mariner2017 Posted May 17, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2017 We will be on Mariner in Alaska in August and are concerned about the condition on the ship as many reviews state the ship is tired and dated. We were so disappointed the refurbishment didn't happen last month, as planned. Can anyone comment on the condition of the cabins and restaurants? Travelcat2 Posted May 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 18, 2017 You may want to ask the question on the current "Live from the Mariner........." thread. We will be onboard the Mariner in late August and are not too concerned abut her condition. I understand that some of the features in the suites* may be a bit outdated but the ship in general is reported to be quite good. The main reason we booked two cruises on the Mariner (before refurbishment) is the new Compass Rose menu. As long as the service and food are top notch, we can deal with a few items that need refurbishment. *On Regent's three older ships (Mariner, Voyager and Navigator), the bathrooms still have the old granite/marble. It is not a matter of money but the time it would take to remove and replace the granite (at least that is my understanding).
taxare Posted May 18, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 18, 2017 I agree with TC, that current thread is probably a good place to get a thorough and entertaining response. With that said, we were on her several weeks ago and while there are areas that could use the refurbishment, overall she is in excellent shape. They have not changed Signatures to Chartreuse yet. They have changed the menu in CR and by the time you go the new iPad system will be in place, They will be definitely updating the restaurants and common areas but it did not take away from our enjoyment of the cruise at all and except for the first night in CR which we discussed in a previous thread the service throughout was excellent. Onkel_Ken Posted May 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2017 Sounds like the ship is still in good shape for cruising!
UUNetBill Posted May 19, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 19, 2017 We sailed once about a month or two before a refurb and aside from the older décor you couldn't tell it was coming due. Regent is all about routine maintenance - it's not like they let the ships turn into rusting hulks before they freshen them up. ;p Just my opinion. Bellaggio Cruisers Posted May 20, 2017 #6 Share Posted May 20, 2017 We were on the Mariner last month( April). We were quite disappointed in our PH suite. "Outdated" is not the only definition. There were dents and chips on all the wood pieces. The bath needs lots of TLC. The carpet was worn and stained. The balcony was totally neglected, with rust and black stains on the slider. On a good note, the bedding was very comfortable. Obviously the best part of the ship was the food and service. The shows were wonderful. We chose this cruise to visit Havana and we were not disappointed. We didn't even get off at the other two ports. So we really enjoyed our sea days. We look forward to sailing on the Mariner again after the refurbishment. Our next sailing is on the Explorer in November. Love that ship. Hope it still has the clean, new atmosphere. gnld Posted May 20, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 20, 2017 We were on the Mariner years ago. Wanted to try her again, perhaps later this year, after the refurbishment (not just before it!). Disappointed it was put off a year. So now we're booked on the Mariner for an East Asia cruise in early 2019. We were recently on the Voyager, and on the new Explorer last year. Loved the Explorer!! We'll be back on her in January.
Rare Zqueeze1 Posted May 20, 2017 #8 Share Posted May 20, 2017 We are currently onboard in a Cat F suite and UUNetBill is correct. Too many brown colors in the cabins. But, everything is well maintained and she looks great. Z and TB Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
