Shuttles at the ports question 2

When you say shuttle are you talking about cruise ship shuttles. Some cruise lines provide complimentary shuttles in ports while others provide them for a charge.

In Dubrovnik you will need some type of transporation to get to the downtown area.

In Barcelona you could walk it but would be better with transportation.

Dubrovnik - It is approx 3 km from where the ships dock to the Old Town. There is a service bus, but the taxi is convenient for 10 euro one way.

Barcelona - It is a long and quite dangerous walk from the cruise ternimals to La Rambla - the port bus is 5 euro return to the Christopher Columbus monument.

Messina - is within walking distance of the centre.

This depends on the size of your ship and whether you are there for a day trip or embark/debark.

My last cruise, which began and ended in Barcelona, used the newer cruise ship port that is further south and out at the end of a long causeway. While I did see people walking in from the port, you'd need to be made of pretty sturdy stuff to want to do it on foot.

My first cruise stop in Barcelona, on the other hand, was a day stop. We docked very close to La Rambla - it was less than a five minute walk from the ship to the Columbus memorial.

That's correct. There are two passenger terminal in Barcelona.

The challenge with the one that is new is that it is a further and you have to walk across a bridge. For that one, you would be better either taking a shuttle or the short taxi ride. The other one is right in the city so as mentioned you just walk it.

That is it, I don't know. I read on here people taking shuttles from ship at different ports. didnt know if ships provided or we are on our own to find transportation at these ports.

This depends on the size of your ship and whether you are there for a day trip

Carnival new Dream ship (big mama jamma) just day stops at each of these ports

So in Dubrovnik, Carnival doesn't provide shuttles we take public or taxis.

We would rather save our legs for town walking and touring, than for transportation :D

THANK YOU for your information. !!!

We often walk from the new Barcelona cruise ship piers across the bridge to the Ramblas. The walk is approximately 1 mile (it varies depending on which pier position your ship is located) and is a very safe walk since the entire bridge has protected sidewalks on either side (the views are great). Once you get across the bridge there are sidewalks that take you right over to the Ramblas area. On one of our cruises last year (it was Jewel of the Seas) the queue to get on the shuttle bus was over 30 minutes long. We walked to the Ramblas in about 20 min. There is also a public bus that stops right in front of the pier buildings that is cheaper than the cruise line shuttles. Taxis are also cheaper than the shuttles if you have 4 people.
