Carnival Victory to Bermuda 2016

I was looking at the May 2016 cruise to Bermuda on the Carnival Victory, anyone with any experience cruising from Port Canaveral to Bermuda?

DH and I have never been to Bermuda so would like to try something different.

I have been reading about the Victory being an older ship and there will be 5 sea days, is there anything like music trivia type activities during sea days???

We actually like the smaller older ships and would be booking an aft facing balcony on Empress deck, I think it might be across from a laundry, would that mean a lot of folks going back and forth in front of those aft cabins?

We were curious about this cruise also. It wasn't so much the ship I was wondering about, but I'm still researching Bermuda to see see if it's worth a one-port shot. It's a fair amount of time there, though. Curious to read peoples thoughts on this post!

My cousin and her DH have sailed from Boston a few times to Bermuda, they seem to keep busy enough when they go, they just cruised with us on the NCL Dawn in March and enjoyed the Western Caribbean also, they seemed to like the same things we like when in port so I am thinking we would enjoy Bermuda, not sure there will be another chance to sail out of PC to Bermuda, the port is only a bit over an hour down the coast from us, I know there is a cruise in Oct. but thats hurricane season so we need to be home to secure the house if needed.

Hi. I'm looking at this cruise too so I am very happy to see this thread. I have been to Bermuda twice many years ago & just loved it. We live on the water outside Pensacola so we stay put during hurricane season too. I read some of the reviews about the Victory here on CC & some were not very positive. I do realize that you have to take these reviews with a grain of salt & that a cruise is what you make it. Has anyone heard much about the Victory? I am thinking of sailing May 2016.

I would love to do that cruise, but at 1200+ pp for a balcony it's out of my price range. # days at port sounds awesome. You rarely hear bad things about the Bermuda cruises.

We looked at Sunshine and Victory out of Port Canaveral as having the most time in Bermuda, including pretty full days on arrival day and departure day.

It would be good to check if the "festivities" in King's Wharf and in Hamilton are scheduled during these somewhat out-of-season dates.

The 2nd day would be good for an Island tour or to ferry to St George for exploration and lunch, ferry back to Hamilton for afternoon/evening and ferry back to King's Wharf.

I did the 1-time Glory to Bermuda in Oct 2011 from Norfolk and am booked on the 1 Splendor sailing this coming October.

Glory was only there 1-1/2 days (6 nights) and that wasn't nearly enough time. There really wasn't time to go off exploring the 2nd morning when we were sailing at noon.

Splendor will be there almost three full days.

Bermuda sailings are always expensive. And if you want to go Carnival, you have very few options (supply & demand rules here). You aren't going to find any bargains on Bermuda cruises (on Carnival at least; I got an offer on HAL from Boston for May that I could've cruised for <$1k as a solo but already had a 5/31 booking that was within penalty phase).

They did a few Bermuda sailings on Fantasy from Charleston a couple of years ago. In fact, I was booked on one but switched to Glory when I realized Fantasy was there on a Sunday & Monday and I read that most things were closed Sundays.

So, port time really matters. Tons of info on the Bermuda port-of-call board. Everyone needs to realize that Bermuda is NOT a Caribbean island (amazed that some people seem to think it is) and that it is an expensive place to visit.

Being a fan of the Fantasy class, I don't consider Victory to be an "older, smaller" ship at all! But then, I don't need all the bells and whistles of the larger ships.

Of course there are things to do on the sea days. Why wouldn't there be? Same trivia and karaoke and games and bingo and casino as on any other sailing.

The price on the Splendor sailing has soared. I booked a year ago and paid >$1,400 for a 1A as a solo! Has been almost-sold-out since last summer. Still considering cancelling since I booked on the Sunshine Journey sailings for end of November (11 nights for less than 7 to Bermuda). Just thinking that if I return to Bermuda I may do so on a different cruiseline.

Thanks for the reply, we usually spend sea days reading on the balcony (and eating of course) and usually visit 4 or 5 ports and snorkel at each one, I was just wondering if there were any day time things like name that tune, or game shows to watch, we don't play bingo and DH doesn't use the casino (I do enough for both of us:D) so thanks for the info.

I have to pay our deposit for this cruise tomorrow, I saw a half deposit promo but looks like with that particular promo deposit is non refundable if you have to cancel, other than that is it correct that deposit is refunded in full if cancel is outside of 76 days? I have not been on carnival for many moons, sorry for all the questions.

We have been to Bermuda 3 times on cruises and have always enjoyed ourselves. Love smaller ships.

Noticed that you like snorkeling. While the snorkeling is great, the water might still be cool, especially in early May ( it would be hit or miss ). If you don't mind possibly colder water ( not the Caribbean ), go for it.

Check out the Bermuda boards...great place to visit.

Have a great cruise

We cruised on the Victory in November. It was a great ship, but needed some updating. I believe it received those updates in March.

