly. I did this search 5 times on 3 different dates and totally forgot about the 24 hr clock!

Thank you for setting me straight!

We took Bus 76 from the Slottsbacken stop on Gamla Stan to Frihamnen before our cruise

I was very happy with Stockholm transportation. The bus stops clearly post the schedules, and there is an electronic sign showing when the next buses for that stop are expected to arrive. 1 min 4 mins etc. This was very comforting to me.

Thank you NeoVega - good to know that the Stockholm public transportation system is so efficient. I was worried about getting back to the ship in time and was cutting my sight seeing plans down alot to accommodate the bus timetable.

Have now been through this entire thread. Hoping I have most of it straight although overwhelming amount of information! Three questions:

1. Does Stockholm card include the Djurgarden ferry to get from Vasa Museum to Gamla Stan?

2. We are thinking of doing bike tour that is part of the Stocholm card. The tour leaves from

Narvavägen 13-17. What would be the easiest way to get there from either City Hall or Royal Palace? Walkable?

3. We are thinking of taking the Royal Canal Tour that departs from Nybrokajen. How would we get there from Vasa Museum? Walkable?

Thank you for your help. (We are in Stockholm from 8 am and overnight so lucky to have a bit more time to try and see more).

1. No the ferry is not included. Price is 45SEK for adults and 30SEK for children aged 7-19

2. From The Royal Palace its about 2km to Narvavägen 13 (Historiska Museet).

From the City Hall its about 3km to Historiska museet.

Best bus route should be #56 from Bleckholmsterrassen towards Hakberget get off at Historiska museet.

3. Its walkable about 1.5km but you can also use either tram #7 towards Sergelstorg/T-centralen or bus #76 towards Norra Hammarby Hamnen.

For both get on at Djurgårdsbron stop and get off at Nybroplan.

regular buses and trams are included in the Stockholm card.

No.

See map:

http://sl.se/scripts/kartor-geografiska/7510.Innerstan.2013.html

Its walkable of course but if you want to take advantage of the Stockholm local traffic:

From the Royal Palace: bus 76 to Djurgårdbron and walk the rest of the way.

From the City Hall: bus 62 to Nybroplan, then tram or bus 69 or 76 to Djurgårdbron and walk the rest of the way.

Or bus 3 from the City Hall to the Gamla Stan subway station and then subway red line towards Ropsten to Karlaplan and walk the rest of the way.

(Bus 44 is of course available between Djurgårdbron and Karlaplan along Narvavägen if you don't want to walk at all.)

3. We are thinking of taking the Royal Canal Tour that departs from Nybrokajen. How would we get there from Vasa Museum? Walkable?

Nice easy walk but you can take the tram ("Spårvagn" on the map) or go over the Djurgården bridge and take bus 69 or 76.

more detailed answer:

2. Remember that if you decide to walk Google maps will most likely give you a longer route via Hamngatan, but you can just walk across

Kungsträdgården and Berzeliipark to save some distance (Just like i have done in my linked route suggestions).

Walking directions from Royal palace to Historiska museet:

https://www.google.se/maps?saddr=Kungliga+Slottet,+111+30+Stockholm&daddr=Slottsbacken+to:S%C3%B6dra+Blasieholmshamnen+to:Stallgatan+to:Strandv%C3%A4gen+to:Historiska+museet,+Narvav%C3%A4gen,+Stockholm&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&ll=59.330541,18.084419&spn=0.009533,0.03783&sll=59.327848,18.076125&sspn=0.004767,0.018915&geocode=FeQ_iQMdCMMTASE2PnZIlnr5vSkBSkx-WJ1fRjE2PnZIlnr5vQ%3BFW5AiQMd1MoTAQ%3BFS5MiQMdescTAQ%3BFYpSiQMd1tMTAQ%3BFWhViQMdSxMUAQ%3BFeNfiQMdOA0UASHVVgxOZ2g-XSnp383GUZ1fRjHVVgxOZ2g-XQ&oq=Hist&dirflg=w&mra=ls&t=m&z=16

With bus; go down the Slottsbacken hill, go across the road an the Slottsbacken bus stop is to the right.

