Kamloops50 Posted April 19, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2015 Sailing on Ruby Princess RT from Seattle on August 9th. Would appreciate some help on what we should pack. Winter coat? Boots? Thanks. Winter boots and coats aren't required in Alaska during the cruising season. Basically you'll need layers that can be removed or added as required. Nighttime lows are about 50F with daytime 70F . I have been in Alaska whereb the high temps are around 85F . The weather can vary a lot during the day.
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 19, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 19, 2015 Welcome to Cruise Critic. We take water proof jackets with zippered linings. We also have water proof shoes. Take a hat and gloves and small portable umbrellas. Prepare to dress in layers. Pack binoculars.
csmjfmbe Posted April 19, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 19, 2015 We were there a few years ago on the second last cruise of the season (September) and we had lovely weather when there, it does get cold at night so be prepared to layer up. MCC retired Posted April 19, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 19, 2015 Been in Anchorage in August when it hit 90 once. OP is doing a Seattle Inside Passage , not going that far north even. Pack a few layers just in case . Inside passage is more of a rainforest so pack rain gear.
thinfool Posted April 19, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 19, 2015 40's and 50's while you are sailing the Inside Passage. Warmer on port days. Going to Glacier Bay or other 'upclose' encounters with ice?? You will need every layer you own on that day. :):D
zqvol Posted April 19, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 19, 2015 I ditto what everyone above has said with this caveat. Boots may be in order if they are hiking boots as opposed to winter snow boots. We take those instead of tennis shoes and wear them all the time except at dinner. If you do this make sure that they are comfortable. We find that the best layers are smartwool products. Yes, they are pricey, but wool works well at both keeping you warm and cool.