There is a great piano bar that does trivia and just alot of fun sing along entertainment.

We cruised to Bermuda a few years ago out of Baltimore. It is fantastic going to Bermuda for a few reasons:

There seems to be very little poverty there, at least it is not in your face and we did not encounter anyone hassling us to buy things or asking for money

It is absolutely gorgeous. It has a great transportation system with a combination of ferries and buses so you can get all over Bermuda very easily.

May would be a great time to go. The weather there is very similar to South Carolina. It is straight across the ocean from there.

Enjoy!

Thanks Nic6318, I didn't think there was snorkeling in Bermuda, I will have to read up on it, but thanks for the warning about cold water, we live very close to the beach, just a short 3 minute walk so other than for snorkeling the beach doesn't usually interest us, we will probably spend this vacation exploring the island which will be fun for a change. Thanks again:)

We were on the Victory a few years ago. It was a cruise that left from NY, up the coast to Boston, Maine, Canada, St. John's, Nova Scotia. I guess it was the ports, but I wasn't thrilled with the cruise. The ship was okay. I can't say it was bad, we had a great time. I recall music trivia, and other things for the sea days. Also, when we were on the Victory they showed movies/concerts out on deck.

Bermuda, on the other hand is my favorite island. I started taking land vacations there back in the early 80's, and followed up with many, many cruises. It's an easy place to see, and easy to get around from the pier with the ferry, bus or taxi. I would leave the motor bikes alone unless you are familiar with handling one. It's a beautiful and friendly place to visit. Great rum swizzles at the Swizzle Inn.

P.S. We sail on the Pride a lot, and always get an aft balcony, across from the laundry room. We never noticed anyone going back and forth. It was nice and quiet.

OMG I would love to do this cruise! I am retiring next year in June, but could push it up to May. :( But, just checked the price....no way I can afford that:(

Other option is a cruise out of San Juan...or just something else that I have not yet considered. Back to the drawing board for 2016 retirement cruise:)

Is 2922.00 high for an aft facing balcony, I know on NCL when we just get an aft balcony instead of a suite it only runs about 2200. but that is for 7 days, not 8, and I would think possibly Bermuda might charge a lot of port charges to stay 3 days:confused:

I guess it all depends on you and what is a good price for you. I travel solo, and cannot cruise often because of the added air fare that I need to factor in. What is expensive to me, is perfectly affordable to others, so it all depends on what you are comfortable paying. When I checked it out for me solo in an inside , the price came up to 1800.00. Out of the question for me.

Even if it was affordable for you it is a lot to spend for an inside just for one, I would definitely look for an alternative, hope you make it to Bermuda, maybe you can find someone to share a cabin with, I would hate to have to pay airfare also, so blessed to live in FL for the last 25 yrs so no need to fly.:)

Like I said earlier, the Splendor to Bermuda was practically sold out this past summer - and we don't cruise until late October. There haven't been any balcony or suites available for months (guessing there are some TAs out cabins available).

I paid $1,485 total (solo) for a 1A with portholes on Splendor. The price for an inside (solo) right now ES? $2,897 including taxes on Riviera!!

If you want to book, do it. It's just a deposit. I can almost guarantee that the prices will skyrocket. Don't book ES so you can cancel and get your deposit back. And I can almost guarantee that there won't be any price drops, so don't bother with the ES restrictions.

I sailed Victory in May 2009 when she was doing RT from San Juan. That was a port every day so about the only thing I did while on the ship was eat and sleep. But the ship really doesn't matter to me at all.

I use sea days to sit and read, too, although I usually have an inside cabin (as I now mostly sail solo). It's sometimes difficult to find anywhere even semi-quiet to sit, even on ships that have a Serenity Deck!

But I wouldn't worry about having things to do on the sea days. If you like to do ship activities, they'll have them. If you don't, use that time to read and relax.

To the other folks - yes, as noted, Bermuda sailings are expensive. Yes, they apparently charge a lot for ships to port there. No, they aren't interested in being overwhelmed by cruise visitors every day.

We booked a deck 7 midship balcony for a total of $2,092 on the Splendor to Bermuda when it first became available. It does not sail until late October and the balconies have been sold out for quite a while. The cheapest interior is now priced a couple hundred more pp than our balcony. I am not expecting any ES price drops on this cruise.

FWIW, I just looked for this sailing and it is not listed on the TA portal for Carnival. The Victory is still showing as doing 3 and 4 night Bahamas runs for the month of May 2016.

I DID get a communication last night that the Victory is going to San Juan in Oct or Nov 2016 and going to take over the So. Caribbean route, so I don't know if that announcement changed the Victory's other deployments.

I did find it, but HOLY COW!!!!! The cheapest all in price for an inside cabin is almost $900.00 per person. Too rich for my blood, especially since I'm going to Bermuda this October.
