Flights to Anchorage?

Start with ITA software where you can check fares for many flights. Decide what "best" means to you, whether it is lowest price, fewest stops, or perfect arrival or departure times. Decide if you are going to fly in 1 or more days early and when you are going to leave after debarkation. Where is debarkation? Once you have thought about what you want to do go to the Cruise Air forum under Cruise Discussion Topics and ask your questions of he expert flyers here at Cruise Critic.

"Best" is highly subjective. IMO, one criterion would be no more than one stop. Alaska flies non-stops to Seattle and has many frequent flights to Anchorage. American has non-stops from DFW to ANC and several flights from MCO to DFW.

 

I use Google Flights to help make the decision.

Living in the Seattle/Tacoma area, I fly Alaska Airlines frequently. All aircraft are 737's

There are flights from MCO to SEA. Then a layover and flights from SEA into ANC.

A short layover would get you into ANC in the very early morning hours.

 

Alaska Airlines is mileage partners with AA, DL, BA and others.

 

If choosing this airline, I'd do MCO - SEA,,, overnight at a local hotel near the airport (all of them have free shuttles) get up the next morning refreshed and continue on to ANC

 

Currently, prices for next May are about $400pp. (OP didn't give dates so cannot be more precise on costs)

Apparently, ANC is considered "international", at least in terms of connection time allowance. The AS flight from MCO arrives in the late evening and AS doesn't imposed a fare "break" for connections that are outside the normal four hours or first flight. Seems you could take any number of morning AS departures from SEA for roughly the same cost.

 

Interesting. Will have to try to see if HNL is the same. Learn something new every day.

Maybe most of the high-yield business travel is southbound into SEA in the morning? Business and government people headed to the lower 48 (aka "The Outside") would start their travel in the morning to arrive at a reasonable hour. For the same reasons, northbound business travel would be afternoon/evening flights.

 

That could explain what you've noticed....AS is steering northbound leisure travelers away from the evening flights to keep the seats for higher-yield passengers, and onto flights the next morning with less demand. Just speculation.....
