Heading to Alaska this June.

Do I need to take my passport every time I stop at a location? Or just when embarking?

Unless you are taking train excursion into Canada or some other tour into Canada leave your passport in the safe for all AK ports.

Alaska is in the United States. As noted above, doing an excursion into Canada or, visiting Vancouver or Victoria, your passport will not be needed.

If the OP takes the white pass train from Skagway to Canada they WILL need a passport. US residents do need a passport to cross into Canada for that excursion and for some others as well.
