fletchers5 Posted March 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2012 I am sure this will start a heated discussion. You have to book a balcony in order to be able to smoke ( I know you have to smoke on the balcony, not in the cabin). If you smoke in your cabin you will be fined $250.00. Is this per day or for the whole cruise? If you normally book an inside cabin, upgrading to a balcony would cost you at least $700.00 more ( for 2 people). What if you smoked in your inside cabin. You would be fined $250.00. This would be a lot cheaper than booking a balcony just in order to smoke. Has anyone smoked in a cabin and been fined since the new rules??????? What happens if you smoke on your balcony and your door is open and the smoke goes in your room? HMMM...Your room might smell like smoke......I dont think theyd be able to prove you actually smoked in your room and think the $250.00 fine is a Deterent Only and WONT Be Enforced.... I will be smoking on our balcony this coming May and in the Casino.......
Cruisin&Relaxin Posted March 19, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2012 NCL has my full support of this policy. I have no problems with it at all.
che5904 Posted March 19, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 19, 2012 I don't book anything below a balcony anyway, so I have no intention on smoking in my cabin or booking anything less than a balcony in the future. I'm sure anyone that would consider breaking this policy are the same people who think breaking any policy on NCL is OK. You either respect a company's rules or you don't, I seriously don't think the money is a deterrent one way or the other. Quite simple IMO. Hey maybe if they have success charging for this broken rule, they will consider charging for all rules that passengers break like booze smuggling, chair hogging etc etc etc. :p :D

I shall have to revert to cigarettes as my smoke of choice (small cigars) are no longer allowed on the balcony :( I suspect they might warn for a 1st offence and then fine for persistent offenders. I do not intend to find out - I would rather use $250 for Martinis/Casino/Le Bistro etc..

Who said they were kicking anyone off of the ship, they stated there would be a $250 fine. If you paid it they would have no reason to kick you off. Would they? fletchers5 Posted March 19, 2012 Author #9 Share Posted March 19, 2012 I was wondering also about the balcony doors...the smoke would definitely blow into the cabin. First off, there is no way I would smoke in the cabin with non smoking rules. I was just wondering if anyone was thinking that for $250.00 compared to paying for a balcony, that they might consider it. Plus I thought since smoking ALWAYS starts a heated discussion...it is kind of fun to read all the COMMENTS.....
cutiepiefred Posted March 19, 2012 #10 Share Posted March 19, 2012 The 250 is for a cleaning fee.... they will throw you off the ship for breaking the rules. It happened to our neighbors on the last cruise. No smoking means just that. It wont hurt anyone to walk up a few flights of stairs or take an elevator to get to designated smoking areas, or just spend the extra and get a balcony. IMHO its not worth the health of others for you to break the rules

puddles99 Posted March 19, 2012 #12 Share Posted March 19, 2012 The $250 matches the cleaning fee that many non-smoking hotels charge, so I don't see it as out of the ordinary.

greeneggbert Posted March 19, 2012 #15 Share Posted March 19, 2012 It would be great if they enforced a "No Smoking" Policy!!!! It was very frustrating on the GEM a few weeks back of all the smokers. It was hard to sit out on the pool deck and enjoy some sun and good music, due to individuals smoking everywhere! As far as balconies, on this particular cruise there was many complaints about individuals smoking on their balconies, and those next to them couldn't sit out and enjoy due to the smoke blowing over to theirs. Also, those who were smoking in the their balcony rooms, it made the hallways smell terrible. I guess I have just gotten use to a state which has banned smoking in pretty much ALL public spaces and eateries........
RareBird Posted March 19, 2012 #16 Share Posted March 19, 2012 I don't smoke but I travel with a person who does. I ask balcony door is always closed when they smoke. When they smoke 'light' versions, no smoke ever goes into the cabin.

Diamond60 Posted March 19, 2012 #18 Share Posted March 19, 2012 Take a chill pill non-smokers! You got most of your wishes. Smokers, now can only smoke on their balconies, casinos and limited number of public areas. I remember when smokers smoked ALL OVER the ship. Smokers have rights too. So let's be fair to everyone. MHO.
WolfpackFan Posted March 19, 2012 #19 Share Posted March 19, 2012 I think this is a great policy. Now if we could just get the smokers to stay on one side of the ship in the outside smoking areas. Two weeks ago on the Spirit they were all over the place. I got a headache multiple days because of them.

cathhduh Posted March 19, 2012 #24 Share Posted March 19, 2012 is there a reason you cant go in to the many designated smoking areas? why ruin that cabin for the future travelers. your neighbor could have severe asthma which is one of the main reasons smoking areas are designed. many NCL boats have smoking lounges which are comfortable and the room has a filteration system so that its not a big black cloud of smoke every time someone opens or closes the door so its not even like you would have to smoke outside. So basically you are saying you should be allowed to smoke anywhere you wish and spoil the cruise I paid for. How selfish can you be.
