RMS Olympic Posted September 15, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2016 I believe I read somewhere the next ship due out in 2018 will be similar to the Joy. I wonder if FDR will have input into its design, something he said he did not do on the Getaway nor Escape. I hope there is a better pool deck design, more open....and no go cart track. Me, I will look to book either her crossing or first Caribbean cruise. Wonder if the name Bliss will be used? Anyone else setting their sites on this next addition? hawkeyetlse Posted September 15, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2016 It better be based in Europe. We keep building all these ships and we never get to keep any of them! We only get them back as hand-me-downs when you've all moved on to bigger and better things.

But the next ship will probably just be crazy, the cruises ships now are beyond belief. I wouldn't be surprised if they announced a 4 mile long ship with a sports stadium and its own metro system! Jokes aside it will be interesting to see what they come up with next, what more can you put on a boat!?
negn Posted September 15, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2016 How about a smaller, more intimate ship I think the older crowd would appreciate that. We don't need slides, rock climbing, rope courses. A smaller ship would also be able to get into some of the ports which these mega ships can not I'd be willing to pay more for that experience

Or do you mean even smaller than that, say sub 1000 passengers?
Two Wheels Only Posted September 15, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 15, 2016 If I had my way.....:D The next ship (Breakaway Plus class) would sail out of Port Canaveral (replacing Epic). Depending on how things go with Joy, I think that a go-cart track would work perfectly since there are so many theme parks is the area (attracting the same demographic). If the go-cart track on Joy is more trouble than it's worth (mechanical issues, track closures due to weather, etc), then forget it. I'd also replace the grotto with an adult-only pool in the adult-only area, Spice H2O. I'd make the middle pool a kiddie pool with depths between 0 and 3'11". The front pool would be the main pool with depths between 0 and whatever. The Haven observation lounge on Joy is nice but they are losing so much space that is used for the DOS/OS on Escape. I'd really like to see the deck plans for Joy to compare. All I have seen are modified (and incorrect) Escape plans with the word "Joy" stamped on them. Cruiser Bruiser Posted September 15, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 15, 2016 (edited) I cannot imagine Joy being the basis for any additional Escape-class ships. The elimination of the Studios and replacement with Concierge-class, the additional space in the Haven (especially the forward observation lounge), the additional casinos, and the smaller passenger passenger count all make the ship seem like a one-of to me. But, the inboard lifeboat arrangement, the forward observation lounge, and the indoor cyber-activity area seem like the kind of features that might be desirable on a ship intended to do a lot of service in Alaska and other cold-weather ports. Add in a glass-covered pool in lieu of the "serenity" deck, and of course add back all the expected Escape I features like the Studios, and I would think Escape III would be a popular and desirable ship.
