Newark to Midtown

A car service (generally a better idea than taking a taxi) such as Dial7 http://www.dial7.com or Carmel http://www.carmellimo.com will cost about $50 for a sedan, plus tolls and tip...about $75 to 80 total to Manhattan.

NJ Transit train to NY Penn Station will be $12.50 per adult. (You take the AirTrain from the airport terminal to the NJ Transit airport station).

Express bus from the airline terminals to midtown Manhattan http://www.coachusa.com/olympia/ss.newarkairport.asp costs $16 per person.

Senior citizen discounts are available for both the train and bus, if you qualify.

Depending on where your ultimate destination is in Manhattan, if you're taking the train or bus you may need to add the cost of a taxi from NY Penn Station or the bus stop to where you're going.

Just to be very precise you take the PATH train which is like a subway from Newark Penn Station to World Trade Center in downtown Manhattan.

The regular NJ transit trains go from Newark Penn Station to New York Penn Station in midtown Manhattan. I know I'm being picky, but I want everyone to pick the right "train" to get exactly where they want to go.

I just did that exact trip this am. (I am typing this from my hotel on 8th ave). Took the air-train to the NJ transit train ($12.50 each way) to NY Penn Station then hopped on the C train north to 50th st. (subway is $2.50 i think, but i bought a 7 day unlimited card for $30). Could not have been any easier. And I was far from the only one dragging a suitcase with me, everybody from families with kids to folks is business suits had them as well.

First of all, thank you njhorseman for all your good information over the years !

I agree that a car service is generally a better idea than taking a taxi.

However (just to compare), last Saturday a.m. we jumped in a taxi, from EWR(Newark Airport) to our hotel in Greenwich Village.

Flat fee $57. plus tolls $18. plus tip.

The last time we reserved car service from Pier 88 to the airport, there was a mix-up and we had to wait 45 minutes, so DW decided WE were taking a taxi.:)

Thanks...we (certainly not just me) try to help where we can.

Sorry to hear about your past car service issues.

Thanks for the report on the current taxi fare from EWR to downtown. It's always useful to have up to date information.