From there go with bus #76 to Djugårdsbron from where you can walk up along Narvavägen to Historiskamuseet.

https://www.google.se/maps?saddr=Strandv%C3%A4gen&daddr=Historiska+museet,+Narvav%C3%A4gen,+Stockholm&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&sll=59.333035,18.092592&sspn=0.004766,0.018915&geocode=FVhUiQMd-BUUAQ%3BFeNfiQMdOA0UASHVVgxOZ2g-XSnp383GUZ1fRjHVVgxOZ2g-XQ&oq=Djurg&dirflg=w&mra=dme&mrsp=0&sz=17&t=m&z=17

From city hall,

walking directions: https://www.google.se/maps?saddr=Stockholms+Stadshus+AB,+Hantverkargatan,+Stockholm&daddr=59.3302646,18.0713872+to:59.330728,18.0736044+to:59.3312679,18.0747274+to:Historiska+museet,+Narvav%C3%A4gen,+Stockholm&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&ll=59.332161,18.081737&spn=0.019066,0.07566&sll=59.330552,18.078561&sspn=0.004767,0.018915&geocode=FVpEiQMdIHoTASHAlBORDcmvrinpzZKQ33dfRjHAlBORDcmvrg%3BFdhOiQMdW78TASmBxHBAWZ1fRjGiD-wbc53Kig%3BFahQiQMdBMgTASkZuQZwWZ1fRjGzLpXea_xmtA%3BFcNSiQMdZ8wTASlZBJJ9WZ1fRjF9CWn2fRRdoA%3BFeNfiQMdOA0UASHVVgxOZ2g-XSnp383GUZ1fRjHVVgxOZ2g-XQ&oq=Stads&dirflg=w&mra=dvme&mrsp=2&sz=17&via=1,2,3&t=m&z=15

With bus, the preferred alternative would be to walk to Beckholmsterrassen and from there go with bus #56 towards Hakberget. Get off at Historiska museet stop.

This alternative means that you don't have to change bus but can go the entire distance on the same bus. Frequency is every 20 minutes.

https://www.google.se/maps?saddr=Stockholms+Stadshus+AB,+Hantverkargatan,+Stockholm&daddr=Blekholmsterrassen&hl=sv&sll=59.329869,18.080082&sspn=0.038134,0.15132&geocode=FVpEiQMdIHoTASHAlBORDcmvrinpzZKQ33dfRjHAlBORDcmvrg%3BFQRSiQMdtXQTASFgS1WJ7nH_YCkta5-iYZ1fRjFgS1WJ7nH_YA&oq=Beckholmsterrassen&dirflg=w&mra=ls&t=m&z=17

3. Vasa to Nybrokajen.

Walking directions: https://www.google.se/maps?saddr=Vasamuseet,+Djurg%C3%A5rdsv%C3%A4gen,+Stockholm&daddr=Nybrokajen,+Stockholm&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&ll=59.330727,18.091435&spn=0.009533,0.03783&sll=59.32937,18.054646&sspn=0.004767,0.018915&geocode=FQhHiQMdrQ4UASFBMsG08ZrwzymvKYNtVJ1fRjFBMsG08Zrwzw%3BFRlRiQMdPdYTASlpKm3uWZ1fRjF1kJyuPVHMbA&oq=Nybr&dirflg=w&mra=ls&t=m&z=16

Or go across Djurgårsbron and go with tram either #7 towards Segerls torg/T-centralen, bus #76 towards Norra Hammarby Hamnen, or bus 69 or 69K towards Tomteboda i

n all cases get off Nybroplan. Frequency varies but you should not have to wait longer then 10 minutes in any case.

Thank you so much. Exactly what I needed. Only thing I forgot is having to get back to ship, docked at Frihamnen 638, from canal tour at Nybrokajen. For that will need bus and it will be around 6:30 pm on a weekday. Is there a stop anywhere near there for bus 76?

I am so sorry if you are repeating yourself.

We are arriving on Brilliance of the Seas on Friday 23 August at 9 am. I think at Stadsgarden Terminal.

I wish to visit the Vasa museum, possibly Skansen and then onto Gamla Stan. I see that the HoHo ferry goes to these places, but it doesnt start til 10 am. Would we hit the crowds at the Vasa if we wait til 10 am to go?

Also is there a public ferry which goes there, earlier, from the port of Stadsgarden?

Is the HoHo terminal ferry far from the docking area that Brillance may use?

Is there another way of getting to Vasa?

I have read some of the messages -would you agree is may be better to get the HoHo and do it in reverse? ie Gamla Stan (Royal palace for change of guard?) then after lunch Vasa?

I have no personal experience in the hoho boats, but it is said by those who have here on the forum, that one of the two operators,

I believe it is Royal Sightseeing, have direct routes to Vasa before the regular schedule starts.

The HoHo boats will dock at the same quay that your ship docks at.

The two other options is either bus or harbour ferry (Djurgårdsfärjan).

Bus does not accept cash or credit cards, pre-paid tickets or bus cards only.

There is a tourist information where your ship docks but I don't know if the sell bus-tickets.

