Traveling Questions

My wife and some friends are looking to take a cruise in August. We want to take a train down the night before and stay in a hotel for the cruise. I an looking for the closest Amtrak train station closest to Port Canaveral. If you can help, please let us know so I will know whether to look at other plans. We will leave from the train station in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The nearest station should be Orlando.

Have you checked out prices? Not your route, but we considered taking a train to the cruise. A coach seat on the train was considerably more then a coach seat on a plane and a sleeperette was almost the same price as the cruise!

Orlando is the closest station.

Given all the hassles and cost with Amtrak, have you just considered driving down to Port Canaveral. From much of NC it is only about an 8 hour drive and some of the hotel/motels in the area will give you a special park,sleep and cruise rate so you can leave your car until you return from the cruise.

Be aware that you can't depend on Amtrak being on time.

Plus it is usually expensive, so I hope you've priced it.

Closest station is Orlando, so you will also have expense of getting from Orlando to Port.

Goodness, which night before were you thinking of traveling? The Silver Meteor(97) would pick you up in Fayetteville at 1:34AM, and let you off in Orlando 11 hours later. EM
