Luvtotravel2, they always had a single bar stand outside to make the drinks, this is where we got ours. We didn't have to go into the restaurant for it.

This past January on Conquest, she was only making Bloody Marys at the bar stand outside the MDR. We went to the MDR desk, waited off to the side for the waiter, then sat at the closest table while waiting for our drink. We went there about noon, got our free drink, and then went to Lido for Guy's Burgers.

We had already been to the MDR for breakfast that morning (8:30 AM) but didn't want a drink that early.

They have made a large number of cutbacks but still think the food and service are good.

My complaint is with entertainment which has really gone downhill especially with playlist.

I certainly agree with you about Playlist Productions. This past January was our first experience with them. A couple of them I enjoyed but a couple of them I didn't care for.

haven't cruised with CCL in a while, so I looked up the perks of all the tiers...

Basically, it is a joke right now, even with that 1 free drink.

Other cruise lines offer better perks for the top tier cruisers - and while I understand some lines MIGHT be more expensive than others, typically they CAN be around the same price - it just depends

When i first started cruising (With CCL) I thought "Oh RCI/NCL/Princess are the expensive lines" but after looking at prices, some of them are comparable or cheaper. Maybe not for suites or balconies, but definitely for insides.

Having said this, getting to "Platinum plus plus, or diamond plus, or pinnacle" or whatever you want to call it has personally NEVER been a priority for me, because I do not care about a 7.00 "Free" drink or "free laundry day" or "Free drinks in a certain lounge from 5-7pm" In the grand scheme of things, they are perks and are nice, but they never influence my decision if Im going to cruise with that line or not.

I know. Somebody compared Carnival food to fast food. Really fast food. I guess I'll take a Mclobster any day.

Funny how you mention McLobster. I read that there are McDonald's that serve lobster rolls. I think in Canada.

I am no Carnival Cheer Leader, but I know you get what you pay for. Carnival gives a great low price cruise with incentives for repeat customers that keeps people coming back.

The drink at brunch coupon, turned into lines of people standing at the door to main dining room just waiting for a bar waiter to get them a drink, they didn't go into brunch. They tried a bloody Mary stand on some ships.

While some of us used the coupons, many didn't, and the program was replaced with water for all Red and up repeaters, so more people now get a perk that wait, people want bottles of water to take off in ports.

Match Play was still going strong in January

Flat Iron steaks are considered a good cut of steak, more fat then the sirloin it replaced, yes its called marbling and gives it more flavor. Try it you may realize its pretty good.

I pick my trip based on ports first, ship second but any Marketing 101 course will tell you A. nothing is for free not OBC or FREE Drink Packages, it is either included in your overall price for the cruise or its used to fill ships the Cruise line has problems filling.

All of the Cruise lines are looking for ways to control costs to keep pricing low or add low cost items they can charge a lot for to keep profits where stockholders want them. The same as every other business in the World, in most cases but most notable on a cruise ship, we would not pay the price if there really were just keeping old programs and adding expense and upping the cost of the cruise.

I think Flat Iron are 6th, with Brisket, Skirt, tri tip, Thin Flank, and boneless blade topping them and Flank, top sirlon sirloin tip and eye of round as number 10

As above....go pay more. Carnival is offering a superb product for the price. You want 4*, go pay a 4* price.

Actually other lines are offering the same and more for almost the same price as Carnival on many sailings. Carnival isnt always the cheapest but many wouldn't know because they never look elsewhere.

With casino rates and cruises there is no need for Carnival to offer additional incentives to get people into the casino. They can't give everything away and make the return they want.

Land based does, and they don't have a captive audience like cruise ships do.

I don't believe you can use it on craps. On roulette and blackjack

I have used the match play many times on the craps tables on carnival cruises. You have to use it on even money bets so I have played it on pass line and come bets.

A lot of land based casinos are not making the return they want.

The fact that cruise ships have a captive audience it the reason they don't have to offer the incentives and have such lousy pay tables on machines.

Most land based casinos have competition you can walk to right next door.

My experience has been Carnival is actually better with comps than land based casinos for the low rollers like me.

I go to Biloxi, AC, Canada and Las Vegas and quite honestly other than two nights free and "free" drinks I don't get anything else.

Carnival comped me three cruises and casino drinks on five cruises last year.