Djurgårdfärjan is quite a bit to walk to.

https://www.google.se/maps/preview#!data=!4m23!3m22!1m5!1s%C3%96stra+Tegelviksslingan!2s0x465f7803dd95943f%3A0x819a13a4398baeb6!3m2!3d59.3156584!4d18.0967167!1m5!1sStockholm+Slussen+kajen!2s0x465f77fccfb0f271%3A0x94cd8ffc9c79fd35!3m2!3d59.3217!4d18.074621!2e2!3m8!1m3!1d5163!2d18.0867503!3d59.3248119!3m2!1i2144!2i974!4f13.1&fid=0

Tickets for it are bought at the quay from ticket machines or from manned tickets kiosks.

For both the HoHo boats and the Harbour ferry you will dock at almänna gränd

from where it is a short walk to vasa:

https://www.google.se/maps/preview#!data=!1m4!1m3!1d5163!2d18.0939841!3d59.3268908!4m22!3m21!1m5!1sStockholm+Allm%C3%A4nna+gr%C3%A4nd+brygg!2s0x465f9d5547c2528b%3A0x30c914a4f5a65e1d!3m2!3d59.324072!4d18.094564!1m5!3m2!3d59.3276993!4d18.0921687!4sDjurg%C3%A5rdsv%C3%A4gen+36%2C+115+21+Stockholm!6e2!3m8!1m3!1d5163!2d18.0954732!3d59.3264076!3m2!1i2144!2i974!4f13.1&fid=0

regarding Skansen, its very nice with the town quarters and etc but you have to

realize that Skansen is quite large and with your time limits it might be hard to really enjoy it.

I just received an email today that my bike tour I had booked thru the cruise line was cancelled when we stop on 22AUG (Thursday). I'm actually thankful this happened before we departed as I am now looking at alternative plans and I would appreciate anyone's feed back on if this is a "do-able" plan:

Depart ship as soon as docked (Frihamnen? Celebrity Eclipse) and head to Vasa Museum.

1. According to googlemap, its a 33 minute walk? We prefer to walk as we are very active.

2. Is it possible to see the main highlights within 1 to 1.5 hours? We need to then meet up for our bike tour at 10.45.

Walk from Vasa museum to Narvavagen 17-19.

3. Googlemap advises 10 minute walk as bike tour meets in front of Historical Museum. Does that sound correct on timing? Googlemap advises its in "beta" for their walking directions.

After bike tour ends (aproximately 13.30), we would walk to Gamla Stan area.

4. Googlemap advises 31 minutes - 2.5km?

And finally, walk back to pier from Gamla Stan - 4.5km and around 56 minutes.

5. If we decide to take to take a bus from Narvavagen to Gamla Stan or from Gamla Stan back to the pier, where would we purchase a ticket? 7-Eleven(s)?

6. Can you advise the best bus or tram for Narvavagen to Gamla Stan?

7. I believe we can take Bus 76 from Gamla Stan back to pier?

Sorry for all the questions, but with this last minute change I'm trying to get our schedule reaccomadated.

Thanks to all for your help and assistance.

1-1.5 hours should be enough to do Vasa

Regarding Walking times I have no idea really.

5. There are several places in Gamla Stan where you can buy bus tickets:

http://sl.se/sv/Resenar/Valja-biljett/Kopstallen/Innerstan/

6. Walk to Djurgårdsbron stop (southwards on Narvavägen) from there go with bus #76 towards Hammarby Hamnen.

Buy bus tickets at Royal Kiosken which is located to the right after you have crossed Djurgårdsbron.

Asking for help once again. I am in the process of making arrangements for a taxi to pick us up at Frihamnen for an early morning flight. I am in touch with one of the companies recommended on this thread. I am just not sure how to specify where to meet and person I am emailing with does not seem certain. Can taxis drive to berth 638 or do we walk to end of pier and meet there? Is there a separate spot to meet a pre-arranged taxi vs. queue of taxis? For a 10:30 am flight at Arlanda on a Friday morning, what time would you suggest leaving for the airport? Thanks so much....

I would definitely recommend pre-booking a taxi. There should be a separate queue for pre-booked taxis.

I think the taxis should be able to pick you up outside the cruise terminal.

At least it looks that way on Google maps streetview.

