The airport recommends you arrive 3 hrs before an international fight however if you check with your airline they will likely say 2 hrs. Airports have become shopping centres and they want you to have that extra hour making purchases.

Not just that, but of course there will be passportcontrol and security checks (extra strict that takes a bit more time since you fly to the USA) before you can get to the gates. Schiphol has a 1 terminal concept, due to that sometimes you need to walk some distance.

If I am not mistaken that's a thing of the past with the recent introduction of the central security but the 3hr treshold is a good one as our border patrol agents are understaffed this season.

Would not go under 2hr if I was OP.
