Viva Vino wine package changes

Last week on the Breakaway, we had planned to purchase 4 bottles from the mid level of this package because we like the Robert Mondavi Chardonnay, but it isn't available anymore. It has been replaced by Simi. We asked if the new wine was available by the glass at the bar so that we could taste it before we purchased it, but it isn't available by the glass or the bottle anywhere on the ship, so we ended up buying the Mondavi by the single bottle.

Some of the other wines have also changed, so if you planned to purchase this package for a specific wine, you may want to check the list to make sure it's still available.

Would you happen to have that list at all? Thank-you :)

We were on the Jewel last week and I noticed it was different, too. There doesn't seem to be any real rhyme or reason to some of their groupings. If memory serves me correctly, the North and South SV was the same bottle price as the Beringer WZ, but thet are in different categories. I thought the Mondavi was available but in the Conniseur class. But I could be mistaken.

Cheers!

just a quick question do you get to pick a different wine from that list for each bottle or do you only get one choice each time? and are they worth that price?

You may choose up to four from the list, all the same or all different. They will give you a chit with your selection written on it that you present to any bartender or waiter to receive your bottle. It is my understanding that you may switch a choice later if you want to but I've never actually tried that. There is a huge mark-up for wine so "are they worth it" is a loaded question. We did enjoy our selections.

You can choose from the list on the level that you purchase and from any level lower. You can choose 4 different or all the same.

I think it's worth it if you're buying wine on the ship. If we had been able to choose the Robert Mondavi from the mid level on the previous list, it would have been $24.50 per bottle. To buy an individual bottle of the same wine at the bar costs $32.00. I could probably get it for less at home and bring it with me but then you have still have to pay the corkage fee.

They have Isabel Mondavi Chardonnay but not Robert. I'm going to try a couple of the new wines before our next cruise in November to see which one I like.

Looks very similar to what they have previously offered. I think most are the same.

Unfortunately the NZ Sauvignon Blanc Matua Valley has disappeared. The only wine I drink onboard. It was in the mid priced range. It looks like I'll have to bring my own onboard.

We also like the Matua Valley and it seemed to be the most popular at Dinner time during our last Cruise on NCL Pearl in Apr 14. It is strange that it is not included in the package as it is still included in NCL Wine List dated 02/05/2014 (just checked a few minutes ago). I will check this out during our upcoming cruise on NCL Jade and will ask the appropriate director during the Meet & Greet the reason for deleting it from the list.

If you buy the 4 wines on board (viva vino), can you have the bottles in your stateroom or only consume them at the restaurants?

We had one in the theater watching a show, one in a specialty restaurant, one on our balcony and one in the MDR.:)

Thought a comparison would be interesting, so those with "yes" beside them are carried over from the previous list. Not sure about the "North & South" wines, guess they're new as well.

Cheers

This list is not very good, only (2) Cabs although inconvenient, I'm better off bringing my own.

It may have been removed from the list due to difficulties in maintaining adequate inventory of it. On our September cruise on the Jewel, the Matua was only available in limited quantities, and was only available to Viva Vino purchasers. It was still on the wine list, but was not being sold in the bars or restaurants.

It was our favourite of the wines we purchased, and we have bought a couple of bottles since returning from our cruise.

Ha ha, would love the company :p

:) :)

Seriously though, I checked our last Viva Vino package list and at the bottom it says "A 15% gratuity will be added to your check". I didn't for one moment think it was optional and never considered questioning it! But we're all different, I guess!

Hi

last week I asked for the current list for the Viva Vino Package...

they sent me this one

are there differences between European and US Cruises?

or did they sent me an old one?

There are a few factors:

The NCL offices don't always have the most up to date information.

The Viva Vino lists are not necessarily the same on every ship. I have seen slightly different lists on different cruises.

The only way you will know for sure what is available is to wait and see I'm afraid.