A map of the berth: http://www.stockholmshamnar.se/Documents/%C3%96vrigt/Karta%20Frihamnen_kryssningslagen.pdf

That is just below Frihamnshallen on this map:

https://www.google.se/maps?q=Frihamnspiren,+Stockholm&hl=sv&ll=59.345341,18.126358&spn=0.004765,0.018915&sll=56.031595,12.709036&sspn=0.020885,0.07566&oq=Frihamns,+Stockholm&hq=Frihamnspiren,&hnear=Stockholm&t=m&z=17

Adress would be Frihamnen cruise terminal, at Frihamnsgatan/frihamnspiren at Frihamnen.

I would also recommend leaving at the very latest at 7.30-8am.

Mornings means lot of road traffics and lots of passengers and flights at Arlanda.

https://www.google.se/maps?saddr=Frihamnspiren,+Frihamnsgatan+68,+115+56+Stockholm&daddr=Arlanda+Airport,+Stockholm-arlanda&hl=sv&ll=59.496697,18.013458&spn=0.607144,2.421112&sll=59.298776,17.299342&sspn=0.610699,2.421112&geocode=FauLiQMdeakUASnN_Bm9yIJfRjFmNDStnPs-MA%3BFYo3jgMdlKQRASEzXE5-opX4Uin9gy3DY51fRjEzXE5-opX4Ug&oq=Arlanda&mra=ls&t=m&z=10

If you are uncertain about taxis at the docking berth send an email to Ports of Stockholm and ask.

Click the email adress at the bottom of the page to trigger the email form.

7. Yes that is correct.

Wow, thanks for all of the helpful information about Stockholm!

I will be traveling on a 7 nt cruise out of Stockholm on the Legend of the Seas in late June 2014. We have the option to stay in Sweden for another week or so before or after the cruise. With this much time, could you recommend an excursion to another city, perhaps by train? If so, which city would you recommend and which method of transportation should I take? Thanks so much!

Yes, they can drive to 638. I however, do not recommend pre booking a taxi unless you need a large one. (5-8 persons or have more than 4 large suitcases) The taxi driver will only wait 5-10 min after pre booked time, so if you are delayed in any way, he will have left and you'll be standing there getting more confused trying to find your taxi instead of just grabbing the first one. Also, if he's waiting for you, if so only for 5 min you will be paying extra for that time. This is a common problem on every cruise, as its really hard to determine exactly when you'll be out of from the ship even if you choose express and walk out with your luggage yourself.

They always make sure there are lots of Taxis at the harbor and if you leave by 7:30 you'll have plenty of time and the taxis will not have run out. There are also Taxi coordinators who can help you.

Hi, I'm really racking my brain here, trying to come up with a lovely worth while cities nearby for you to take the train to, but I come up empty. The good ones are all quite far away. I would recommending staying a couple of days in Stockholm but not a whole week. You can do lovely day trips out to the Archipelago and you can take the train to Uppsala which is about 50 mins away. If you want to spend more time in Sweden I would recommend the West Coast or the Island of Gotland.

It depends on what you want to see, how much time you to allocate to it,

how price sensitive you are and etc...

Perhaps a two day round trip in the province of Södermanland?

Stockholm-Mariefred-Strängnäs-Eskilstuna-Sundbyholm (stay the night)-

Nyköping-Trosa-Stockholm.

Recommended transport would be:

Stockholm->Mariefred, take the train towards Eskilstuna/Arboga get off at Läggesta and go with the old narrow gauge vintage rail road to Mariefred.

Bus is also available from Läggesta to Mariefred.

From Mariefred to Strängsnäs, either direct bus or bus/train to Läggesta and train/bus to Strängnäs.

From Strängnäs to Eskilstuna either bus or train.

From Eskilstuna to (and back) Sundbyholm bus is the only transport available.

From Eskilstuna to Nyköping bus

From Nyköping to Trosa either bus or train to Vagnhärad station and bus from there or direct bus to Trosa.

From Trosa to Stockholm there is allot of different combinations of buses and trains/subways/commuter trains.

Search connections here: http://reseplanerare.resrobot.se/bin/query.exe/sn

Obviously the most convenient would be to rent a car.

Then in addition to that I would also recommend a full day archipelago cruise with Strömma Kanalbolag.

Thank you again! I don't really need to visit other cities and if Stockholm is as good or better than the other areas, I'll keep it simple. I had heard things about Northern Sweden being great for scenery and wildlife, so I thought perhaps an overnight train there and back the next night would be worthwhile. However, another thing to consider is that my 4 year-old daughter will be with us and we may just need to stay in the same hotel where she can have a place for naps, etc.

The archipelago cruise looks fantastic! Perhaps this will give us the scenario we are looking for without the hassle of extra travel. Another option could be on the way out, if we could take the train to either Copenhagen or perhaps Oslo, we could get our return flight out of there. Neither of those cities will be visited on our cruise.
